Why? Other than the guilt-by-association of being a member of a Congress, you're hard pressed to find much negative about Dingell's career. It would have been a shame to lose him on some silly technicality. Maybe his wife will be a disaster, but I doubt it will be because of who she married.
Now if John Conyers' wife took his Senate seat....well, I'd pay to watch that.

It's not like there's a shortage of people who would make good representatives. No matter how good a pol might be, it would hardly be "a shame to lose him." And the bad effects of nepotism far outweigh any good that can come from the continuity.
Anything that actively chops at the roots of aristocracy is a good thing.

She's a Fisher (GM money). So, local yokel Michigan money, but all her money could still only get her into Georgetown, after which she started working for GM. She had the right breeding and boobs so they put her on the Hill, where she did her own interesting kind of lobbying... they met when he was 51 and she was 23, right after he divorced his first wife of 20 years. Must have been a touching courtship.

Example #2,347 why the GOP is now considered to be out of touch. They've become self-entitled when it comes to the government, they no longer need reasons other than, "just cuz" to oppose the Dems and as this guy demonstrates have zero desire to reach across the aisle. Really, that's your platform?

I just get the feeling that this guy doesn't give two shuts about the state. He's just in it for whatever the next step is. Franken, OTOH, knows he's pretty much peaked politically and isn't using the senate seat as a stepping stone.

I find it startling that after 6 years this is the best the GOP can come up with to run against Franken. And, I like Franken so I should be thrilled about it but I'm not thrilled I'm more appalled than anything.
