Re: Cars

Well ****. A 500-hp vehicle is going to spin it's tires on wet pavement no matter if it's a mustang or a porsche

Re: Cars

I suppose I could have put some Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ's on them. That might have helped grip the rain slick roads.

Re: Cars

Got a really weird electrical problem cropping up now in my car. The reverse lights have been coming on in my car, even if the thing is in park and shut off. My brother woke me up and pointed it out to me this morning, and today, while out running around town doing several errands, I would walk back to check to make sure the lights were off when I left the car, but **** if I didn't come back later to the car and they would be on again. I kind of wonder if it has something to do with the rear end accident and repair I got last year on it. Anybody ever even heard of something like this happening??

Re: Cars

Thanks for the replies. I'm leaning toward the AWD. The fuel economy isn't really an issue, as the AWD version only gets 1 MPG less than the 2WD version.

Re: Cars

The tread design, patterns and depth on typical Z speed rated tires as well as compounds used have a profound affect on traction, depending on road surface conditions. The rating isn't the point. The tire design to achieve the rating sure as hell does affect traction under conditions the tire wasn't designed for.

Tire compounds are a major component of the traction issue. Most (but not all) high-performance tires are built with compounds that are not meant for use under 40 degrees, turning them into expensive but useless blocks of rubber from late fall to early spring.

Precisely.

Re: Cars

Finally figured out what was causing my reverse lights to come on when the car was completely parked. Water has been getting into the car's fuse box and causing it to short in there. New fuse box is ordered, and hopefully they can figure out where the water was coming in from when they tear it all apart next week when they replace it.

Re: Cars

Looks like the test driver will be seeking a new line of employment.

Well that didn't take long.

It's been less than a month since Chevrolet revealed the 2014 Corvette Stingray, and already one has turned up wrecked. Since the new Corvette isn't on sale yet, chances are someone at General Motors will have a sizable expense report to fill out.

Caught by a poster at Digital Corvettes, the photo was supposedly snapped recently in Arizona, with the original shooter's commentary: "Cop had just arrived. Car is in worse shape than looks. Hit guardrail on left and bounced back to rocks." Automakers often run hot-weather and handling tests in Arizona, and this copy wears the Michigan manufacturer license plates that a GM-owned prototype would carry on public roads.

Re: Cars

What I see there is not really a prototype, but a late pre-production car. Noting the apparent lack of instrumentation, I would say the odds of it being either a test driver or a development engineer doing tests is quite small. On the other hand, an exec or a member of the media- that would be much more likely. Especially the media part.

You're probably right. The statement from the GM flack doesn't clarify who was behind the wheel.

UPDATE: According to Chevy spokesman Monte Doran, this was a GM test drive gone wrong: "During evaluation, the driver caught the inside tire caught the edge of the pavement during a tight corner, leading to the accident. Thankfully, no one was hurt, the car received only minor damage, and no citations were issued."

Re: Cars

They still have the mirror inside the mirror for the blind spot, so probably not.

I like the car. ~100 miles so far since Friday night. It's one hell of an adjustment, but it's a nice ride.

Just over 25 MPG according to the car so far. We'll see in after the first oil change. I expect 27-28 after it's broken in.

Re: Cars

Ugh. Sorry to hear that. I had one for a loaner while my car was getting fixed. I couldn't get beyond the blind spots. Otherwise it was a fine vehicle.

Re: Cars

I struck a deal with the dealer yesterday for a new truck. Haven't signed anything, because they have get the one I want shipped in. Picking it up next Saturday, since I'm traveling for work this week.

I decided on a 2013 Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn. The top of the line. Black, 390hp Hemi, crew cab, power sunroof, badass heated/cooled leather seats (front and rear), heated steering wheel, some crazy satellite, radio, nav, screen system that is pretty crazy awesome. The small details in this truck are incredible.
