LOL. Like Pence or any other Republican has a shot in 2020 or beyond. You know as well as anyone that Trump is going to be the excuse this time. They're going to claim that they nominated the wrong candidate, not that they're racist, misogynist, homophobic, xenophobes.

The numbers are good enough right now but they're shrinking whether Pence, Trump, Ryan, or Priebus think they are or not.

And the wolf in sheep's clothing bit that Pence played last night is not working as well as it did 16-36 years ago, sorry.

If Pence wants to get to the WH, he's going to have to wait in line for a ticket like everybody else (do they still do that? been awhile since I was there). Somebody will do the Trump next time just with a little less blatant insanity, like attacking Gold Star families for example. Know how many bored rich guys there are out there right now thinking, sh it! that could have been ME! Pence has less of a chance than Kasich does, who won exactly 1 state, his own, in the primaries.

Even the GOP acknowledged their demographic problems when Romney ran for office. Apparently knowing something and doing something about it are two different things for them. Explains Congress.

They're kinda stuck though. Like or not, 80% of their voters are either racists or willing to tolerate racism to achieve their goals (usually blind opposition to all things Dem). Blow them off and you don't have a party anymore. Yes they're dwindling in # but I've seen this before. Boston was governed for far longer than you'd think by those Good Will Hunting types in South Boston, who are the most conservative Dems in the Northeast this side of Pennsyltucky. The less of them there was, the more powerful they became because the were the only ones showing up to vote in the odd year elections the city has. Then one election they started dropping like flies because you can only hold back the tide for so long.

When you're right, you're right.

The GOP is going to change very quickly when it happens, because the party won't be permitted to die with the racists and phobes. The Republican Party has exactly one mission: it is the mechanism by which the rich hold on to their 12th homes even when everyone else is starving to death. The elite have always had ways of doing this, using the army, the church or the crown. In a democratic society you have to gin up creative ways of doing it, and the GOP is the center of that activity and has been since at least the 1920s.

That mission won't change, but they'll need some other lever. In the 50s it was the Red Scare, in the 80s it was racism, now it's the dying embers of braindead fundamentalism dragged through various social divides. But just like the prior methods became only marginally effective, the Church Lady crap has about had its day now, and they need something else. That something looks like radical nationalism and militarism bordering on, if not actually, fascism. That's convenient too because it means they can keep the sexist and racist messages for the trogs even though that won't be the lead anymore.

Trump is proving that a competent fascist messiah could lead the American right to power. With the wealthy already building towers and militarizing the police force to keep the riff raff down, it will be a mere bagatelle to convince themselves that they can control the hurricane.

You need to have a Congressmen or Senator get you a pass. (same with Congress) When I tried over 4th of July the wait list was 5 months :eek:
