The email thing is landing blows all the time. If she's cleared by the FBI then, yeah, she's clear. If she's not then there's trouble.

No sh !t Sherlock. In other news rain is wet.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XII: What Have We Done To Deserve This?

Politico has some fun.

It was summer, and a major U.S. political party had just chosen an inexperienced, unqualified, loutish, wealthy outsider with ambiguous party loyalties to be its presidential nominee. Some party luminaries thought he would help them win the general election. But many of the faithful were furious and mystified: How could their party compromise its ideals to such a degree?

Sound like 2016? This happened a century and a half ago.

Many have called Donald Trump’s unexpected takeover of a major political party unprecedented; but it’s not. A similar scenario unfolded in 1848, when General Zachary Taylor, a roughhewn career soldier who had never even voted in a presidential election, conquered the Whig Party.

It's actually a darn good historical piece.

Oh, so then there still is something with the email. Five minutes ago you said there wasn't.

Scooby I think you need to open a window and get some fresh air. There is nothing to the e-mails from everything we've heard. Its like how you don't get arrested at work if you failed to archive your reports properly. However, if it turns out Clinton e-mailed a secret memo detailing how she had Vince Foster and Buddy the Dog whacked, then yes she'd be in trouble. Lets just say I consider that to be highly unlikely, while you most likely put that at 50/50.

No, I'd give it about 5%. And it isn't going to be an email about Vince Foster.

It's that she's a Muslim, duh. :p

I noticed he didn't mention Buddy the Dog. Clearly Scooby (dog cartoon character, get the connection?) has it out for Hillary over the assassination of the family Lab before it turned over evidence to the Starr investigation.

The only explanation of these numbers is our fellow citizens are some combination of ignorant, stupid, and insane.

"Regardless of how you intend to vote, who do you think would do a better job creating jobs: Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump?"

Trump +11

"Regardless of how you intend to vote, who do you think would be most effective against ISIS: Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump?"

Trump +8

Jesus, Mary and Joseph in a threesome, what is going on in this country?

Black Lab. Black Lab.

Trump built a huge business on his daddy's money. Economy, check.
Trump knows more about ISIS than the Generals. War, check.

Interesting piece, yet a redone attempt to look at the divides in the GOP by Peggy Noonan. She's been a conservative mouthpiece in a conservative mouthpiece for a long time. Even so, some of her recent stuff shows depth.

http://www.wsj.com/articles/a-party-divided-and-none-too-soon-1464907737

The thing I find interesting is that she positions that what America needs is what they want. That is not what conservative intelligentsia advocates...but that is what Trump advocates. Cause afterall by definition, he received the most votes. Problem is two fold. One, the Republican primary is not 'America' and two, just because 'Americans' want something...doesn't mean its the best for them. Trump's positions bring jobs to coal miners, put barriers to immigration, trade barriers, increase spending/cut taxes, etc all sound grand. But they are potentially not possible...and probably actually not in the countrys best interest.

The long and short of it...is that Trump is pure out-and-out populist. He has distilled out the populist side of every issue and that's Trump's position. He is stopping the food order for broccoli and is doubling down on the hot fudge sunday with extra sugar added in. All his policies sound great at a glimpse...no hard medicine there. But most deliver collateral damage or are at least suboptimal vis a vis alternatives. Peggy and others seem to miss the fact that that is the crux of his message...and so in the end, maybe she is right on one score - populism is popular.

Fantastic piece by the NY Times on Trump and the Judiciary.

Trump Could Threaten U.S. Rule of Law, Scholars Say
You don't say.

Senator McCain thinks were strong enough for the Donald.

Senator John McCain, Republican of Arizona, who has become a reluctant supporter of Mr. Trump, said he did not believe that the nation would be in danger under his presidency.

“I still believe we have the institutions of government that would restrain someone who seeks to exceed their constitutional obligations,” Mr. McCain said. “We have a Congress. We have the Supreme Court. We’re not Romania.”

“Our institutions, including the press, are still strong enough to prevent” unconstitutional acts, he said.

John must not have been alive from 2000-2008.

I wouldn't be too concerned. Not enough people have been paying attention to Trump's actual proposals, such as they are. He can't hide forever as Hillary's gutting of him on foreign policy yesterday shows.

Pretty sure our country is re-enacting "Marge versus the Monorail."

Donald Trump: You know, a town with money is a little like the mule with the spinning wheel. No one knows how he got it and danged if he knows how to use it.

[crowd laughs]

Donald Trump: The name's Trump! Donald Trump. And I come before you good people tonight with an idea. Probably the greatest... Aw, it's not for you. It's more of a Canadian idea.

[starts to walk out of the room]

Joe the Plumber: [at the podium] Now wait just a minute! We're twice as smart as the people of Canada. You just tell us your idea and we'll vote for it!

Donald Trump: All right. I'll tell you what I'll do! I'll show you my idea.

[runs over to a display covered by a sheet, and he whips it off, revealing a diorama of the US and Mexico with a wall going through it]

Donald Trump: I give you the US-Mexico Wall!

[crowd gasps]

Donald Trump: I've sold walls to Ireland, Germany, China, and by gum I've put them on the map!

[holds up a map of the world with those countries drawn on with crayon]

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XII: What Have We Done To Deserve This?

The point is he's a stooge the other way. Steele's job is to gussy up the GOP image and tear down the Dems -- he's still at it, he's just being paid by advertisers now rather than the RNC. He is clearly not happy with Trump as the nominee but he still can't afford to alienate the righty listeners who tune in to hear their worldview reinforced. So I thought it was actually significant that he conceded it was a great speech (albeit saying it in the context "there is no way she will keep to that tone...")

Sorry but just because he agrees with the other side doesnt make his opinion have more value. I have heard the guy talk enough to know his thoughts are not the most salient. That doesnt change just because he realized his party hates him now.
