From Media Matters For America.

ERIC BOLLING (CO-HOST): Alright, K.G., so he says ISIS founder, she says ISIS recruiter. At the end of the — I mean, what’s the difference?

KIMBERLY GUILFOYLE (CO-HOST): Oh, well it’s just a double standard. And Newt points it out there, because this is specifically about what what word economy, like — Trump’s trying to do it in three, instead of ten. It’s the mind of the businessman, he’s always looking to, like — nail it down, get it done, say what he’s saying. He knows what he’s thinking, but it’s about now being very careful to choose your words to make sure that they don’t misconstrue it.

And what you’ve seen is a concerted effort, really — it’s like the most unholy partnership of all time between the Obama administration, Hillary Clinton, constantly making comments trying to bait Trump into saying something that will sidetrack him, and then the mainstream media refusing to cover the same things when Hillary says it — but it’s — which is very difficult to catch, given the fact that it was like, what, 240-plus days before she did a press conference to answer a question?

They’re protecting her to make sure that they’re safe, that they’re in a safe space for HRC, and then Trump is out there answering questions every day.

[…]

GREG GUTFELD (CO-HOST): You’re turning him into a spoiled child. He can rely on you guys to explain, isn’t it exhausting to explain?

Can we make up some more excuses for Trump? Who are these women that defend him? Especially after what he said about Megyn Kelly. That should have been disqualifying all by itself.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XVI: KICK THE BABY!

At what point does the GOP drop Trump or forever admit that party is more important than country? The level of known corruption among he and his top advisors is certainly capable of rivaling anything they can drum up on the Clintons. Is there anything that can be said to his supporters to convince them of his complete and total hypocrisy even if they agree with the underlying bigotry, enough so they realize a vote for him is not a vote for their needs or beliefs? Perhaps this column, penned by Yuval Rabin, son of the murdered Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin might do the trick. I doubt it, but it's worth reading anyway. Powerful sentiment and it makes me long for a time when words were the most important diplomatic weapon in our arsenal.

Trump has like an 70-80% approval rating amongst Republicans. Why on earth would the party drop him with those #'s? He represents current mainstream conservative thought, not tired old stiffs like Kasich. The sooner people realize that the better off they're going to be.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XVI: KICK THE BABY!

I always thought rover was just being an a-hole when he said that years ago about Republicans and their base.

I happen to agree with him now. The base has shifted. Maybe permanently. I used to consider myself to be a slightly right-of-center voter until around 2010-2012. I honestly believe that the GOP has shifted so far to the right that I'm now considered a liberal.

I can't see myself voting for a single republican this year. I just can't do it. The party has embraced a race-to-the-bottom stance on every imaginable policy. Science and education, religion, climate change, gun control, wealth inequality, racism, classism, equal rights, foreign policy, legislative progress. I could go on like this but instead I wanted to find a single policy in which they haven't embraced a RTTB.

I'll let you know what I come up with.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XVI: KICK THE BABY!

Thanks....I think?  ;)

I've seen the evolution myself. For some of my college friends, it was the Impeachment idiocy. That's when they realized nutjobs had hijacked the party. While I'd love to tell you a brilliant Democratic party has expanded its base due to stellar campaigning, that's not the case by a long shot. The GOP is ceding ground quicker than the cautious Dems can claim it as they appeal to a dwindling band of hardcore supporters. That leads people to the only viable alternative. Hence Dems winning the popular vote in what will be 6 out of 7 elections. For historical context, even Nixon-Reagan-Bush I or FDR-Truman couldn't pull that off. I think you'd have to go back to the Civil War (Lincoln-Grant-etc-etc).

To Trumpsters, anyone who doesn't endorse his every word is a raging liberal. These people are the scum of society, and the sooner they get spanked at the polls and crawl back into their holes, the better.

And that's the problem. They aren't going to go disappear. This unseasonal jackazz-o-lantern has normalized this behavior. They will be emboldened regardless of the result.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XVI: KICK THE BABY!

Sweet Jesus. Gawker should win a Pulitzer for just the headline on their Giuliani story:

Rudy Forgot

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XVI: KICK THE BABY!

Oh my god it gets worse:

In the same speech, Rudy told the Ohio crowd that they were about to be greeted by their own governor. They were expecting onetime Trump opponent John Kasich, and they got Trump running mate Mike Pence, who is in fact the governor of Indiana.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XVI: KICK THE BABY!

And remember...Giuliani is there to try and prevent Drumpf from making these types of gaffs :D

edit: The author of the Gawker piece is just destroying Drumpf on Twitter. When Drumpf talks about how Clinton and Obama should never have gone into Libya or supported the overthrow of Egypt the guy posts transcripts from Faux News of Drumpf supporting the moves! Also as he bashes the War in Iraq he posts evidence Drumpf supported going in and taking Saddam out. This is just amazing!!

Sometime in the 1990s I remember reading an article about how most Americans in a survey were unable to correctly identify the half-century during which the American civil war took place. They were given four choices. I don't remember which 4 they were, other than the second half of the 19th century being one of the choices. And more than half were unable to pick the 2nd half of the 19th century out as the correct answer.

As a nation we are getting collectively dumber and dumber with each passing generation, especially when it comes to things like history and civics. The fact is, 15 years ago is a long time and it would not surprise me at all if many of Trumps supporters, even the ones who were already old enough to know what was going on in 2001, could not pass a similar test. So they don't know things like who was president when...? or what year was it when...?

Maybe the GOP elites have simply recognized this. Just as maybe they have finally recognized how many bigots are among us. Because right now it looks like what is happening is no accident. The party elders have doubled down with a fascist and demagogue like Trump. He must be what the party wants, because if I'm wrong about their motives then they would put the country ahead of the party and do something to salvage what's left. The country needs a system where competing SERIOUS ideas are offered to the electorate. If there are any sane Republicans left out there, do your civic duty and make it your mission to get the party to behave in a patriotic was before it's too late. You may have to sacrifice this election but unless the cancer that sits atop your ticket -- and all the cancerous cells that make up his support as well -- is not exercised from the party's existence, you might not have elections to worry about in the future.
