Re: Cars

I struck a deal with the dealer yesterday for a new truck. Haven't signed anything, because they have get the one I want shipped in. Picking it up next Saturday, since I'm traveling for work this week.

I decided on a 2013 Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn. The top of the line. Black, 390hp Hemi, crew cab, power sunroof, badass heated/cooled leather seats (front and rear), heated steering wheel, some crazy satellite, radio, nav, screen system that is pretty crazy awesome. The small details in this truck are incredible.

Well played. Someday I'll spring for an F150 Raptor.

Re: Cars

2012 model. The mirrors within the mirror were what did it for me.

They've still got the "integrated spotter mirrors" on mine. That's another adjustment. The biggest blind spot is behind the driver's side passenger door. That and wide pillars in the front.

Re: Cars

true statement. But it still sounds like a cool truck. how long is the bed?
Its somewhere around 5 and a half feet. It has the extra long extended cab, and is the standard length (regular cab, 8 foot bed) Really a pretty useless bed, but I'll still be able to get the four wheeler in the back, which is what I care about.

So you went from a truck to a grocery getter, you must be getting old

You could always get that bed/gate extender bar for longer loads. It's far from ideal, but it's worth consideration for lumber and big item loads. Not so much for rocks and soils.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. At some point I decided I'd rather have heated leather seats than manual diesel. :p

If I need a truck to do real work I'll just swipe my old 3/4 ton diesel from my dad for the day.

Its a good excuse to have a new truck with the new truck smell. Plus, with the "working" truck you have an excuse not to load up a bunch of crap in your truck to get it all messed up. ;)

Re: Cars

Read an article on this 1937 mercedes in R and T.. while sitting in the doctors waiting room. Get this. Weight 1650 pounds.( my old Formula Ford weighed 1200), 600 HP. Think about that power to weight ratio. Straight 12 super charged.. Will get rubber at 125 mph, so be careful. Has a separate set of plugs just for warm up. Only 5 in the world. WOW.

Can't stand those. Wife had a Fiesta for a day as a rental, and those mirror in a mirror was annoying just as a passenger. Are blind spots still that bad when you adjust the mirrors to avoid blind spots?

Or is my Grand Prix mirrors just that awesome where I don't have any blind spots?

Speaking of, had my car looked at by a few mechanics back home. No issues with leaks, and they replaced the CAT and a few other exhaust issues. Now to just get it back down here, emissions tested, and plated again. Only six months after it was due. ;)

Re: Cars

For the members of the 1% in attendance, Lamborghini presents the Veneno for a paltry $4 million.

Actually, never mind. A total of three are being made, and they are all spoken for.

...I'll be in my bunk.
I wonder if Jay got one.

I enjoyed this review of the Aston Martin Vanquish by Jay. Pretty sweet touring car. Grand Touring in some style.

Beautiful! Jay's right - everyone should have the chance to drive a car like that at least once in their lifetime. I had mine with a 911 when I was about 22. WOW!

Makes me want to order a martini --- shaken, not stirred.

Re: Cars

McLaren counters with the P1, which will be a plug-in hybrid with 903 hp.

What's the point, other than the 1%ers can mollify the greenies.

The P1's batteries are mounted directly behind the passenger compartment and are charged by the motor while driving, or can be charged by plugging in the car when parked. McLaren says it can travel on electric power only for up to 12 miles at speeds of 30 mph.

Extra couple hundred HP/torque to the wheels on demand. The torque curve for electric is maximum at the low end, so they give an instant torque boost off the line. Can be recharged with excess engine power or a KERS (brake energy system) like in F1. Allows push to pass like in F1.

Only drawback is they're on the heavy side and can mess with weight balance, but the technology's rapidly improving.
