That's all that frickin' state is!!! Mookie was up and down the gulf coast from lecanto to Naples 2 weeks ago and outside a gated community all he saw was that. Stars and bars stickers and flags on trucks and cars. Parked in lots. Cruising by on the turnpikes. Sitting in bars. Talking with Mookie.

Odd then that Obama won the state twice! Didn't think the stars and bars crowd was voting for him! :confused: :eek:

My impression of FL is the Gulf coast and Panhandle are "xenophobic, angry white Floridians," the rest of the state is Cubans, old Jews, and blacks. I was frankly surprised that Obama took the state -- it must be like other southern states where educated whites are moving in for tech jobs and turning it blue.

Hard to believe any state is going to get redder as long as the GOP keeps on its Back to the Future course. Everybody pining for the good old days before the civil rights movement and the women's right movement has already been humping the GOP feeder bar for decades.

Speaking of that: Elder Republicans quit party they no longer believe in.

Good piece on the GOP worm turning.

What Donald Trump has been doing is telling the base that it can order à la carte. He has, in effect, been telling aggrieved white men that they can feed their anger without being forced to swallow supply-side economics, too. Yes, his actual policy proposals still involve huge tax cuts for the rich, but his supporters don’t know that — and it’s possible that he doesn’t, either. Details aren’t his thing.

Establishment Republicans have tried to counter his appeal by shouting, with growing hysteria, that he isn’t a true conservative. And they’re right, at least as they define conservatism. But their own voters don’t care.

In the past eight years, no one has captivated the realistic hopes of conservative constitutionalists the way that Cruz has in this election. On every single issue of importance to conservatives, Cruz is right. He is a walking, living, breathing Supreme Court dissent, masterfully articulated and extensively annotated on paper.

Then, he opens his mouth. And people scream. They run for the exits as if their hair is on fire. They want to take a shower.

Trump has also not been beating anyone over the head with abortion. He answers those questions where people say he was pro choice with "whatever".

Obama had some good lines at the Correspondent's Dinner last night, but Wilmore bombed for the most part.

Neither as memorable as Colbert in 2007 or the Obama/Meyers combo in 2011.

I'll have to hear it for myself. Larry does some stuff on TNS that is different. It's not impossible that he bombed, but he's also not trying to be Jimmy Kimmel.

The support for Drumpf has been a real wakeup call that the GOP base is not uniformly Handmaid's Tale. There is that loud subset that gets its knickers in a bunch over the socialcon top 40, but the rest are Sweet Home Alabama tribalists: the Bible is a cultural touchstone honored in the breach.

I thought Willmore was fantastic, definitely a lot of uncomfortable moments, but by design.

He has said he loved Colbert's bit, which was pure performance art. He tells a great story about Colbert coming off after his WCD and he and the other comics being psyched that it went well, with the whole room completely not getting it. Larry strikes me as a lot like Colbert: he could do the Stewart hipster irony bit in his sleep but he's bored with it so he does something else.

It was painful. He was clearly nervous at first because his timing was way off. Then once he settled down, his material was just meh...The three minutes spent comparing Cruz to the Zodiac Killer reminded me of Letterman's "Uma/Oprah" bit.

And I get that racial jokes are his main shtick, but half of his jokes were about BLM. This wasn't Colbert sticking it to the man in character, it was just not that funny.

Even the Fark community was giving it middling reviews, and they loved Colbert's.
