Campaign 2016 Part XVI: KICK THE BABY!

And you know what? We are right. ;)

Nice to see Kep lumps "coders and engineers" along with the South as groups he's inherently bigoted against. Or is he admitting he, too, is part of just another "insulated, parochial tribe that ... came down the pike".

The beauty of it is that his words apply to himself just as much, if not moreso, than the "tribes" he amuses himself by taking umbrage with. Sure he's oblivious to it, but if we really want to talk about worldviews predicated on parochial tribalism...

He seems to be one of the countless number of Matt Welch / Reason Magazine "coders and engineers should decide all matters of public policy" people who have constructed a sealed, internally-consistent worldview in which they happen to be qualified to run the world. See also: every other insulated, parochial tribe that ever came down the pike. They mistake the salary they can command on the job market with the value of their economic and political opinions, which are dismally determined by their biographies.

Not to mention their social skills. ;)

I understand, Brent, but she got the LIAR tag long before the email stuff. It was a campaign and it stuck. Most people who consider her a liar do not have a specific proven lie they can produce to support the label.

She denied offing Vince Foster.....

So you'd get a Voltaire or a Bachelorette reference, but not Futurama? For shame.

I have totally missed the boat on Futurama, and for the worst reason --- I hated the pilot. Whenever I've caught a stray episode since I've loved it. I always intend to buy the whole show and watch it in order, and never do because ti would cut into important stuff like my post count.

And Buddy the Chocolate Lab! Why have they never found the car.....

The irony in all this is a 25 year campaign against the Clintons is going to result in at least 3 terms in the White House! Look, if I'm spending hundreds of millions of dollars on a smear campaign, I need a little more out of it than "oh her unfavorable are high". Somebody needs to tell the knuckleraggers that they're doing it wrong. :D :D :D

It's great social satire, even better than The Simpsons at times.

The five episodes you need to watch (if only once, as in the case of at least one of them):

Amazon Women in the Mood
Jurassic Bark (and/or Luck of the Fryrish, but for God's sake not both in the same sitting)
The Devil's Hands are Idle Playthings
Fry and the Slurm Factory
That Darn Katz

The whole series is on Netflix, last I looked.

Well...They Arent Wrong

More than 75 Republicans have signed a letter urging Republican National Committee Chair Reince Priebus to spend the party's money on helping secure the Republican majority in the Senate, not on Donald Trump's presidential campaign.

The letter, whose signers include former congressmen Mickey Edwards and Christopher Shays; former senator Gordon Humphrey, Bruce Bartlett, a policy aide to Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush; and former RNC staff members said that Trump's campaign will have a "catastrophic impact" on down-ballot races.

It is another instance of Republicans coming out against the party's presidential nominee. In recent weeks, a number of high-profile Republicans have said they cannot support Trump's candidacy.

"We believe that Donald Trump’s divisiveness, recklessness, incompetence, and record-breaking unpopularity risk turning this election into a Democratic landslide, and only the immediate shift of all available RNC resources to vulnerable Senate and House races will prevent the GOP from drowning with a Trump-emblazoned anchor around its neck," the letter reads.

Emphasis mine.

Good first 'graph. Not sure if it's true, but it reads well.

Yeah, it reads well. But the belly-aching over people voting third party is a load of horse ****.

I realize that there are other ways that we can inform the Ds and Rs of what a terrible job that they're doing representing our country, but collectively giving them 100% of the vote is one of the best ways to ensure that they never get that message. I don't care who you are, if 10% or 15% is going to another option, that's harder to ignore than 3% and that many more absent voters.

Again, the alternate choices MUST BE BETTER for a person to vote for them.

I'm not going to vote for a 3rd party for the sake of doing that, and I would not suggest anyone else do the same.

As of right now, none of the alternates check the boxes enough for many to vote for them.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XVI: KICK THE BABY!

Redirecting money down ballot to save Goopers from a Trump implosion isn't going to work very well. Very, very few incumbents in Congress have come out against him, most likely because he represents their views pretty well. Now you own him. State races are a different story as people tend to split their votes more in those.

Were I cursed enough to be running the RNC, your only hope is to prop up the guy in swing states to minimize his losses even though you know he's doomed and thus allow some people to hang onto their seats. The template, while dated, is the 1996 election which was over shortly after the convention, but where Dole kept it just close enough to avoid disaster downballot. Two things to remember though: 1) Dole was better thought of than Trump, and 2) people don't ticket split as much now. So, knucks' in NY, NJ, NH, CA to the extent they exist are screwed. Put all your resources into Ohio, FL, AZ, NC - places where you have a lot of Reps and hope they can outrun the top of the ticket.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XVI: KICK THE BABY!

Yeah but what if Hillary and Drumpf dont either?

It's the voter's job to figure that out.

November is going to be the least of 4 bad choices- big deal- it's still a game of who is the best of 4 choices.

Blindly voting 3rd party without actually looking is no better than blindly voting for R or D.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XVI: KICK THE BABY!

No one should blindly vote anything...but there are plenty more blind voters for the Dems and GOP than there are for third parties.
