Campaign 2016 Part XXIV: Both candidates are the same, but here's why yours is awful

A resident is a resident. There's no longevity requirement.

Unless what I read was incorrect, they are not residents. Don't even have Maine drivers licenses. I certainly wouldn't have considered myself a MA resident when I was in college.

Either that's the truth or they realize the brand damage that will occur being associated with a loser like Trump. SAD!

Given Sniffles high level of veracity on literally every other issue in the campaign I'm sure going to give him the benefit of the doubt here.

I also doubt Belichick described anything as "tremendous." I think after the Patriots won the Super Bowl he said it didn't suck. :p

It doesn't matter what you think. The Supreme Court ruled that college students can choose to vote either where they attend school or in their home town. LePage's flyer falsely stated that the student needs to pay to register their vehicle and obtain a Maine drivers license within 30 days of voting in Maine or face a fine/prosecution for voter fraud. This is not true.

Already reports of suspicious activity at my local polling place, which happens to be my daughter's school. Police had to run off some people hanging around long after they voted.

My wife is keeping my daughter home today.

Well I cant imagine everyone in his lockerroom would be pleased ;)

LePage sent out flyers to Bates College students (only 15% are 'from Maine') with bogus information about residency requirements. UMaine students got emails with similar bogus info.

The Attorney General and Secretary of State came out and said it was purely political voter intimidation, that residency requirements for voting are different, for example, from residency requirements for in-state tuition at public universities and that out of state students at any college or university in Maine can register to vote here and establish residency for the purpose of voting and is not at risk for a fine and/or losing financial aid.

That's just plain wrong. He should be prosecuted for that.

If he sent out the exact voting requirements for in-state tuition but didn't clarify they are for tuition but not voting, he's a schmuck.

If he sent out the exact voting requirements for in-state tuition but claimed they were for voting, yeah, that's intimidation and dare I say some form of fraud.

I have XM POTUS 124 going at work when I get a chance to sit in my truck. Not sure why I'm subjecting myself to this nonsense during the day when I know nothing will be known until late tonight.

POTUS seems to be fairly balanced. Maybe a bit Dem leaning, but it seems better than the "networks."

POTUS is really good. My only objection is that Julie Mason runs her noon show as a way to swap inside jokes with her beltway friends from her days in the Dubya press pool, which sometimes can be teeth-gratingly precious. But they tend to talk mostly about facts and steer away from the shiny distractions that destroyed CNN

Steele and Unger (6 pm) is the best political show on radio.

So you're OK with a public official misdirecting people as long as he doesn't flat out lie?

"If he sent out the exact voting requirements for in-state tuition but didn't clarify they are for tuition but not voting, he's a schmuck."

Sin of omission at worst. He stated an incomplete fact that someone else (mis)interpreted. The voter holds some responsibility to know the rules. So, like I said, he's a schmuck.

"If he sent out the exact voting requirements for in-state tuition but claimed they were for voting, yeah, that's intimidation and dare I say some form of fraud."

Like I said, "claimed", lied, fraud. Crime.

the flyers at Bates College said that any out of state student that voted in Lewiston needed to pay to obtain a Maine drivers license and pay excise tax to register their car in Lewiston within 30 days. This is not true.

LePage also endorsed the message of the flyer by releasing a statement saying “Casting ballots in two different states is voter fraud, which is why Maine law requires anyone voting here to establish residency here... We welcome college students establishing residency in our great state, as long as they follow all laws that regulate voting, motor vehicles and taxes. We cannot tolerate voter fraud in our state.”

Clearly trying to intimidate college students by making them fear some kind of financial penalty or think they need to pay hundreds of dollars to register a vehicle.

Fair enough. But Brady has had an interesting history with Trump. Gizmodo Media likes to take shots at him over it.

I also doubt Belichick described anything as "tremendous." I think after the Patriots won the Super Bowl he said it didn't suck. :p

Or "beautiful"

This is what I heard last night. It was incredible. I can't remember the last time I thought that about a radio show on politics. Maybe one of the old AM1500 shows back in the day. When Jason Lewis wasn't a complete loonball or possibly Bob Davis. There were actually a few others I can't remember.

Can you cite the case? I'd be interested to read the court's decision. I don't remember students voting being an issue until the Lewiston mayor's race a year or two ago.

W.T.F. are you too lazy to google this yourself?

Symm v. United States. 1979

also, over 100 years of precedent in Maine:

Yeah, the FEC* may have a word with him. Or ten.

*Would it be the FEC? I have no idea.

In context:

More than one-third (36 percent) of 2016 voters said being a strong leader was the most important quality when picking a president

That tracks with the % of deplorables. "Strong leader" = phallus. White phallus. Cue truck commercial.
