Campaign 2016 Part XXII: Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Politicians!

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXII: Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Politicians!

Remind me to never, ever get Matt Yglesias mad at me.

Clinton said she supports Roe v. Wade but also noted that “many states are putting very stringent regulations on women that block them from exercising that choice.” She referred to the difficulty of splitting up families that contain both US citizens and undocumented immigrants. She talked about the US intelligence community’s assessment of Russian involvement in the 2016 election. She talked about her job plan and her tax plan and about independent assessments of their impact. She offered a detailed discussion of the tactical situation surrounding Mosul.

It wasn’t earth-shattering stuff, exactly, and she didn’t have amazing zingers. But she knows what she’s talking about, she’s studied Trump’s policy plans and her own, and she’s prepared to discuss the whole range of issues under consideration. She’s a well-qualified candidate who showed up well-prepared for an important job interview.

Trump, by contrast, lacks any kind of conventional qualification for office. And rather than make up for it by showing that he has a surprising grasp of policy and public affairs given his lack of relevant background, he yet again delivered a clueless, rambling performance that was long on bluster and short on real information. Over the course of the series of presidential debates, he’s shown that he’s tall, he’s pretty good on television, and he carries himself with the distinctive confidence of a mediocre white man.

tl; dr:

I heard a little homie talking reckless in Vibe
That's quite a platform you chose, you should've kept it inside
It's so childish calling my name on the world stage
You need to act your age and not your girl's age

I'm simply saying I had Today on this morning for about an hour. To be fair I wasn't glued to it, but I never heard one single thing Clinton said. Or any other single thing Trump said in that time. Again I didn't see the debate, but is it the contention that that was the only thing said last night, or at least nothing else said merited mentioning in an hour of debate coverage? Anything else, if it exists, was ignored. That strikes me as odd, but perhaps it is indeed a terrific job of reporting.

If you're looking to the Today show for reporting, and additionally extrapolating it to all other sources you might be doing wrong. Your commentary is very Trumpesque though. "I heard something, I'm not sure where, but I'm pretty sure they're all saying it's true, I don't know maybe it's just me, but I don't think so".

Probably not the best time to have you national political director in charge of GOTV "take a step back" from the campaign...

http://www.politico.com/story/2016/...ical-director-steps-back-from-campaign-230120

I'm betting it has something to do with a story I heard on Steele and Unger tonight while sitting in traffic for 2 hours but I digress. Apparently it has started to sink in even on the Trump campaign now that he is going to lose bigly, so the GOP ops on the team have been asking him to start to push the downticket candidates especially where it's close, and the Trump people have said, direct quote, "they didn't step up for us so why would we do that?" Steele was calling into the show because he was sick or something and on the line when that story was surfaced by his GOP stand-in, and when he heard it he actually swore on air (and immediately apologized) which, if you are used to him, is like hearing Mother Theresa do "The Aristocrats!" Remember he's an ex-RNC Chair -- he knows just how insane and damaging that is.

Trump has split the party into almost perfect thirds -- his cult, the Establishment, the Thumpers -- all trying to scratch each other's eyes out.

I'm doing neither. I was in a place where the Today show was on for an hour or so this morning and reported what I saw.

I will say though that the 4th estate is supposed to be the watchers and the real check on all the power and corruption of our evil overlords. I do notice more than ever that they're just swimming in the same Country Club pool that the pols are. Who is watching the watchers?

And your analogy strikes me as a horrible one. Really bad. Horrible. It's a disaster as an analogy.

That's kinda like saying it's the first or second largest selling brand of adult diapers. I'm not sure anybody who actually has a job:

1. Gets a daily paper
2. Watches morning news
3. Watches nightly news on a network

Those are all safely into the Golden Girls category. It's an immense audience because of the graying of America, true, but those aren't exactly political activist dynamos anymore.

The way to reach working people now is:

Late night comedy TiVo-ed for the next morning (white collar)
Hate radio (blue collar)

Everything else is Jurassic Park.

CBS's morning show with Charlie Rose is actually ok. It's not a newspaper, but it actually has real news compared to the Today Show or Good Morning America.

Wrong.

The election ceased being competitive because the media found and reported corroborating evidence that one of the candidates was a sexual predator. But other than that, maybe you have a point.

This election is not over, but I wonder where we'd be if Cruz were on the ticket.

Well, thank you burd. I always appreciate constructive criticism.

I thought he was riffing a joke on your joke. Please tell me you were making fun of Trump with this:

And your analogy strikes me as a horrible one. Really bad. Horrible. It's a disaster as an analogy.

And you missed was ... Sad!

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXII: Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Politicians!

Trump got booed off the stage at the Al Smith dinner tonight in NYC.

Really?

Jesus.

Nah, it doesn't seem so. Here are the highlights. He said a couple dumb things that got booed, but the peasants didn't bring out the pitchforks.

Hillary was actually pretty funny.

de Blasio apparently did, however, get booed hardcore.

Don't fret. I do sincerely think burd is a wonderful human being. Which is saying a quite lot from me considering he's also a low down, no good, Nodak wagon jockey of the type that throws a hissy fit anytime someone spills a little water on them.

Or he's a bot. I've never been 100% sure.

In worse shape probably than they are now, but I think Republican Jesus could have made a race of it! Unfortunately nobody's seen him for several decades. ;)

I did get to see most of the debate, finally. I thought Trump's best play would have been if after the first 30 minutes he declared victory and walked off, only to be replaced by Cruz from the wings to go in and commit homicide the rest of the way. Can't stand Cruz but he is really exceptional at that sort of thing.

In a general I think Cruz would win the debates and lose the election by 10 points plus.

CBS is fantastic. Charlie, Gayle, and Norah are all great. Since they switched to real news I can't get enough.

It's as close as you can get to a large national newspaper ad you can get.
