Castleton

Re: Castleton

I heard castleton has 5 new guys coming in for the season anyone know the names? I also heard that one kid transferred out and one kid was hurt any information on this either?

Re: Castleton

Castleton green and white scrimmage this Friday anyone going to head over to spartan arena to check it out.

Hell yeah! Picking up my season pass while I'm at it! Guess that means I won't have to be one of those smucks who has to pay for tickets, especially for the Norwich/CSC game. Good thing I got two passes and you'll be coming with me bud!

were the passes free?

Re: Castleton

The passes were free because my family got ad space along the boards for their country store in town. Of course they don't go to the games so I get to reap the benefits of that one!

Re: Castleton

There was a very extensive article in the today's Times Argus/Retland Herald on the Castleton Spartans. The web site is protected so I can not attach a link. The article includes a quote by coach Alex Todd that a good regular season record is great but the playoffs and playoff qualification process is also very important. I take from the article that Castleton is attempting to improve its non league schedule to put them in a better position for the playoffs. Looking at there schedule Castleton has 2 games against Norwich and another and possible 2 against Plattsburgh (if they beat Utica which should be great game). Castleton returns 15 out of there top 16 scores so scoring shouldn't be a problem. Josh Harris and Justin Alonzo are both very productive players. Coach Todd talked about missing not playing the top teams of the NESCAC but said the lower half of the ECAC E is stronger than the lower half of the NESCAC teams.

I not sure how the ECAC E is going to play out since the only ECAC E team I have seen play is Norwich which played very competively against 2 D1 teams. Southern Maine/Castleton Saturday is a big early season game since both teams have very good programs. Babson, UMASS Boston, and Skidmore will be good too and it will be interesting to see how NEC's northern European roster of 14+ players do this year.

I think for Castleton, playing tougher competition like Plattsburgh and Utica is a step in the right direction. Middlebury/Bowdoin/Hamilton-CSC games were always good but I think for Castleton to really get the credibility, they needed to increase the level of competition they play on a regular basis. Last year Castleton was like Boise State in the fact that they trampled on everyone except for a tough loss at home to Norwich and one to Babson in the playoffs at the end of the season. I'm not saying they will do that again, but the opportunity is there for another big year.

Re: Castleton

Far as I know it isn't an injury. I can't honestly say what it is for sure but it's not injury related and he may be out for a few games. Looks like it was an off ice issue, maybe a team violation of some sort. Harris is from California so maybe he was caught playing roller hockey on his free time!

Re: Castleton

I was going to listen to game to see if they said anything about it but no coverage I guess? I tell you if roller hockey is what helped Harris score like he did last year , let him play! I notice most all of those California players really have alot of creativity with the puck and ghreat stick handling skills in DI and DIII.

Re: Castleton

Yeah I hear ya on that one! Weiland, Lazorko, and Barber have really stepped up this year. It's fun to see guys like Harris and Weiland(CA and FL respectively) show off some hot weather hockey skills. Their toughness has already been tested from years of trying not to go to the beach instead of staying at the hockey rink. But my favorite player is Cody Ayers aka Bowling Ball. He did lose some weight this year so he may be a 15 pounder instead of 16 but a bowling ball nonetheless. Most fun player to watch hands down!

Re: Castleton

Methinks you mean Weiland (5 points), Lazorko (7 points) and Bell (6 points). Great start for all three of these guys. Great start for the whole team.

I have followed this team for 5 years and I like the Ayers kid as well.I did not make the trip over to NEC but see he did not play, appears he will be the latest Senior casualty in a long list of Senior snubs by this coach. Willing to bet money he won't be in the lineup @ St Anselm as well.....saw him at the rink last week and know he is healthy so must be a personality conflict/\. According to Castletons own media guide Ayers is their 7 th alltime goal scorer & &th in GWG and that is with missing 21 games in the 3 years(almost a full season) looks like it is not because he is a penalty guy, only 6 penalties in 58 games! And this isnt because he won't hit someone as evidenced by the first 2 games of the year. I know the kid and he is a great student, hope he finds his way into the lineup.

I agree with you. I'm not saying he is the best player out there and with some new freshmen playing who have some serious speed it was almost inevitable that Ayers would find himself out of the lineup. College hockey is a lot about, what have you done for me lately. He shows he has some presence out there and is obviously fun to watch after seeing him play the last couple of seasons, but as these incoming kids get bigger, faster, and stronger there aren't many places to put a guy like Ayers on this team. It just shows you how this team has evolved over just the last two seasons.
