Campaign 2016 Part XII: What Have We Done To Deserve This?

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XII: What Have We Done To Deserve This?

And Ms. Warren doesn't want her side to appoint the next generation of judges? (And heavens, she wouldn't want those to tilt the law, say, in her favored viewpoint, would she?)

This is so beyond laughable it's comedy. 9 Clarence Thomas'es couldn't appease the mindset of the current right wing majority.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XII: What Have We Done To Deserve This?

Yeah, that's why Obama nominated that reknowned radical leftist flame-thrower Merrick Garland.

When they get to the court they stay with their past rulings. < cough > Souter < cough >

C'mon Scoob, you missed it entirely. Everything has gone all political. There are no more states(wo)men, just politicians. And the courts are no longer filled with disinterested judges but advocacy jurists. That's fine I guess as long as they're advocating your POV.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XII: What Have We Done To Deserve This?

Given the recent revelations that Trump failed to pay hundreds of people and companies for services provider, when Trump loses the general election, who would bet against his campaign workers getting stiffed? Pay checks are only for winners!!

I'd say it's guaranteed.

Dude's just a garden variety a flim flam man who won the birth lottery.

Ironically, I think Obama is a statesman. In their time statesmen are always vilified by the opposing party, but I believe in fifty years Obama will be considered a national hero for remaining calm at a time of complete lunacy.

I'm not sure there was ever a time when executive and legislative government was not "all political," but I do not think courts are filled with advocacy jurists. I realize you may be referring only to the Supremes, but there are a LOT of disciplined judges out there committed to the rule of law.

One of movement conservatism's tenets is that a judge who rules on the merits in favor of a liberal cause is "activist,"while a judge who rules on pure partisanship in favor of a conservative cause is a "strict constructionist."

Scalia was never above pulling a novel interpretation of the Constitution out of his butt for partisan purposes.

Thomas is the same way. In fact, he's actually more conservative, he's just less pugilistic about it.

Arguing against an overgeneralization with an overgeneralization. That's some bad hat, Harry.
It was an attempt to subtly point out poor logic (sic) by utilizing equally poor logic. Being such an infrequent poster makes it tougher to get those subtleties across. While I knew it would be lost on Rover, I'd hoped others would catch it. My bad. And now just to show that I haven't learned from my mistakes:
If you're angry your fellow Americans picked Trump you only have yourself to blame. You didn't rise up and get the votes necessary to stop him.
Based on this, the GWB reign was all due to Scooby.

It's all your fault! It's all your fault! It's all your fault! It's all your fault!
This is the way of conservatives always. Every election. They never really support the GOP candidate verbally. 'Oh both candidates are bad'. I've never figured out why.

Anyways if you think I'm wrong...who is/was a great candidate (or president)? Trump? Romney? McCain? W? Dole? GH Bush? I know...I know...both candidates are always terrible...so you lash out against the dem and vote (or pretty much support) GOP every time anyways.

Its the conservative way.
There's a point here but I'll be dammned if I can figure out what it is. Does anyone else remember verybdog?

Of course! Liking baseball over other sports equated to being racist.

And you're right, 5mn_m's post isn't far off from the logic verybdog used to post.

Between the Trump U trial, the USA Today report of hundreds of companies and individuals being stiffed by Trump and this morning's NY Times very detailed report of how Trump made millions in Atlantic City while bankrupting multiple casinos and costing thousands of jobs, his self-proclaimed reputation as a brilliant businessman is once again being revealed to be not just a yuuuge exaggeration, but a myth.

Get ready for another chorus of "the media isn't treating me fairly" from America's whiner-in-chief.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XII: What Have We Done To Deserve This?

That will just mean that they lost because Trump wasn't a true conservative and they'll have to double down in 2020.

You almost had to wish for Cruz to get the nomination to finally cauterize it.

Maybe...but The Establishment will pick the candidate next time. There will be no clown show, if they get trounced the unwashed masses will be told to sit down and shut up. Either way though Priebus will be done because he has basically told said Establishment they can suck and egg if they dont support Drumpf.

Hilly and BHO and Isis shooting up a Florida club isn't good....

Just like Romney and Bain. Buy something with other people's money, leverage it to the hilt while paying yourselves very generous salaries and fees, and then walk away with your millions leaving the crumbling husk of a once-thriving business behind for others to deal with.

The new American capitalist dream.
