Campaign 2016 - People lie the most after a hunt, during a war or before an election

Re: Campaign 2016 - People lie the most after a hunt, during a war or before an elect

@dick_nixon: My God, you'd be surprised.

@AnnCoulter: How many f---ing Jews do these people think there are in the United States?

This is brilliant. :)

I do not get what anybody ever saw in Rubio. In the first debate he seemed like a pre-programmed machine; in the second he seemed like a pre-programmed machine running the "posturing fink" subroutine. The guy makes Christie look authentic and Walker look like a deep thinker.

Re: Campaign 2016 - People lie the most after a hunt, during a war or before an elect

Actually watched a bit of this one, and although half the people up there looked like corpses (for their sake I hope it was just the lighting) here's what I gleaned from it from left to right IIRC.

Paul - best answers of the night. Nailed it on the Iraq War being a mistake and that while we can arm the Kurds and provide air cover, the people there need to fight their own war. Well said Doc. He also nailed both Bush and Christie on medical weed, particularly calling out Fatso as being a hypocrite bragging about legalizing medical marijuana but saying he'd enforce federal laws, which hold that to be illegal. For this he will be ignored by the lamestream media and sink even further. ;)

Huckleberry - I guess he's stopped that eating healthy campaign because he's a big as a house. Clear spoken and able to make his points in the time alloted to him. Still finding God everywhere, even in budget spreadsheets, but that's his schtick and did his usual thing.

Rubio - I don't get why the media keeps pimping this guy? No depth, just reciting talking points, way out of his league. Love how he feels he doesn't need to show up in the Senate since he's running for President and not re-election to his seat. Does he plan on giving back his 175K salary as well? What an a-hole. Try doing that at your own job and see how long you last.

Walker - Crushed by Trump. Worst night of anybody not named "Bush". That sound you heard was Trump closing the lid on his coffin and hammering in the first nail. Should be playing for a VP nod at this point.

Cruz - Did little. Still doing the "Smartest Kid in Class" thing. Can afford to bide his time until next debate, by which time he will have caused a govt shutdown.

Carson - I'm starting to see his appeal. Strongest performance aside from Paul tonight. Low key manner makes him look like the adult in the room despite getting totally ignored by most pundidiots. Has some depth and authenticity about him even though he's nuts (no points off for that in this crowd). Has handled Trump the most effectively, joking with him instead of having a screaming match (the vaccine exchange was a great example). His humor also seems off the cuff and not pre-rehearsed ("he's an okay doctor" about Trump even had Trump laughing). Anti-Afghanistan war stance makes him only GOP candidate in last 3 cycles to do that, and although his intellectual approach to 9/11 was unworkable it did make people think.

Trump - Nobody touched him despite media's desperate attempt to promote flavor of the week Carly Fiorina's performance. Easily swatted aside charges even though lame CNN hosts made about every question about him. Hammered both Walker and Bush effectively.

Bush - Why is he even running anymore? I heard somebody on the radio saying he had a strong performance? Compared to who? Aside from Paul's correct observation that high school pot smoker Jebbers! was never in any danger of facing criminal penalties if caught due to his affluence while inner city kids get mandatory minimums for the same crime, also got nailed by Hugh Hewitt who asked him if he's his own man why are all his advisors GWB refugees? Idiotic response about how "well the last two GOP Presidents have been Bushes so where else can I find staffers". Ummm...its a big country Jeb. You don't need Wolfowitz and other Iraq war a ssclowns advising you. Yet another reason to not elect him. Stick a fork in him.

Fiorina - Aside from bombshell about her son dying of an overdose, which I had no idea about, there's no depth to the woman. Basically every point is Hillary is evil. Hell, Kep and Handy could have told us that. Should they have been on stage in high heels and a dress too (ewww). :D Saying "every women knows what Trump meant" being equated to "Ask not what your country can do for you" by media like this was some sort of revelation. Yes Carly, Trump thinks you have a dog face. We figured that out long ago.

Kasich - Bad performance. Regurgitated talking points continuously. Looked like he was suffering from the flu. I don't know what it is with these Establishment guys (Walker, Jebbers! Kasich) but they aren't getting it done in this format.

Christie - Fat loud slob. Needs to drop out and save some dignity. Trump called him out on Atlantic City correctly. Seems like a guy who does well when he's leading, but has no plan to play catch up if needed. Strong comment about not knowing if his wife was alive for 5 hours during 9/11, but maybe basing your candidacy on something that happened 14 years ago isn't enough.

Lastly, I was surprised about all the JFK references. Did they get confused as to what library they were in?

