The county legislature chairman, a Democrat, was on my morning show this week. To paraphrase his response to my question about the historic-level negatives for Trump and Clinton, he said his comes from insulting women, minorities, etc., while hers comes from 25 years or so of "doing things." :rolleyes:

I think the "I can't believe these are the two choices I have" is one of the more tired clichés in politics. Probably has been going on since Washington bagged it after two terms. Given the robust primary season we've had, the answer is yes, these are your two choices. If John Kasich truly appealed to the electorate, he would have had no trouble beating a carnival barker and a Canadian citizen for the nomination.

Here's a few more! "The election is too close to call!!!!" Inspired by the once in 100 years election of 2000, we'll be hearing that until the end of time. In 2012, even using Rasmussen polling Obama was going to win easily, yet we were supposed to be on pins and needles for a race that got called about 10 minutes after the polls closed on the West Coast.

"There's going to be a brokered convention!" Once Trump crushed it on Super Tuesday, this race was over. He was always going to kill it in the Northeast when the primary got there, but Super Tuesday and the mini Super Tuesday a few weeks later showed him as the only candidate with appeal in all regions. Yet, pundidiotry had a brokered convention right up until Indiana eve.

"Candidate xxxx may not be able to unite the party". Has this ever happened since the last contested convention? Companion screed is that candidate xxx won't be able to raise enough money due to long primary. Aside from maybe Dole in 96 in a race that was pretty much over by Labor Day, has there been a nominee who hasn't had access to enough funds to compete?

I'm sure there's more out there that we'll be hearing real soon...

I would love to get inside Trump's head and find out why he's really running. I think we can speculate, make jokes, condescend, or whatever, but I want to know what the exact moment he decided to actually do it. I want to know what is still driving it. I'm sure the common response is that he's just an egomaniac. That's probably true, but there has to be more. Running for president isn't easy or fun. It's much easier, cheaper, and probably more effective to quietly sit behind the scenes and lobby.

The problem is, no matter what he says, it's probably a fabrication. His character is so carefully constructed that it's imperative he keeps the narrative going to his deathbed.

This is not unsurprisingly wrong.

Narrowing down several various types of excrement to only two does not miraculously transform said excrement into filet mignon.

1. Yes, Hillary has showed excellent qualifications through a long political career, but God forbid someone running for President actually wants the job. Hillary must be the first person running to ever be like that. Oh wait, no, all of them have, she's the first woman to dare doing so. That's going to be the big difference between Obama and Hillary. Racism might be uglier, but latent sexism is far more pervasive.

2. Could Fred Sr. imagine investing his wealth in the S&P 500? Because that would have produced far more wealth than what his son has.

I've seen speculation that it was one of the WH Correspondents dinners, where Obama heckled him somewhat. Being the thin-skinned narcissist that he is, that just couldn't stand. Had to put that uppity Kenyan Socialist in his place

And that article posted earlier, from the authors who've written of him, combine that narcissism with an intense need to be loved, and there you go.

anyone who wants to be president is by default a narcissistic egomaniac. we'd have to go back to gerald ford to find someone otherwise, but even he was somewhat in the same mold here as an athlete & career politician.

Not necessarily. But people that admit her outstanding qualifications, but say they dislike her for a characteristic that has applied to every other (male) candidate for the job ever and has never been an issue before definitely are.

I would not want to be the person in charge of woman outreach in the GOP. Todd Akin is going to look enlightened compared to the stuff we are going to hear this summer. If the GOP winds up permanently -20 with women along with -40 with Latinos and -80 with blacks, there literally aren't enough white males to save them.

If Ryan doesn't jump on the Trump train then Trump is going to destroy him in the media. He left Romney and the Bush Family in his wake this morning on the Meet the Press. It's going to be very entertaining to watch.
