Re: Campaign XXVI: The Drumpf World Order

The current Republican administration has no interest in not spending lots of money.

Yep. Now thatb the Repubs are back in charge, the deficit is no longer an issue. Deficits only matter when democrats are in charge, and are used as the excuse for why we can't have nice things, like updated power grids, nice roads, and bridges that don't collapse in the middle of rush hour.

100% correct.

Re: Campaign XXVI: The Drumpf World Order

No. It's all of the above. Those things are included.

Correct. All it took was one of those factors (including Comey) going her way and she wins.

I found interesting the latest claims that Hillary and Obama are the one's to stop Dems from protesting. Wasn't Trump the guy that was elected? So do your part Donald and give some policy concessions...then maybe Hillary have reason to help.

Trump has no interest in stopping the protests. The protests feed his ability to govern how he wants.

Re: Campaign XXVI: The Drumpf World Order

It was a fair primary. She beat Bernie. It sucks but it is true. Yes some were trying to force it, but they didnt need to he didnt have the votes.

how come we read that tD dumbed down the electorate to discourage people from voting, but the yuge super-delegate lead didn't do the same for the berns? :)

Re: Campaign XXVI: The Drumpf World Order

Saul Alinsky is one of the rightwing press' favorite boogeymen. I suggest instead that the left read up on Gene Sharp.

If and when we face government actions that we need to oppose (mass deportations, erosion of civil rights and liberties, environmental devastation, the new Jim Crow), we have two great allies: the basic human decency of most people and our American democratic institutions. Appeal to the former and scrupulously cherish the latter.

Even the worst tyranny in the US has a time limit. We don't need to, indeed we should not ever aspire to, overthrow the tyrant. Our watchword should always be "slooooooooooow it down." Grit in the gears and red tape are our friends. Our job is to limit the damage that is done until people come back to their senses (or, more likely, until the fickle public turns the arrow of blame back to the other side).

Comply readily when the policy is anodyne. When it is acidic, call in sick that day, order an impact study, file a lawsuit, get to it tomorrow.
Last week I made a point to my wife, who is mortified/horrified/fearful that Donald Trump has been elected.

My point is this.

We've done some horrible s h ! t in this country in our 240 years of existence, and even in the years before we actually formed the government under which we now operate.

We burned people at the stake because we thought they were witches. We shipped in a bunch of people from another continent, made them do our work and kept them chained up so they wouldn't run away. We nearly eradicated a race of people who lived on the land before we got here, and those we didn't kill off we just rounded up and kept them on reservations. We used to round up all the mentally handicapped people, put them in institutions and perform experiments on them with chemicals, etc... We had people who would hang other people of a different skin color and take pictures of the group like it was some sort of picnic. And this is just a tiny fraction of the horrible things we've done here.

Is it something of which to be proud? Of course not. Did the country survive, and actually improve itself in some small measure because of these things? I think so.

Does anyone really think we're going to do things in the next four years that will be as bad as or worse than these things we've already done? I don't.

The Republic will survive, and no matter how bad anyone thinks Trump will be, I think it will lead to a measure of improvement of us as a whole.

Trump is President-elect. He has no civil authority. (And questionable moral authority.)

As far as "policy concessions" - balderdash. I don't recall Mr. Obama doing that in 2008 when the frighty-righties had their knickers in a twist, nor do I recall Bush 43 doing it when "the end had come" in 2000.

Wow and what's Chili's response? They take away this veterans food and kick him out the restaurant on veterans day...and their response is 'our goal is to make every guest feel special...unfortunately we fell short'. I'll say your falling short.

That is great...how about you ask a minority what they think. It is easy for us to say "we will survive this" we arent the ones that are going to suffer.

(you wont like the answer if you do BTW trust me)

We have the privilege of not having to worry because we arent the undesirables. Although Bannon hates Jews so maybe just you...

Yep. First thing after Trump was elected I said thank God I'm a white male.

Well, then don't come whining that Hillary won't shut down protests for you. Man up.

My point was that the DNC didn't support giving the primary voters a real choice by fielding a diverse group of options. It was Clinton or just barely a Democrat Sanders. Don't suppress people entering the primary and actually let the voters make a choice.
