The thing is he may have only received the vote of ~6% of the total electorate, he represents the views of a pretty significant portion of the GOP. This world view that Trump represents has been actively cultivated by the GOP for years. Now they have lost control of it. I can't believe the number of women I've seen defending Trump. Their buy-in to the Obama and Hillary are the anti-christ and are destroying America narrative is so great they can excuse ANYTHING the GOP candidate does because no matter what there is no way it can be as bad as what Hillary has done or will do.

The GOP NEEDS to go down in flames. These nut jobs that have taken over the party need to be relegated to some fringe crazy party and a more moderate opposition party to the Democrats needs to replace it. Our future depends on it. ANYONE that votes GOP this election is complicit in our downfall.

Do you know who some of the loudest voices against Suffrage and the ERA were...women. Some women believe in the puritan model of family the subordination of women.

I've always wished I was the guy Chrissy wrote this song about.

Give me an example of his vindictiveness, or his capacity for retaliation. Something that goes beyond just calling someone fat, or a moron or some other verbal name-calling.

The guy is a blowhard. He wouldn't know how to retaliate against someone even if he grew the balls to do so.

Again, I'm not worried about tD, but his blowardness can easily push his supporters over the edge. Which it's the combination of him, his culture of personality, and his crazy supporters that is the scary combination.

His twitter rants should be a good indicator of his tiny ego.

But the point remains: Trump is striking the same key as Brexit, anti-Merkel, and Sarkozy, ... and Putin.

Putin? He's overt with his ethnic Russian positions.
The others, I do believe folks are more sincere about losing national identity.

Calling it "racism" (or any other form of bigotry) is a little too reductive. It isn't inaccurate, but it's reductive. The simpler answer is that it's a rise in Nationalism and Authoritarianism that's leading to a rejection of a lot of globalist policies and leaders.

Yes, there's a lot of "oh no, white people aren't as privileged, we must protect our place atop the food chain" going on there, there's no sense in denying it. It's where a lot of the anti-immigrant rhetoric comes from in all of those places (and here) that causes those results (and the success of the Alt-Right here).

But it's not like there aren't SOME elements of this rise in Nationalism and Authoritarianism (especially those which are directly tied to the struggle against terror groups like ISIS) that aren't at the very least relatable. Most of these leaders in globalism are the same ones that have the targets on their backs from terrorists. It's no wonder that there would be at least SOME sort of a "let's take care of ourselves here" reaction, regardless of how right or wrong that reaction is.

When the current leaders have opened the door and you believe* the boogeyman has crept in, the guy who promises to scare away the boogieman and slam the door shut wins.

It's called "tribalism", and it wins when people are spooked.
