Re: Campaign 2016 Part XV: Before & After: Dancing in the Streets of Philadelphia!

I'm not sure why the attitude that third party supporters give off should have anything to do with whether I would vote third party or not. The majors' have plenty of jerks, too.

If we had IRV people could vote their conscience without risking the election of Damian Thorn. The majors will go to the wall to stop it like cigarette companies trying to defend smoking, but it's probably the most effective way in our system to enfranchise all voters.

If that were the case this entire board would vote themselves.

Fixed your post.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XV: Before & After: Dancing in the Streets of Philadelphia!

I have always thought that it's complete B.S. for people to blame Nader for Al Gore's loss. It presumes that a Nader vote would have been for Gore. What if they had voted for Bush, or not voted at all?

It doesn't presume every Nader vote would go to Gore. Gore would have won the election if he had gotten one out of every three Nader votes in New Hampshire. He only needed about one out of every 180 Nader votes in Florida to win.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XV: Before & After: Dancing in the Streets of Philadelphia!

The main thing I can't stand with the advocates of the third party candidates is the assumption that since I don't fully agree with the major candidates I should vote X because "you have another choice!" No, no I don't.

Take Johnson/Weld. Libertarian Party candidates right? I'm a union member and a strong believer in democratic-socialism, why the * would I even consider voting Libertarian? Johnson/Weld is everything I hate about Republicans minus the anti-gay rhetoric and the overt racism. No thanks, I'll pass.

Jill Stein? Sure I agree with a lot of social policies but there's one hitch: Green Party. Yes I want to tackle global warming and have good environmental protection and all that but, I also live in a state that is highly dependent on the oil industry. I'd love to hear a little more on how they plan to help areas highly dependent on oil economically when they cut off the production. Also, they're not too keen on hunting and fishing.

What I see out of a lot of the people who advocate third party is the attitude of people who think they're the smartest person in the room and want everyone to know it, without ever really thinking about they're saying.

I did a little of the same thing, and came to the same conclusions.

It would be nice if there was an alternate party that checked more boxes, but at the moment, most of them have as many or more negatives than positives relative to Democrats.

The biggest issue is that *most* people fall into the crossing bell *shapes* that define the current Republican and Democratic parties. It's hard to gain traction on the outer fringes of stuff- it's great to point out that a lot of Libritarian issues are in the middle of one axis of R&D, but other issues move to the fringe areas of either one, too.

The reality of voting is finding the one that is the best fit to you. If it's the least of 100 evils, oh well, it is. The problem there is that "non evil" people are not running enough. So get out and get involved.

Little Ralphie Nader is a fraud and has earned all the scorn he gets. Having said that, yes a better run Gore campaign would have made him irrelevant. However, any Ralphie rumpswabber out here has to come to terms with his oft repeated statement that there was no difference between Gore and Bush. You gotta be a total fuking idiot to not see a difference between those two guys, regardless of which one you supported.

BUT, since nobody on the Dem side is pulling this sorta crap, I'm not sure why we're having this discussion.

So Trump has come out and said he hopes Russia has Hillary's emails.

Think about that. The Republican nominee for President just stated that he hoped a foreign power hacked the emails of the country's chief ambassador and the person fourth in line of succession to the president. And he's the supposed national security pick.

I mean it in the sense that they seem to think they'll either "break the system" or "show the system you're not happy." No, no you're not. If they really wanted to actually change the system they'd start at the local level and start taking over various local and state positions and work up from there (something that could actually be accomplished in places like Alaska). Getting 2% in the Presidential election doesn't do much.

Sounds like a real law and order candidate.

He's fair and balanced.

He's Rob Ford without the sense of humor.

It's not that he shouldn't win the election. It's that he shouldn't get a single electoral vote.

So you are saying that because I voted for Obama in '08 and now will choose to vote 3rd party (in a state that has zero chance of going Red) I am saying "I dont mind Trump as President"? That is Faux Level fear mongering/BS.

The Dems should repeat the point that Russia is trying to weaken the US by getting Trump elected as many times as possible until election day. If there's anything that can put a dent in the "He's not afraid to tell it like it is" crowd, it would be convincing them that Russia is outsmarting us in some way.

So, what you're saying is that if only those Nader voters who would have voted for Gore, had actually voted for Gore, and all of the Nader voters who would have voted for Bush decided to keep their vote for Nader, Gore would have won? Sure, but pointless.

This coming from someone that believes in foreign diplomacy to solve problems...

Here's the article. This is, like, treason, isn't it? Is he trying to get himself out of the race?

I'm saying that if you took any random sampling of 180 Nader voters in Florida, the number that would vote Gore is greater than the number that wouldn't vote + the number that would vote Bush. That's not exactly a stretch.

Trump would commit honest-to-God treason if he thought he would benefit.

And as a major party nominee he will receive classified CIA intelligence briefings from now until the election.
