I responded in kind. I apologize for my last post; it was far too mean-spirited and I respect your posts. Like my cats, sometimes when playing I get carried away. Please accept my apology.

In joe's defense, there have been a couple instances in which it has in fact happened.

"a couple" Bwaaa-haa-haa. A couple seconds on google will reveal a couple more than a couple...

So, moving on from the Kep-Handy slap fight, who's up for playing the GOP debate drinking game again! Since we all almost died of alcohol poisoning last time after a half hour, we need to simply things a bit. Yes, still drink at every lame Reagan reference, but also a sip for every Iran bad/protect Israel/empowering terrorists comment. Chug your entire drink if someone makes a Holocaust or Nazi comparison. Drink until you pass out if a candidate labels it a "travshamockery".

Lastly, 5 minute pause from drinking if anybody mentioned Sanders. ;)

Yeah, but that phenomenon is hardly limited to liberal college campuses, either. The right wing poutrage machine is notorious for shouting down dissenting voices.

I just looked for instances of speakers being shouted down and did not see any of those cited. Perhaps you can point me to them.

ETA: I just tried a search for such instances and the best I could find were references to Congress and FOX news hosts, no one I could find cited college examples. I'd appreciate it if you could point some out to me.

Now that's a fun, creative post. Bravo!

All you gotta do is sign up for my newsletter Bob and for $9.99 a month you can have Rover wit delivered to your doorstep. Also, unlike Ron Paul, I don't accept articles written by active Klan members. ;) (sorry for bringing that up again Kep...)

Can you list them? I'm interested.

That kind of behavior is self-defeating. Even when sure the speaker is wrong, if they are rational they deserve a fair hearing, if only to be better able to tear apart their arguments and inoculate casual listeners from falling into their snares.

There are, however, "speakers" who are not remotely interested in a rational dialog, and are just there to provoke or demagogue or self-promote. The Ted Cruz types of the world deserve, at best, a middle finger. Intellectual courtesy only extends to intellectual rigor. If your only purpose is to start a fight then the deal's off.

I was quite disappointed by the last debate's drinking score. My wife and I kept a scorecard and the major damage came from Reagan (of course -- any time you listen to a Republican caterwauling you'll get an ear full of Saint Ronny) and the "hard scrabble youth story" (momma raised us poor but honest -- we used to walk to and from school in bare feet in the snow uphill both ways). The latter is so prevalent we modifed the rule so you can only drink when somebody raised wealthy uses it. It's a hoot to hear millionaires play that card.

But the really stupid stuff -- vote for me or Iran will kill your children -- didn't happen last time. I still have confidence that this time we'll hear some first class posturing.

Here is one interesting compilation that goes beyond just the shouting down and includes the preemptive "disinvitations": https://www.thefire.org/disinvitation-season-report-2014/

FIRE is an organization that promotes freedom of speech on campus. You can do your own google search too if you'd like.

Somebody is going to "go there" in terms of Nazi comparisons. My money's on Huckleberry if he's still allowed to eat at the grown-up table with the rest of the so called top tier candidates.

There needs to be a special rule for THE WAR ON CHRISTIANS!!!11! This will be especially funny at the Reagan library, since Ron didn't give a hill of beans about the sky god and Nancy put more faith in the stars.

But the candidates other than Cruz have a problem with the obvious "Planned Parenthood is Buchenwald!" derp. On the one hand it's a fat hanging curve right in the zone. On the other, except for Cruz everybody knows a shutdown is going to be a repeat of last time when Republicans were less popular than lice (or, more worryingly, France).

Your link has an additional link to an actual list, that is fascinating. https://www.thefire.org/list-of-campus-disinvitations-2000-2014/

I think it's B.S. to disinvite a former President, if for no other reason than the disrespect it shows for the office. The same with John Roberts, who apparently appeared in spite of the efforts. It does appear that anywhere Bush didn't speak, he made the decision himself.

But then you look and ask yourself, who thought it was a good idea to invite Pat Boone or Bristol Palin in the first place?

How the Establishment/Corporate types handle the shutdown is going to be fascinating. This issue is in Trump's wheelhouse. Everybody is stupid and incompetent in DC and we need Trump to set them straight. Cruz' calculations are also simple. He's the guy who's going to blow everything up and cause the shutdown while he rails aginst Itch and The Impotent Boner as total sellouts. Should play well.

BUT, what do the Corporate guys do? Paymasters for Jebbers! Walker, Kasich, etc DO NOT want a shutdown. Yet, the base surely wants to fight over Planned Parenthood. Oddly enough, this would have been the perfect time for Cruz to shine were it not that he's being overshadowed by the unexpected Trump surge, which he's managed to maintain.

Last time they shut it down, something like 5% of the total federal budget was affected. But the PAIN of the shut down! Close the parks, & museums! No more tours of the Capitol or White House! Meanwhile DoD is running. The transfer payments are flowing. The lobbyists are still lobbying. And the furloughed employees will still get paid, albeit a bit late.

Snooze. Lots of noise and no real impact.

And PP is a stink, but their tame lapdogs in the media, White House and the Democratic party (can't cut off those campaign $$, can we!) have made it a non event.

Correct. So, make some real impact. Like Public Television and Planned Parenthood funding. Shut them down. Those will get the budget under control.

It's a non-event because they didn't actually break the law. Again, the PP videos are in the same vein as your standard PETA or ELF video taken at meat packing plants. They're designed to shock and raise money, not actually send anyone to jail.

It doesn't help when GOP members of Congress don't even attempt to be unbiased, either. Their hearings on the 'issue' make kangaroo courts look legit.

Well said, meaning you'll get lots of moaning.
