I would have considered Kasich for sure if he made it that far.

Five guys that would have totally won the national election, according to some people in this thread, couldn't do that so...

Republican primaries full of teabag wackos, Christian fundies, and Donald's crew of deplorables are far different from the national electorate at large.

The Repub mainstream have sown the seeds of their own destruction by catering to these people, feeding them the red meat that fueled their craziness, and in doing so, have ceded the control of the party to them.

They are the party though. Ryan type Goopers are like 20% of the voters now. Trump-ites are 80%. We're going to see more of the same. The lamestream media may pine for a Kasich or Jebbers! but nobody else does, not least of which the Republicans themselves. What you see is what you get. That's Trump, who is the perfect representative of modern, mainstream conservatism, not the conservatism of the 50s or 70s or some other long ago time.

Creating FOX News and the avalanche of alt-right that followed it allows the base to stay in their safe space and believe that the nation is like them. It's usually not worth it to argue with your uncle that puts up "Hillary for Prison" memes on facebook and the half dozen emails with it., so they go on believing it.

I would've at least listened to Kasich's case, but I can't say I would've voted for him unless Hillary's emails or the Clinton Foundation blather truly had a "there" there.

Now that the "debates" are over, I don't think I can stand any more of Donald that doesn't involve Alec Baldwin mocking him.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXII: Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Politicians!

It's not pronounced "Jyna"?

I hadn't seen the SNL skits until just before the 3rd debate, but I'm so thankful I did. Donald was hilarious--as if he were trying to imitate Baldwin.

He has been so breathtakingly stupid throughout this campaign, it has to be an act. Sure, he has to appeal to some breathtakingly stupid constituents, but that can only explain a small part of it. The morning after, he's gonna be on TV saying, "Hahaha . . . you really thought I wanted that job?! I love Hillary! I'd do her if she dropped 50."

True. As I said, the mainstream Repubs thought they could use them, fed them all the dog whistle racist rhetoric and every wacko conspiracy theory they could handle over the last 20 years, and they created a Frankenstein's monster that finally broke free of its chains and escaped the lab, and is now freely roaming the countryside, causing havoc and devastation. And they don't have the numbers or the strength to capture the monster and put him back under their control.

They reap what they sowed.

Hillary has been my candidate since 2008. A centrist with strong foreig affairs and political leadership. It's only grown stronger on both accounts since 2008.

I looked at Kasich and like a lot of what he's about. But I just can't get beyond the whole women's rights record.

Well of course you wouldn't. You and Kep are socialists who dream of sweeping Bernie in with both houses, raising the top income tax rate back to 90%, forgiving ALL student debt, and making post-secondary education "free" for everyone who enrolls...and that's just the first 100 days. :)

I'd settle for bringing the top tax rate back to 50% - Kasich would never do that. That would address a fair number of budget crises. It's also not going to happen with Hillary though - she's going to have enough problems of her own.

I don't want to forgive all student debt. Just my wife's.

538's three models are now so close it's hardly worth distinguishing them. On each one of them, every one of the ten states identified at the start of the campaign as potential tipping points (PA, VA, NC, FL, OH, MI, WI, MN, CO, NV) is projected blue.

And the current tipping point is PA. Which is not good for Trump.

Trump announced that he would sue all his accusers after the election. By doing so, he now bolsters the credibility of any additional accusers who will now be coming forward despite the direct threat of legal action. Not the brightest man.

Jesus.

He also announced that in his first hundred days he'll term-limit Congress.

I must have missed that part of the Constitution.
