Campaign XXVI: The Drumpf World Order

Re: Campaign XXVI: The Drumpf World Order

When half the country is doing everything they can to make this effort fail, it's not surprising that it did.

Next time we have health care reform, it will be for the public option, and the losers will be the heath insurers, drug developers, and health care providers. Because that's what will come eventually unless the Republicans in congress pull a magic rabbit out of their ***, particularly if they manage to blow up Medicare.

Of course it will be 25 years before any politician is willing to take the risk of touching health insurance reform.

Maybe...if Warren and Bernie are able to take the Dems Left (instead of Clintonista Center) They would go after it...especially if the GOP is able to blow everything up and screw up Medicare. (which they will) If the GOP goes pragmatic and does what Donald is saying then yeah it will sputter along for a while.

Taking the long view...as long as we can keep the youth engaged (you know all those HSers walking out of class over Donald) then the chances are good that things can reverse in 4 years. Despite Scooby's gloom and doom the truth is it wasnt some Red Wave that happened, it was people staying home. The Dems need to embrace the youth that supports them and go Left. If there is ever a chance that a true Progressive Candidate can win it will be if things go as we all assume they will under 4 years of The Donald. Someone like Bernie...only an actual member of the party.

Maher had probably his most honest, diverse and self-reflecting Real Time of the season and now goes on a 2-month break. Friedman was awesome.

Agreed. I think he also was a bit happy to have to stop pretending to really like Hillary. He is a lot like me and doesnt like the way the Clintons control the Dems and how they court Wall Street and the middle to the detriment of the Left. He also realizes that it isnt over it is time to just rebuild.

The Red Neck Liberal guy had a lot of interesting things to say as well that I think the Dems need to take to heart. Some of the panel didnt like it but he is right.

As you said Friedman was great as were Axelrod and Holder.

Watching the protest that was in LA today...thousands of people walking down Wilshire Blvd holding signs and chanting, not causing any problems. It was pretty awesome to see. The feed I watched suggested it might have been close to 10k people!

I'd snark about George Soros' deep pockets, if RT wasn't already "reporting" that Soros is the one funding the protests. The exact same playbook the Kremlin used in the Ukraine.

Trump will get to settle a score against someone who is actually rich, and have a way to justify whatever means he uses to put down those protests.

Same here in Miami. Although what I don't like about is they closed a major thoroughfare and a few idiots starting vandalizing cars and storefronts. Then, while the marchers were walking, some skinheads in a condo thre a beer bottle at the protestors, striking an 11 year old girl in the leg.

Re: Campaign XXVI: The Drumpf World Order

Someday, Kelly Conway will be an interesting interview, though it will probably come in a book of her own. She's a pollster herself and has lived by them. Was she herself shocked by this?

When things die down a bit I wonder if she'll be given a bit more credit as the "first female" campaign manager to win the presidency for her candidate.

Two things: She was highly criticized here and by all the pundits for saying she thought they'd win in part because Hillary never hit 50%. I saw a breakdown someplace from some numbers guy who pointed out in retrospect that pollsters could have predicted the outcome closer by noting that when something bad came out about Trump he would sink from around 42% down to 38% or so, BUT, Clinton was around 45% and never went up when he went down. Should have perhaps known she had a low ceiling and was vulnerable. Which is what Kellyanne was getting at.

The other thing was, and I'm making an assumption here since she was a pollster and one would think had a lot to do with making these calls, everyone had Clinton up 5-10 points in MN, WI, MI, and PA, yet in the last two weeks team Trump went to those states and pounded them repeatedly. Again the pundits thought they were crazily wasting their time, but somebody (KC?) at Trump HQ saw a completely different picture. Clinton never went to WI and only hit MI and PA at the very end after it was too late. It may turn out in the end that little Kellyanne, the World Champion blueberry packer from Camden, was the smartest one in both rooms.

Conway was well respected coming in and everybody wondered why she would attach herself to this garbage fire. The CW was no risk, big reward: if he got destroyed well what did you expect, but if she made it respectable then Conway would get credit for somehow normalizing a blustering brainless con man.

In winning, her credit right now is basically unlimited: she made a silk purse from sow's ear. (Of course if the worst happens she'll go down with the public as Leni Reifenstahl, but she can still write her ticket in the industry.)

Anyone else feel like Trump's potential cabinet is similar to the scene in Slap Shot at the end where the "adjusted" Bulldogs line up is being announced?

Or, it is a disinformation campaign designed to get the media and Dems in a tizzy over Sarah Palin et al and they won't be able to investigate/vet the real nominees before the announcements.

Ogie Oglethrope would make a better Secretary of State than Newt Gingrich.
