Campaign 2016 Part XIV: Just Dropped in (To See What Condition My Convention Was In)

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XIV: Just Dropped in (To See What Condition My Convention Was

I get a kick out of people who give us the whole, "we are screwed beyond belief" if "X" is elected. All I read in the USCHO political threads is how we are screwed beyond belief if Trump is elected. Elsewhere you can find as many writings about how we are screwed beyond belief if Clinton is elected.

Hogwash.

Will they screw us in some small measure, for their own personal gain? Sure. To paraphrase recent commercial advertisements, "that's what politicians do."

No wonder drug companies in this country make billions off medications like Xanax.

Right, I am definitely chicken littling this. The GOP has shown amazing restraint when it has control of Congress along with the presidency. What was I thinking? (the Dems are no better with control though they are more spineless)

And of course Trump wont go off all crazy (cause he has been the model of sanity so far) when he wins. What evidence is there of that?

This isnt "they will spend us into oblivion" types of issues, this is "have you seen what is happening in the UK" type of issue. If you dont think a party/candidate that says the stuff he says in a public forum about Muslims, Women, Mexicans...etc. is downright dangerous, if you dont think that a guy who is saying he will torture people and murder their families (ya know...War Crimes) is a sign of something terrible then maybe it is you that needs meds man.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XIV: Just Dropped in (To See What Condition My Convention Was

My problem with Trump isn't that he'll launch World War 3. My problem is that it'll take the country generations to overcome the damage he does. Since we're still getting over the GWB debacle, we can't afford another one just like it or worse.

So, something like massive tax cuts for the rich is an area where not only the GOP Congress and Trump will agree, they'll be trying to top each other in negotiations. The country can't afford that. I'm also guessing he can unilaterally ban Muslim immigration (but not round up legalized citizens - SCOTUS already slapped down Bush when he tried that). His anti science/anti vaccination bit is disturbing as well, especially when Ben freakin' Carson had to be the voice of reason in their debate over it. Of course, there's the aforementioned Court picks.

Trump is the worst candidate I've seen in my lifetime.

This cant be repeated enough...and I am not one to say that about a Rover post ;)

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XIV: Just Dropped in (To See What Condition My Convention Was

I think things would be pretty bad if any Republican won the white house this election because 1) it means the Rs probably will have a majority in both houses of congress. I don't see the democrats making much gain in the senate if they lose the top of the ballot. The house is so gerrymandered they are going to hold it anyway.

We've seen what the Rs in the house are willing to do. If they didn't have a more sane senate and the president to stop them, think of all the **** they'd pull. Repeal Obamacare with nothing to replace it. Reduce social security and medicare benefits. Cut planned parenthood funding. Roll back clean air/clean water/carbon reduction standards. Cut taxes on the wealthy. Hell, we'd probably get some national version of some of those ridiculous "religious freedom" and bathroom laws. You think a republican president would veto any of that ****?

Trump is infinitely worse. Not because he would be a rubber stamp for an insane congress, but what does his election tell the rest of the world about Americans? What does it mean for the future of politics?

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XIV: Just Dropped in (To See What Condition My Convention Was

I agree with you 99 times out of 100. I laughed at alarmists who said things like that about Reagan and Bush Sr. and Clinton and Dubya and Obama.

Trump is different. He's an existential threat to American democratic institutions. He's a classic demagogue / strongman / warlord. A Putin who gives zero f-cks about democracy. He's a genuine threat to a system of government built on laws rather than on the personality of the Leader.

This is Lyndon LaRouche being nominated by a major party. This is serious sh-t.
I think Trump is a salesman (personally I would say huckster). He will look at you and say exactly what he thinks you want to hear him say. If he thinks you want to hear him say that we should kill all the muslims, he'll say it. The next day he'll go to a meeting of muslims and tell them how much he loves them.

I've written this here before, I think, but personally I don't think the actual nuts and bolts of being POTUS interest Trump in the least. It's like all of his grandiose project ideas. Nothing ever gets accomplished or built, but if he gets some publicity out of it, great. I think the only thing that would interest him would be flying around the country, listening to bands play Hail to the Chief and hearing himself introduced as POTUS, and ultimately enhancing his "brand."

Personally I hate the Harold Hill types which is why I wouldn't vote for him for dogcatcher, but if people think we're going to get some sort of facist legislative agenda pushed by Trump if he were ever elected, I think they're mistaken.

Wait a minute. This killing happened exactly one week ago, no one has been arrested for the murder, and a conspiracy has already been developed, and debunked by Snopes??? Jeebus, HBO can't even do a murder series that fast.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XIV: Just Dropped in (To See What Condition My Convention Was

It would be best to see them win! :)

Not yet. The government is still considerably farther to the right of the population on fiscal policy (due to bribery). We need a liberal administration to institute campaign reform to insulate the government from the 1%. After that, we can be as libertarian as you want. But the libertarians obviously won't give us campaign reform -- they will only exacerbate the problem. That's the only issue I have with them, but it's a killer.

As their ad said, give them 4 years and if we don't like it we can always go back then and vote a Hillary or Trump into office.

She also threw a mini tantrum in the Benghazi hearings.

Wow. This comment could be used as a textbook example of confirmation bias. You better take another look at the broadcast, Joecct.

Or by "mini tantrum" did you mean she owned the GOP committee members with her preparedness and calm demeanor? If so, yes, she did that.

I love the ad and Weld is the only Republican I have ever voted for. If we were coming off a period of liberal dominance, like in the 70s, they would be the ideal ticket. But unfortunately we are still repairing the immediate damage of Dubya and the deep rot of Reagan.

If you posit a world where the Democrats and the Libertarians are the major parties who dominate Congress and trade the White House, while the Republicans are a niche, regional white power, anti-science party, I'll sign right up.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XIV: Just Dropped in (To See What Condition My Convention Was

Hillary did no such thing. She owned that hearing with her poise and logic ...

... and hypno-toad prism glasses. (I said "prism"; if you heard something else it's on you.)

Similar could be said about the current POTUS and race relations at this time.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XIV: Just Dropped in (To See What Condition My Convention Was

Trump is the worst candidate I've seen in my lifetime.

Hillary should be thanking her lucky stars for Trump or she'd be holding that inauspicious title on my power rankings.
