Campaign 2016 Part XXIII: The Penultimate Thread

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXIII: The Penultimate Thread

There are 1000's of known criminal offenders running around free that investigators haven't been able to build a case against. Meyer Lansky was a notorious gangster for 60 years but they couldn't pin anything on him. Al Capone went up for tax evasion but not for murder, racketeering, extortion, etc. That situation is not at all an uncommon occurrence.

He filed a complaint with the DOJ not a suit. There's a considerable difference. So did our friends the Democratic Coalition Against Trump already on Friday.

You are correct I misspoke my bad. I was trying to say how bad it is when even Dubya's people are saying you are doing it wrong and screwed it up :(

Because she's good? James Trafickant (sp?) got away with stuff for YEARS (and mind you, he was the last politician I actually was a true fan of) before he got caught.

No one is this good at being a criminal. She has been in the public eye at the highest levels for 30 years and the GOP has spared no expense.

See notorious gangsters. Now, I'll make it clear that she is not allegedly committing crimes of that sort/level. She IS as crooked as every other politician. She's just better at getting away with it. And before you object, I've heard Hillary supporters even admit that she's doing "what every other politician does."

Doesn't make it any less criminal. I will not favor one side or the other when it comes to that. You break the law, you pay the price.

I'm not sure how much of "Dubya's people" he is, but he was an assistant white house counsel for two years. Regardless, the Bushes aren't voting for Trump as far as we know, are they?

But here's the real thing--> This guy is a freakin' Gopher Fan. How can we take anything he says seriously?!? :p

there weren't investigators looking at James Traficant for 30 years before he got caught.

This is true, cannot refute that.

Also says that he was that good at hiding things. ;)

Look, I think all politicians are crooked. It's a matter if they are caught. And the excuse of "well, so and so did it and didn't get busted" doesn't hold water with me. That's all.

Considering how incompetent everyone keeps claiming she is, do you really think that?

Especially considering how many times people have pointed out how bad she was at keeping secrets in e-mails.

We are pushing 30 years of constant investigation so far. Nothing.

If she's that brilliant, seems to be a good leader of some people- as they manage to keep really quiet. And lots of loyal people, too. Makes a good leader. Should make a good President.

Pablo Escobar also escaped the authorities for years, had extremely loyal people, and managed to get into politics. ;)

She is incompetent when it comes to emails, sure. When it comes to the political machine? She's friggin' brilliant. I say that quite honestly. She can work the system like few others.

All I get out of that is republicans must have the worst lawyers of all time, which don't make good law makers. In your opinion. :)

That is also true. Separate issues. Not defending the mess that is the GOP. Please don't make that mistake, that I believe all that is GOP. Tired of the "Hillary is a saint/Hillary is just a victim" of some conspiracy angle. She's as crooked as the rest of pols. She's just an expert at sliding to the side of the fit that hits the shan. ;)

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXIII: The Penultimate Thread

Harry Reid lit up James Comey pretty well with a publicly-released letter. Accused him of sitting on "explosive information" about Trump's ties to Russia, while rushing to push "innuendo" about Hillary, basically saying he committed a crime by violating the Hatch Act.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXIII: The Penultimate Thread

Comey is in some deep sh*, and from what I've read, he should be. I have no clue what the hell he was thinking, if all these reports are true about him ignoring the dept/etc.

Ironically both sides point to the same DOJ resistance to make their political case.

Another irony is that in 1992 Special Prosecutor Lawrence Walsh decided to indict former Reagan Sec. Defense Caspar Weinberger just days before the election. From the Oct. 31, 1992 NY Times:
Campaigning today in Racine, Wis., hours after the indictment was announced, Mr. Bush said, "There's nothing contradictory in there of what I've said." Judy Smith, a White House spokeswoman, suggested there may have been some political motive for Mr. Walsh to release the Weinberger notes today. But Mary J. Belcher, a spokeswoman for Mr. Walsh, denied that.

Mr. Walsh's relations with the Bush Administration have been frigid. Prosecutors could have used any of more than 1,700 pages of Mr. Weinberger's notes to show that he failed to comply with Congressional requests for his records relating to the Iran-contra affair. Mr. Walsh appeared to select one that was acutely embarrassing to the President.

The indictment was thrown out by a federal judge shortly after the election, but Bill did make considerable hay while it was hot before going on to victory.

Unless the investigation involves an offense that deems the candidate unworthy of office (legally speaking) it should be either kept out of the public eye or it should wait until after election. I dont care if it is Casper Weinberger or or Anthony Weiner's dick pick-apalooza here. The media doesnt have the patience or integrity to deal with the nuance of these situations and the average citizen is not engaged enough to look deeper into it. (IMHO obviously)

I have been moving so I have been less aware than usual...has Comey said anything at all?

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXIII: The Penultimate Thread

From what I've seen, Comey has remained silent. It's not good for him. You don't light up a potential bomb without answering. And that's exactly what he did.
