Here we go. Someone (Kepler?) will do his analysis of the candidates and others will wonder what the heck happened to their candidate. And others, my dear, will not give a ****.

From the SCOTUS thread:

Whoever the Dems nominate *cough* Clinton *cough* *cough* will outraise and outspend the nominee of the supposed "party of the rich." Sure, Republicans will have the business/corporations/etc, but they'll still get outspent overall.

I can easily imagine Hillary blowing the Sheldon Adelson AIPAC crowd. If by some miracle of sense and decency Paul won the GOP nomination, Hillary would outraise and outspend him 3:1. She'd have: the standard Dem donors plus the hawks plus the corporatists plus the smart money that always backs the leader. Jesus, make that 4:1.

Well, you know what they say: if you can't drink their whiskey, sleep with their women, take their money, and still vote against them, you don't belong in politics. Guess we'll find out.

I'm not in the dude's fan club, but I believe its Red Cloud who does an excellent write-up of the potential candidates.

If the elephants ran a ticket of Bobby Jindhal and Nikki Haley, what message would that send about immigration??

won't happen (Haley is now out of favor), but still....

As in someone getting a real job or just to ensure more things for the moderator to read?

A Republican hard at work crafting their 2016 slogan.

Style points for dropping the "Democrats have to turn this into a race issue" in the same breath. That's some cojones there.

From Michigan:

John Conyers (D-Detroit) is projected to win big over local minister/pulpit pimp Horace Sheffield in tonight's primary. The winner is a lead-pipe lock to win the general election in November. This will be Conyers' 26th term. Conyers is 85, and really doesn't have it together anymore. Still probably a better candidate than Sheffield, who has been nothing but a ****-stirrer in Detroit.

Debbie Dingell is projected to win the 12th District primary, in the district her husband, John Dingell. Mr. Dingell is retiring from the seat he had held since 1955 (29 terms), when he succeeded his father, who had held the seat since 1933. Pretty close to a lock to win in November as well.

Republican House Rep Kerry Bentivolio has lost his primary to Birmingham attorney David Trott.

Now THIS is what I call a victory speech!

"I want to say to lobbyist Pete Hoekstra, you're a disgrace. I'm glad we could hand you one more loss before you fade into total obscurity and irrelevance."

-- Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI), quoted by WOOD-TV, in an unusually harsh primary victory speech

Wow. I'm pretty sure that wasn't in his staffer's draft. ;)

I hate this stuff, no matter who does it. It's so unbelievably cynical. Just make every office off-limits to all relatives by blood or marriage of a prior holder, like certain Roman offices were.

I don't blame him after reading the back story:

“To Brian Ellis, you owe my family and this community an apology for your disgusting, despicable smear campaign,” Amash said on Tuesday after winning the GOP primary. “You had the audacity to try to call me today, after running a campaign that was called the nastiest in the country.”

Amash claimed a victory on Tuesday night against Ellis, taking 57.4 percent of the votes, compared to Ellis’ 42.6 percent. The results came after campaign ads, such as one that called Amash “Al Qaeda’s best friend in Congress,” drew national attention.

“I’m an Arab-American, and he has the audacity to say I’m Al Qaeda’s best friend in Congress. That’s pretty disgusting,” Amash said in a post-speech interview with Fox 17.
