Campaign 2016 Part XVII: If debates are great theater, I think this one closes early

I'm not up on my Drudge so I don't know what the third one is.

Calling folks "irredeemable", and that was from Meet the Press yesterday also.

The posit by the MtP folks: The religious folks that are undecided may struggle with that. (It came after "deplorable" in the speech.) Every major religion out there believes people are redeemable. Do they want to align with someone who believe there are people who are irredeemable. (Blame Chuck Todd.)

I think she had Vince Foster whacked.

Funny how Trump is still struggling in places like AZ and GA if Hillary is having such a tough time. I mean, I haven't seen MA or NY come into play recently, and that would be the equivalent.

That may well be because Phoenix and Atlanta are finally fully dominating their states, over the rural areas, similarly to how Boston and NYC make western MA and upstate NY "noise" in the balloting.

I wonder what those that are still undecided will think about being called deplorable and irredeemable.

This is the play the GOP needs to go with, but it's a falsehood. By definition, "Trump's supporters" (half of whom are in the basket) are not undecided.

Hillary made the shocking public admission of what we all know -- Trump has a huge number of supporters who are sexist, racist, homophobic, Islamophobic, etc. They have grievances and resentments. They'll love what Hillary said because they'll be able to climb up on their favorite cross again. They should thank her.

Brown shirts depend on others obeying the rules so they can use violence -- in rhetoric or in actual action -- as differentiation. Fascists capture democracies by depending on the republican virtues of their opponents tying their hands. Hence the squealing now of Trumpies and Tea Partiers. "You're not allowed to say outrageous things, ONLY WE ARE!"

This is the one big upside of the Clintons that Rover talked about during our nomination battles: they never bring a knife to a gunfight. The GOP ran over the Democrats for decades as the WWE Heel, enticing the ref away and then employing the breakaway chair or the foreign object or the salt in the eyes. The Democratic Face would stagger around the ring, wondering why taking the high road wasn't giving him the decision.

Bill and Hill fight bare knuckle. They learned that from you guys, which is probably why your side fears and loathes them more than anybody else.

There is a non-trivial portion of Trump supporters who are irredeemable. They are reactionaries who would be happy with a Putinesque strongman, and we had better vote them back to the Stone Age before they damage this country further.

You're admitting that after likable, the next thing folks vote for is to feel safe. (Some fools believe a dictator, even a pseudo-dictator, will make them safe.)

And Trump wins both categories. By a wide margin.

So all those Iron Rangers who voted for a black man for President, twice, are now racists?

If they are trying to ban people from coming here based on race or religion yes they are. Racism is not just against Blacks ya know.

Keep trying...

Who here has lost 13 different electronic devices?

Dr. Mrs. has lost at least that many devices, but it doesn't help Hillary's case any. MS (short term memory loss) is a b-tch.

Not "folks." "Some folks." Not everyone runs under their Mom's petticoat when times get tough, or we wouldn't have stayed a democracy as long as we have. There have always been just enough Americans who stood up for our values and institutions and muddled through actually facing problems rather than pulling the covers over their heads.

There is an authoritarian personality -- it doesn't afflict a majority but neither are its numbers trivial. In bad times it emerges from the far right as an electoral monster that has to be beaten back for us to retain a republican form of government. The temptation is always there to react to danger with violence and butchery, and there are always fascist voices that promise "law and order" in exchange for freedom and tolerance. Trump is nothing new -- he's just the latest snake oil salesman setting up his table and attracting a crowd of rubes.

You can tell the Cons are getting desperate...spending this much time analyzing video of an old lady falling is hilariously creepy :D

This is why I said it would be smart to get out in front of this...by this time tomorrow the tide will shift to people attacking those that are making this a big deal. (technically I started to see it last night) When Drumpf rips her she can just parry with his lies of clearing rubble at 9/11 whereas there is pictures of her being there.

BTW the FB meme that says "This is the the first time Republicans cared about the health of a woman" made me laugh :)

Hmm.

Donald Trump has a solution in mind for those who've been unhappy with debate moderators: get rid of them altogether.

I think he's betting she doesn't call his bluff.

She should.

But looking forward to the future, I like it, at least as one of the debates. Let them at each other with no moderator. Let them control the pace and the questions considered. Given that every word out of their mouths is programmed, at least we can judge by their demeanor something real about them.

Like I said, I like it.

Hell yeah she should...within 20 minutes she will have him admitting to loving Putin and also wanting to nuke all the commies!

I know it's nothing new, but I'm still amazed that those who oppose Clinton most vehemently (and Obama and Bill Clinton) always focus on alleged scandals, while supporters focus on policy and platform. This fits with, among other things, that study I believe Kep cited a while back which documented the correlation between amygdala activity (fear response) and conservative/liberal tendencies. The comments on this board seem to support the conclusion that conservatives are, more than liberals, motivated by fear response--to threat, to scandal, to change, and that is why stories like BENGHAZI!!!, EMAILS!!! and SHE'S GONNA DIE!!! receive all the play instead of a policy discussion. There are some good conservative posters here who would probably prefer a policy discussion, but that is not gonna get the job done for Trump.

Someone explain to me how we came to the conclusion that he won the forum?
