Re: Campaign 2016 Part XIV: Just Dropped in (To See What Condition My Convention Was

Ezra Klein at his best, describing Trump's performance art piece from yesterday.

I can tell you that he rambled, but that doesn’t do it justice. He spoke about Hillary Clinton, about himself, about his victories. He talked about crushing the Republican establishment in the primaries and talking to a buddy building plants in Mexico. He bragged about the beautiful hotel he is building in Washington, DC, and patted himself on the back for his foreign policy foresight over the years.

Every five minutes or so, he seemed to remember, just for a moment, like a man trying and failing to wake from a dream, that he was there to introduce Mike Pence, and so he would say something like, "now back to Mike Pence," but then he would slip back again, and tell another anecdote about himself.

The monologue went 28 minutes and will be studied by mental health professionals for years to come.

No one will work with Trump. Basically, press "pause" on the USA IMO.

I hate to tell you this but you are so wrong it is downright dangerous to think that way. If he wins that means the Rs most likely hold Congress. They may hate him but they love power and if they have the opportunity to seize it they will. They wont block him because they wont have to.

There is no "pause" button. If you are going to not vote that is fine but dont do it because you assume people will do the right thing. They wont. They dont have to like him to get everything they want and he doesnt have to get along with them to get what he wants. They will work together because they are the same party and it helps them both.

Seriously, you need to think this over more...you and everyone else with that thought process or we are going to be screwed beyond belief. (as uno said see: Brexit)

I have to agree with this. Normally I hold with the people who say "vote for something." But this time I am voting against something. Voting against Trump is rejecting the Celebrity Candidate Model, and a step away from 2020 being Kanye vs the guy from Duck Dynasty.

Has anyone seen the Paul Ryan selfie of Capitol Hill interns? My god.

Now Gawker piles on. Chris Christie is smiling, somewhere.

It would be nice for someone to say "Rover was right" in terms of the Sanders voters coming over to Clinton. To think some people thought the Trumpster was going win like 25% of Bernie voters. Do Trump and Sanders have ANYTHING in common?

Have you ever noticed though that every world event is spun as possibly helping Donald Trump, but never helping Hillary? Amazing how the biased liberal lamestream media keeps that up. I call it the Cokie Roberts Effect (any news story benefits the Republicans). So, the job gains far exceeded expectations last month and....crickets. But, a fistfight breaks out between bimbos trying to get into a Luke Bryan concert and that social unrest is definitely going to benefit Trump's law and order campaign. Because, there's nothing like electing a racist crackpot to unify the country. :D

You cannot be serious.

Nobody knows at this point. If reports are to be believed, HRC threw temper tantrums while FLOTUS and was haughty with the help. She also threw a mini tantrum in the Benghazi hearings.

She's not a mild manner reporter for a major metropolitan newspaper. Either is tD.

Hillary did no such thing. She owned that hearing with her poise and logic. Gowdy et al. were gorillas throwing their poo around and Hillary calmly and methodically dismembered them.

It is obvious that Hillary has the temperament to be president. It is obvious that a random person chosen from Facebook would be more emotionally stable than Donald Trump.

Don't play the "nobody knows" card. Everybody knows. Trump is an unhinged narcissistic. He would be in over his head modding this forum, let alone running a nation.

I get a kick out of people who give us the whole, "we are screwed beyond belief" if "X" is elected. All I read in the USCHO political threads is how we are screwed beyond belief if Trump is elected. Elsewhere you can find as many writings about how we are screwed beyond belief if Clinton is elected.

Hogwash.

Will they screw us in some small measure, for their own personal gain? Sure. To paraphrase recent commercial advertisements, "that's what politicians do."

No wonder drug companies in this country make billions off medications like Xanax.

And EVERYBODY knew Reagan was going to start WW-III.

I agree with you 99 times out of 100. I laughed at alarmists who said things like that about Reagan and Bush Sr. and Clinton and Dubya and Obama.

Trump is different. He's an existential threat to American democratic institutions. He's a classic demagogue / strongman / warlord. A Putin who gives zero f-cks about democracy. He's a genuine threat to a system of government built on laws rather than on the personality of the Leader.

This is Lyndon LaRouche being nominated by a major party. This is serious sh-t.

This ought to set a few people off!!

@ktumulty: At Bloomberg breakfast, Manafort tells reporters that model for Trump's acceptance speech will be Nixon 68.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XIV: Just Dropped in (To See What Condition My Convention Was

My problem with Trump isn't that he'll launch World War 3. My problem is that it'll take the country generations to overcome the damage he does. Since we're still getting over the GWB debacle, we can't afford another one just like it or worse.

So, something like massive tax cuts for the rich is an area where not only the GOP Congress and Trump will agree, they'll be trying to top each other in negotiations. The country can't afford that. I'm also guessing he can unilaterally ban Muslim immigration (but not round up legalized citizens - SCOTUS already slapped down Bush when he tried that). His anti science/anti vaccination bit is disturbing as well, especially when Ben freakin' Carson had to be the voice of reason in their debate over it. Of course, there's the aforementioned Court picks.

Trump is the worst candidate I've seen in my lifetime.
