Re: Cars

Nothing will beat THE design of the back of this Corvette:

I always wanted that split window coupe! Nothing compared to it. I think if they made it now-it would sell like hotcakes.

If Chevy did with the Corvette what Ford did with the Mustang, and released something that looked like a slightly updated Stingray but with modern tech under the hood, they'd have an extremely hard time keeping them in stock. Men would empty their childrens' college funds to get one.

Re: Cars

I was thinking the same thing. I kept looking at the *** end of it and thinking, "Man, that's a lot like a Camero." Not that it matters because it's still very Corvette.

Ironic that the Corvette is taking cues from the Camaro.

GM used to be anal about the Corvette being THE halo car of the brand. They would not allow anything to be released that could top it. Buick had to go easy on the Grand National/GNX after they discovered it put the weakass 80's Vettes to shame and GM got butthurt.

You got that right-I would sell my wife's jewelry for one of them. While driving my little VW bug with 40HP around in those days I creamed for that car.

From Car Talk's FB page:

New tail lights on the Corvette? At least Porshe drivers will have something different to look at.

I couldn't agree more. In my misspent teen years I was more of a Camaro fan than the 'stang (think Mark Donohue's Sunoco Trans-Am car). Now, it's the other way around. Ford and Chrysler designed the Mustang and Challenger to resemble the original pony cars, but the Camaro was designed to be Optimus Prime.

Re: Cars

I really, really disliked the 2005 update to the Mustang. I hated it. Hated, hated, hated, hated it. Then the 2013 model came out last year and it was completely different (yet still similar to the 2005 version). I loved it. It returned the aggressive yet "sexy" body lines to the car and almost integrated it with the 2003/2004 version of the car while winking at the muscle car era body as well. The 2014 took that a step further. If I didn't hate having a Mustang as my daily driver during the snow season, I would have opted for a new Mustang instead of an F-150 next January.

Agree. The '05 Stangs look cheap and plastic. The '13s are much better, and the GT500? 660 HP, 200 MPH, and 24 (!) MPG highway for $60K? I'd seriously consider one if not for winter.

Re: Cars

Shelby unveiled today at the Detroit show, an 850 HP super snake. Rear end looks really wide, also appeared to be a blown motor.
Edit. in other words, super charged vs turbo charged. used regular fuel too.

Re: Cars

So no comment about the Ford Atlas- the one released on 1/15/13, as opposed to 5 years ago?
I saw it late yesterday. My impression of it isn't much different. I thought that exterior looked much like the last concept, but the interior for the new one looks like it was designed for techies on a testosterone rush, not for the men who are going to actually use the truck.

I don't think you needed the edit. If someone doesn't know what you meant by "blown motor" they don't belong in the car thread. ;)

Re: Cars

Question for the experts here:

We're thinking about getting a 2013 Honda CR-V, which will primarily be my wife's vehicle. We haven't bought a car in 11 years, and we're having some sticker shock at the price of new cars these days. I'm looking for ways to trim costs.

My question is this. Is it worth the extra $1200 to get the AWD instead of the 2WD, in terms of improved handling and also potential resale value? We plan on keeping this car at least 10 years (scary to think about, as my now 5-year old will probably inherit this car when she's old enough to drive).

Jen and I do a lot of inclement weather driving. AWD in the snow and rain has been addictive for us. We just feel much more control having it. It does cut down a bit on gas mileage in many cars but we have found no downside to having it. It has been absolutely trouble free on all our Audi vehicles. I do not know if it something that holds its value if you are planning to resell the car-but for us that was not a consideration.
