Re: Campaign 2016 Part XVIII: I'm OK, You're Deplorable

The power plant shafts I think about are scheduled for 2045-ish retirement (after the aforementioned upgrades and similar and planned). But decisions have to be made today. You don't build power stations overnight.

I'm not saying shut down the EPA; I'm saying it has too much bureaucratic power, power that should be in the hands of Congress.

In the hands of Congress? So your solution is to take power away from an agency that actually has people that know what they are talking about (bureaucratic mess and all) and put it in the hands of people who need to be blackmailed by TV personalities just to get them to vote for free health care for the 9/11 first responders? You want to give more power to a group that thinks the existence of snow proves climate change isnt real instead of an organization that has educated people working for it?

You got to be kidding right? What kind of conservative thinker wants to hand MORE power to a Government they say cant run and has too much power?

And there's the rub. The oversight is gone.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XVIII: I'm OK, You're Deplorable

...money has to come in for it to go out.

Indeed. But allow that the corollary is "every time you say the government should < whatever >, open your wallet and throw in the first $1000; and don't worry, when it's not enough they'll come and take whatever more they need."

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XVIII: I'm OK, You're Deplorable

Congress only does politics now NOT POLICY. A point I made earlier while you were complaining about my brain. By the way, I agree. It would be WONDERFUL if Congress would do it's ****ing job. Unfortunately outside of a few lawmakers they're not bothering.

I bet they spent more money and more time on Benghazi then they did on EPA oversight and improvement. Hello? You see how ****ed up that is?

BINGO!

But you see no one cares about that. They hear the EPA gets $Xmillion in the same sentence as "Debt Crisis" and think one has something to do with the other. They never see the actual breakdown and see where the waste really comes from. But we can trust Congress to regulate companies where the environment is concerned because they all love science!! Well some do, the ones who dont believe the Earth is 6 thousand years old and God is 1 more Black President Away from opening the 7th seal

Keep Congress far away from anything having to do with Earth's Safety until such time as they cant be beat on a science test by the average 3rd grader on a Jeff Foxworthy show...

When's the EPA election?

*Yeah, yeah, Congress sucks but my Congressman keeps getting re-elected yadda-yadda-wonk-wonk.

Earth will be here long after us.
It keeps throwing out its version of "antibodies" like Ebola, Zika, mad cow, to try to rid itself of its virus called "humanity".

God help us all when Earth figures out what chicken soup is.

Yeah I would rather have that then the alternative...which always gets lost when that BS corollary comes out.

Here lets play a game:

One state believes in that ideal...it has cut taxes in hopes or increasing spending and revenue, and has done its best to really strip power from the central authority.
Its neighbor state did the opposite, basically reversed all the supply side economics and raised taxes.

One of the states is facing a severe budget crisis, the schools are going to crap (including the university system) businesses are dying/leaving and the government is broke.
The other state has a surplus. Borrowed money is being paid back, the dollar is strong, businesses are doing well and overall while things arent perfect they are certainly better than their neighbor. Happiness indexes have it quite high and standard of living is pretty good.

Match the states.

Is the government too big...yes. Does it run inefficiently...sure does! Is it better than the alternative (de-funding it in hopes things get back on track) YES YES A THOUSAND TIMES YES! I wont take any economic cuts plan seriously until the military is cut by about a third...until that happens leave the EPA, the NEA, NASA and Planned Parenthood alone.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XVIII: I'm OK, You're Deplorable

Honestly, part of it is because the EPA is perceived as out of touch bureaucrats living in Washington and not "upstate" America.

That has been a deliberate strategy by the PR arm of the big polluters. The great irony is America is about 75% urban. "Upstate America" is a minority special interest now. Yet our politicians always refer back to them as a Jefferson lodestone of truth and good sense.

I haven't seen any more truth or good sense originating out of rural America than out of urban America. Both seem to be intellectual and moral deserts.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XVIII: I'm OK, You're Deplorable

A good example was the Obama-Muslim thing. There was a poll showing an inordinate amount of people saying Obama was a Muslim, but the idea was that a lot of people answering in the affirmative didn't actually believe that, but they equated being Muslim as an insult so were happy to tag it to someone they disagreed with politically.

The best part about when Obama got elected was people would say "HE IS A MUSLIM!!!" and then "HE IS A RADICAL CAUSE HE GOES TO REVEREND WRIGHTS CHURCH!!1!!!" Now admittedly I am not up on my current Muslim beliefs but most of them dont spend a lot of time going to activist churches ;)

People believe what they are told, not what the facts tell them.

Today MN is plum and ND is struggling.

Just not that long ago (within a decade) the situation was reversed.

And it'll reverse again.

I wasnt talking about ND...the influx/leaving of oil money will screw with them for quite some time. I was talking about WI.

And MN is plum because they reversed the Dubya stylings of Tim Pawlenty. Dayton may be crazy but at least he funds the things he wants to implement. TPaw didnt which killed the local economy.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XVIII: I'm OK, You're Deplorable

Find someone else to run the mine? I'm not suggesting they be allowed to break the law. Mines are a burden on the environment. Closing one down to open another elsewhere seems ridiculous to me.

Inside or outside of the country?

Last I checked, our government's responsibility is to govern within our borders. So mines that are inside should not harm out citizens. The EPA does not have the power nor the mandate to regulate outside of our borders. If Canada wants to pollute their citizens, they can, and we can't stop them.

The EPA is concerned about the welfare of the US.

Same day.

Congress wrote every single law that the EPA enforces. Simple. If someone wants to change the interpretation of the laws, they challenge them in court- which also happens. They are overseen by the executive branch. They are looked over by every branch of our government.

Why is that so hard to understand?

Again, they were challenged to regulate CO2, so now they have to. They use models to demonstrate what happens with change, and rules are based on science.

Do you want to elect the Joint Chiefs of Staff?

The Pentagon and the EPA have the same goal- save American lives.

This ad has been running in our market since the weekend (we're close to PA). Simple, effective, and true.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XVIII: I'm OK, You're Deplorable

Uh, no. The EPA wrote the CPP. Congress never passed it. EPA enforces it under the power of law*,**. But how do we have law not passed by Congress?

Remember:
EPA is Executive, not Legislative, branch.
To Scoob's point, here is where Congress is delinquent on its check-and-balance oversight.

*Well, they would if Scalia and four others hadn't blocked it just days before Scalia went to the happy hunting grounds.
**Is that why EPA needs guns and SWAT teams? ;)