For me, Carson is low key to the point where I can't imagine him leading a boy scout troop, let alone the country.

Re: Campaign 2016 - People lie the most after a hunt, during a war or before an elect

I can stomach our political differences, but that is a brew too far.

Kepler and I are done, fermentedly.

Ew. Way too hoppy and bitter and (smacks lips upleasantly) just... gah!

Give me a doppelbock. Malt > hops.

(Now, admittedly, generally speaking I have the palate of a 9-year old.)

There are, however, different types of hops that give different tastes. I'm not a fan of the bitter hops at all. I'd much prefer a smooth taste, but it needs good flavor, so that weeds out the likes of Bud, Coors and Miller. At the same time, the IPA, which seems to be far too popular, is another style I can do without having ever again.

The only style I find truly offensive are sour beers. The people drinking those really do have to be pretending to enjoy them.

I keep forgetting that.

I was reading a Boston Herald commentator today who's in the tank for Trump but he had a great line about how Fiorina was declared the winner by the press before the debate even started! I'll be curious what post debate polls say but pundits have a remarkably poor record thus far of predicting who's won these contests.

I've never had a sour beer. It doesn't sound appetizing. Give me a good amber, if I have my druthers.

There are Belgian sours that almost make me understand the appeal of kimchi -- they're so horrible they kinda wrap around and become good. Or something transcending bad/good.

Spot on article re: Fiorina here>

Same thing tripped up Mittens and Paul Ryan. At some point when you debate the other side, they will call you out on completely made up stuff that the political press will not. These righties are killing themselves come general election time no matter who emerges.

It looks like the Republicans are going to get rid of Trump the same way Elaine got rid of Morty Seinfeld. Dude could barely make it to the finish line last night.

It worked for Reagan. Saint Iran-Contra would just make sh-t up on the fly, the media would call him on it, and he'd just give an avuncular chuckle and his dittoheads would all say "did you see how the Gipper wiped the floor with those Poindexters?!" There'a a sizeable chunk of the electorate who cares only about how you say something, not what the something is. That's why Cicero explained all the ways to sway the crowd. Sadly, elections are not won or lost on facts.

Maybe. But Seinfeld sucks.

There are no Reagans in this crowd. Their stage presence was atrocious. I agree with you that facts don't always matter, but to pull that off you have to have the affable communicative (is that a word?) style that Reagan perfected no doubt because he was an actor and broadcaster by trade. Carly Fiorina looks like Leona Helmseley. John Kasich looked like a zombie. Ted Cruz should be selling used cars.

Regarding the Elaine-Morty comparison, 3 hours is way, waaaayy too long for a debate. I don't think we'll be seeing anything like that again as even from an outsider perspective the format is horrible. Usually debates pretend that they're going to be informative. CNN set this up specifically to get people to scream at each other. What's up with Hugh Hewitt as co-moderator ("when you were on my show..." mentioned 20 times) ? Was Drudge too busy or something?

I'm also laughing about pundidiotry saying foreign policy is the way to take Trump down. His voters don't give a ***** about foreign policy. Nobody wants boots on the ground in the middle east again but you wouldn't know that listening to these clowns. Trump once again is speaking for the actual people in his party, not the consultants. Why again should be fight someone else's war for them? Didn't work out too well last time. He also nailed it on the vaccination-autism schpiel. A total lie, but one conservative voters believe 100%.

Dont' worry about Trump being around for the nomination. He's just going to wait until he thinks his value has peaked and then sell. He never planned to live in it.

This would be kind of a funny issue, if it didn't matter so much. It started with a bunch of California liberals doing yoga and gluten-free dieting with Jenny McCarthy or someone, then it spread to libertarians as a "don't tell me how to raise my kids" issue, then to anti-government evangelicals. Anti-vaxers might still mostly be liberals, but it's a home-schooling-like alliance of different brands of extremists.
But certainly not a "conservative voters" in general thing. More of a Trumpeter Rebellion thing.

Yup, every anti-vaxer I know is a liberal. while I'm hardly a large sample size, it's more of a lefty thing than a righty thing, which is surprising when you consider the Evangelicals tend to be the anti-science crowd.

There are plenty of homeschool conservative anti-vaxers; I work with them. They're the type of people who think communists were behind fluoridation. In fact I was really surprised when I first learned that there were also hippy-dippy Marin County liberal anti-vaxers, as from my initial exposure to it (see what I did there?) I just assumed it was more righty crank anti-science ignorance / hostility derp.

It's good to see that idiocy is bipartisan.
