And pragmatic doesn't mean saying "No" every time.

Conservatives have have a fetish of meanness. They started with the entirely true statement that it is right to deny a lunatic a gun. They put on that conceit of "I'm doing the right thing even if it's unpopular. YOU NEED ME ON THAT WALL!!!!" and then went on to self-justify that it is "right" to deny a starving man bread.

And so today they smugly spread their bile everywhere, thinking they're heroes. They passed "tough but fair" 25 years ago and now are simply reflexive animals, slathering up the praise of their billionaire masters. "Whooooo's a good supply side dog? Youuuuuuuuu are, that's who!!!"

It's never been about being "right" to "deny a starving man bread," it's about who should take on that role of feeding the man. If you hold, as I do, that government should have a very limited role in this world, one that protects liberty and property rights - protecting us from foreign threats (military) and the man down the street (police) - along with a few public goods, then it is up to us to act as individuals with charity in our hearts to help that starving man without requiring the federal government to decide how much, when or the method of that charity. Unfortunately, there are also those in the world who are simply selfish a-holes that tarnish the rest of us.

Mitt decides to sit out 2016.

Re: Campaign 2016 - Run-HRC? Honest Injun? Gott Mitt Himmel? RyanRubioCruzCrud?

I think it was just yesterday I heard Mitt's two-time campaign manager (at least in IA) switched allegiance to Jeb. I sense a forthcoming big money coalescence.

They have an interesting choice. Do they lock out the loonies early, risking that in a small field the herps don't split their votes and all pile in behind one of Huckabee or Santorum, or do they leave the field open so the nutbars cannibalize each other but then have their "insurmountable" establishment candidate putting up 15s and 20s to lead the GOP primaries all while Sister Mary Elephant is rockin the house with 75s and 80s on the Dem side?

Romney's out. I'm switching to Walker now. Walker is a Romney clone with actual screw the 47% street cred so he's perfect for the GOP.

Of course, Mitt was the best GOP candidate last time. This time its Jeb...the guy is no dummy. Jeb's going to be hard to beat.

If Jeb gets the nomination it means that the GOP has again nominated someone who does not reflect their true values.

If Jeb asks Walker to take the VP slot it'll nearly complete Walker's career parallel to Calvin Coolidge

Cut my taxes, screw the poor, praise Jesus and bomb Iran.

That's pretty true to their values.

Wait, Mitt is legitimately out?

Pretty likely scenario (not sure of the Coolidge part).

Walker from a trait standpoint is not a bad fit. Younger, vibrant, about as charismatic as the GOP can do, numbers guy, Midwesterner (very important), possible long term future. It doesn't bring him a foreign policy veteran though.

This was brought up to me years ago when Walker was facing likely recall. Someone said that when Coolidge busted the unions in Boston he was the most vilified politician in the land. A few years later he was elected VP and brought his "power to the people", small government message to Washington. It worked out well for him. This person predicted long ago, when I figured Walker's career was all but over, that he would find success nationally. We shall see.

Which points out a current weakness of the Dems right now - the dearth of Midwest Dem Governors.

The coasts are perceived as too liberal, the South as too conservative. The Midwest has been perceived as the great middle. So who's available?

Is there even a political midwest anymore? As a region, it seems to be splitting up and gravitating towards either the rust belt, the south, or the west.

Sorry...misspoke myself. Ryan is not a bad option. Walker is a bad option.
