Can't think without a teleprompter.

Re: Can't think without a teleprompter.

No one is afraid of her, but as long as she continues to make public appearances she's opening herself up. You really think if Clinton went on FOX or MSNBC and did/said something stupid it would be ignored? Are people afraid of Al Gore or is he just a nincompoop that on occasion draws legitimate criticism?

If we really want to play stupid political games, conversely one could ask, "Why does criticism of her get some people so riled up?". And I find it ludicrous anyone would accuse rufus of being completely one-sided with you two running around.

Now to be clear I feel the, "writing on her hand" event is much ado about nothing but sadly this is the world in which we currently live.

Did I accuse any one of being one sided? Am I riled up? I made a comment about how it appears some folks are scared by a dumb bimbo( their words not mine). I never made a comment about the writing on her hand so who cares what you think about it?

Re: Can't think without a teleprompter.

This uproar is all pretty silly all around. People use notes and teleprompters, big deal. I'm not sure why she wouldn't invest some of her speaking fees on a box of index cards, though - notes written on your hand seem like a good way to lose your notes if you pick up a beverage with condensation on the outside, go to the bathroom and wash your hands, etc.

Re: Can't think without a teleprompter.

Winner. Great reference.

BTW, yet another point to Palin. Roofy's probably stamping his feet over this, too.

(it says "Hi, Mom!")

this must be satire

She's from Alaska, dontchaknow. They don't wash their hands after using the bathroom.

Well, it would be if there weren't multiple pictures of it from different angles. I only posted one since I'm loathe to take up the entire length of a post with photos.

But I guess you're right, it is satire, but it's satire from Palin herself.

Re: Can't think without a teleprompter.

Remember kids.

5 words worth of notes on a hand = entire speeches on a teleprompter in places where extemporaneous speeches are the norm

What places? And who determines 'the norm'?

Re: Can't think without a teleprompter.

Further, it's laughable to see rufus calling anyone "dumb as a post." Pot, meet kettle.

"Asked who attacked America on 9/11, she suggested several times that it was Saddam Hussein. Asked to identify the enemy that her son would be fighting in Iraq, she drew a blank. (Palin's horrified advisers provided her with scripted replies, which she memorized.) Later, on the plane, Palin said to her team, 'I wish I'd paid more attention to this stuff."

At least I know who attacked us on 9/11.

Re: Can't think without a teleprompter.

rufus, I'm really sorry that Sarah isn't returning your calls and love letters. It's just that, well, she's married already and is pretty busy.

Or.................... the palm of her hand.

Quick Red Cloud, name a president in the last thirty years who didn't use a teleprompter.

Heck, the last fifty years.

Oh, the stupid is thick with you people.

Put these threads back to back and it's pretty obvious how moronic this is. Not that we expect anything intelligent from rufus - but it is an early bid for Moronic TOTY, no?

Anyone have a picture of Rufus? I could start an "Idiots can't think without the DNC telling them what to say" thread sans the hypocrisy and outright sexism of this one. :)

She's a good looking woman who speaks her mind and her opinions aren't those of in the majority of Congress and the White House. See also Bachmann, Michelle. They need to be more lady-like and listen to men.

Re: Can't think without a teleprompter.

"Malvinas? Maldives? What's the difference? They don't speak "Austrian" anyway. Besides I'm president of all 57 states of the United States, what do I care?"

Re: Can't think without a teleprompter.

This. It is really silly what they want to focus on and it is even sillier how many people go along with it.
If people didn't focus on it "they" wouldn't do it.

All of what we hate in politics is a direct reflection of our own gullibility and ignorance as voters.

Re: Can't think without a teleprompter.

Come on, part of it was what was written on her hand, not just the fact that she had written notes. Have you ever seen a Democratic candidate for president scribble "oil companies bad" on his/her hand? Or a Republican scribble "God good, taxes bad?"

No apologies here. It was pretty d@mn funny.

Re: Can't think without a teleprompter.

As someone who worked with a teleprompter is college when doing TV stuff, I think I can chime in on this debate.

Everyone uses a teleprompter. I've seen them used in TV debates for congressional races. Anyone who complains that a certain candidate uses it, needs to check themselves.

The key is how a person comes off while using one. If you sound like you are reading one, then you are going to get skewered. The trick is to sound like you are making the remarks semi off the cuff. Everyone needs notes. People don't expect you to memorize a whole speech and say it without any errors.

Maybe we should rethink the whole need for speeches, though. If somebody wants to put prepared remarks on the record, let them publish it. Speechifying has always struck me as an anachronistic holdover from the days of a largely illiterate audience. I'd love to see people use public appearances for interactions with an audience, not just a game of which actor can look more poised reading his lines.

Then again, I suppose we're going to a future of illiterate audiences, so...

One would hope that a President could answer questions at a press conference without going all nucular without a teleprompter, however..... ;)
