Castleton

Re: Castleton

im new to this and im just trying to find the thread i wrote in earlier and i cant seem to find it. just wondering what im doing that i cant find it? it was the other castleton thread called castleton spartans.

Well, since that was your first post, I can't see how you could have written an earlier one on this forum.

Unless you are also known as "1985" - there was this 2 post thread from Dec. 2010.

1985: It's good to see Castleton actually playing hockey as opposed to what we had to play in years past(those who were there know eh? Spartan 5) If we had been allowed to play hockey we may have had some good teams, but don't get too high on this cause it won't take long for ATodd to mess it up, there is a reason only 2 Seniors left out of 5 that started, 4 Jr.s left out of 8, and 6 Soph out of 11....it can't be all players fault! There are 12 non Freshman players that should be in the lineup every night but look to see some of them start sitting, enjoy it while you can but don't think it will last long

BUhockey24: Division 3 college hockey has an incredible amount of turnover and for very good reason. First, these kids are not on scholarship and have no obligation to play the game. Second, the hockey season overlaps 2 Holiday vacations, Thanksgiving and Christmas, and if your teams makes the NCAA's you may lose Spring Break as well. Also, given the fact that you are not on scholarship and there is almost no future in playing hockey once you are in D3, there is far less incentive to work out, bust your butt and make the line up. Many players who are boarder line dress list quit because it is not worth it to work so hard and not even play. This might be going on at Castleton, and I am not saying it has nothing to do with the Coach because that is a factor as well, but it happens across the country to DIII schools. I go to Conn College and there are many players here that have quit, very similar numbers to the ones you hae showed for Castleton but its all on an individual basis and you cannot say it is because of a coach. It usually factors around playing time, success of the team and that players personal situation either academically, socially, etc.

I doubt 1985 will resurface, based on their opinions earlier in the season, it looks like they don't really have a leg to stand on now.

Re: Castleton

I posted 3 times in the Castleton Spartans thread yesterday. Now its gone and it says i haven't posted anything beside in this thread. That's really weird to me that they would just delete it.

Re: Castleton

I not not sure about old threads but you got to be impressed by Castelton so far this year, now #4 in the USCHO poll just back of Norwich at #3. Since they added a little scoring to there blue collar style they have been very hard to beat. I just hope both Castleton and Norwich win there next 4 games to set up the battle of Vermont. Prez you better get in line for tickets soon . When is the last time the ECAC East has had 2 teams in the top 5 of the USCHO poll? NEC had some good teams a few years back but I don't think they got that high-looks like the ECAC East playoffs will be in Vermont again this year. Would like to see Castleton in the Primelink but probable won't get my wish.

Re: Castleton

I would love to see St. Mike's, Norwich, Middlebury, and Castleton put together a great Vermont tournament in the vein of the Beanpot. That would be a great holiday tournament, but since so many teams are already tied into traditional holiday tournaments, I doubt that would ever happen. :(

Jumbos,

Nice idea in theory. However, since three of the four teams are in the same league and starting next year, will already be playing each other twice a year, I don't think it will happen.

Couple that in with Middlebury and Norwich already playing in the PrimeLink and hosting their own holiday tournaments, probably not going to happen anytime soon.

Re: Castleton

Anyone else find it strange that Norwich is ranked above Castleton given that Castleton has a far superior record, hasn't had a loss on the road, beat Norwich in their own rink and has won both tournaments they have played in this year? Im thrilled they are ranked 4th but how in the world is Norwich ranked 3rd?

This has been the discussion since the poll was released.

Every Norwich fan will tell you there should be at least three teams that are currrently ranked below the Cadets that should be in front of them right now. There is no reason why Plattsburgh, Castleton, or Manhattanville should be lower than Norwich based on this year's results.

However, these polls are not only about what have you done for me lately, but also sometimes even more about the prestige of a program and with Norwich holding the defending national champions card, it's going to take a couple more losses most likely to drop them to where they probably should be right now in the 8-10 range.

A good comparision for Norwich will be the games they play this weekend against UMASS-Boston and Babson. Castleton defeated both by scores of Castleton 5 USMSS Boston 3, and Castleton 6 Babson 1 last weekend. Very impressive results. Castleton has sort of an easy weekend with games against Southern Maine and UNE, although Southern Maine is a talented team no one can figure out.

Actually Hawk, Castleton played Hamilton and Amherst(both wins by the spartans) and will play Tufts on Friday and Conn. College on Sat. The tough spots for Castleton ahead will be Norwich at home, Williams and Middlebury. But they still have to get by Conn. College this weekend which came off a big win vs. Bowdoin last weekend. Should be a tough weekend for both Castleton and Norwich.

Sorry I got the weekends mixed up. Everybody is beating Tufts but Conn College will be a tough game for Castleton. Looking at Castleton I noticed McNary and Cinotti GAA and save per centage are very good.

Re: Castleton

Hawk, USM has Amherst, Hamilton this weekend. Then, CSC, Skidmore. Couldn't agree more with your statement. USM is the team nobody can figure out this year.

Re: Castleton

These next two weekends will be telling, Castleton has a little easier of a schedule than Norwich leading up to there big game. If they both go undefeated then it will set up a huge game on the 11th. who ever wins that could be hosting the ECAC East tourney this year.

Re: Castleton

ITs good to hear from a player within the program, even those scorned, because sometimes the people on the outside do not understand what it is like on the inside. There is a reality that there is turnover in DIII. Some reasons were mentioned and one that still needs mentioning is that DIII has become so ultra competitive, that I feel coaches lose sight of the DIII philosophy in order to win. Sure, there are players that fail to meet expectations (things like off ice issues, weightroom, etc) but I have heard some guys who just get pushed aside because coaches bring in new blood. I know of a similiar situation to Castletons (I will not name names) where there was a lot of turnover, transfers, and also guys who quit but stayed at the school and it was LARGELY based on disagreements with the coaching style. The team put up marginally a few more wins so the people on the outside were commenting on how the program was moving along. Meanwhile, it was awful to hear what the players were going through. It is sad to see because they were sold a bill of goods about the program and then treated like dirt. There has to be a balance of power because on the flipside, you cannot have the guys go crying to the AD whenever they dont 'like' the coach to jeopardize his employment.

The person who posted the thread has the option/power to delete it by deleting the first post of the thread. Anything that was posted in the thread "did not happen" and gets removed from the data base - that's why your post count went down.

Re: Castleton

Ohhh ok cool thanks for letting me know what happened NUProf. Kinda weird that he did that but what ever, we now have this one up and running and getting some good discussions going in it.
