Fantastic piece by the NY Times on Trump and the Judiciary.

You don't say.

Senator McCain thinks were strong enough for the Donald.

John must not have been alive from 2000-2008.

Are you kidding John hugged it out with Bush and supported him fully. John also pretty much told the military to get bent when they said it was time to allow gays in. John sold out long ago...

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XII: What Have We Done To Deserve This?

Sorry but just because he agrees with the other side doesnt make his opinion have more value. I have heard the guy talk enough to know his thoughts are not the most salient. That doesnt change just because he realized his party hates him now.

Michael Steele is an ok guy. Problem is you can't be an ok guy and run the GOP. You have to be a true believer like Reince Priebus. What I find most compelling about the true believers is how malleable they are. It was NO TRUMP for a long time. Now it's TRUMP TRUMP TRUMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For a party with so many litmus tests it is an amazing phenomenon.

It's not the sell out that concerns me. It's his belief in the Institutions that failed to prevent what happened in 2000-2008 that's startling. Obama at least has tried to do everything he could to restore that faith but he's been cock blocked his entire Presidency by the GOP.

Donald Trump: I've sold walls to Ireland, Germany, China, and by gum I've put them on the map!

[holds up a map of the world with those countries drawn on with crayon]

This is great but Hadrian's Wall aint in Ireland. :)

(Unless there's a wall in Ireland. I know Belfast (?) used to be divided.)

Fair enough. I have actually found him to have the one thing I never thought I'd hear in a conserva-bot: genuine self-deprecation. His time as GOP judas goat seemed to make him aware of the complete absurdity of the pundit profession.

But he is still a rhetorical trickster and not an honest broker, and so yes in that I agree he is Part Of The Problem.

It's funny you should say that because I have Reinhold pegged as a merc -- if the DNC was paying $1 more he'd be running their show.

For a True Believer I think you have to go all the back to Haley Barbour, and that's like 20 years. Since then the RNC has been run by sleazeball used car salesmen like Lee Atwater and goofey defense-attorneys-for-the-obviously-guilty like The Flaccid Priapus, but nobody who actually was a defender of the Faith.

That may be part of their problem. Who's the only effective national chair for either party over that time? Howard Dean. Dean believed. He was the hype man for the Leaders of the New School.

Its not clear how much of a true believer Reince is. He has done and said pretty much every logical thing you can do if you were heading the party. He may be conservative, but the guy is a lawyer through and through no matter how guilty his defendant is.

The only explanation of these numbers is our fellow citizens are some combination of ignorant, stupid, and insane.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph in a threesome, what is going on in this country?

Or, they disagree with you.

Maybe a giant meteor will strike the site of the first insult (debate) and the Hand of God saves us.

Do you?

Most poll questions there is at least an argument to be made for each side. But there are pairings which it should be 100-0. Who's hotter, S. E. Cupp or Bernie Sanders? Who's funnier, Barack Obama or Calvin Coolidge? Who's more effective at dealing with the economy or foreign policy, any presidential nominee in the last hundred years or Donald Trump?

People recognize that hilly has nothing to add. Getting banged once by a former president isn't really job training.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XII: What Have We Done To Deserve This?

I have not heard Hillary's San Diego speech yet but apparently everybody, even hard core conservatives, says she hit it out of the park. Michael Steele, who preceded Reince Priebus in the role of "RNC PR BS" (though his name is sadly only MCHL STL when you remove the vowels, which looks like an obscure UP hockey league and team), declared it as brilliant.

Here is the speech in full.

Her delivery, as usual, is simply awful. So stiff. So rehearsed.

But unfortunately she has to be our next POTUS, because the alternative is World War III.

She's getting better, but she's never going to be good in front of a crowd.

She was great at the hearing, though. So it looks like the line is about 50 people -- just enough for fundraising at George Soros' secret bunny ranch.

Kep

My 2nd paragraph should have indicated my sentiments on this election.

I haven't heard the entire speech. I gather it was supposed to be on foreign policy, but from all the soundbites and SOT's I've heard and seen in the past 24 hours, it was long on Trump bashing and short on policy. Other than touting the Iran nuke deal, which I'm not sure is a good plan.

That's the way it's going to go for the next five months. The two of them tossing grenades at each other while not telling the county how they're going to run the country. As Mrs. P says.....there ain't enough popcorn!

I've seen him interviewed many times. He's a true believer. Just because he uses lawyer speak effectively to mask it when he can doesn't mean squat.
