Campaign 2016 Part, let's say, X: There's a red moon rising On the Cuyahoga River

Color me shocked. I would have been much surprised if he actually kept his word or managed to stick to anything he said for that matter (other than he is going to build a wall)

In fairness to Drumpf, I wouldn't stick by it either if the entire party was trying to get me to lose. Why should he pledge support to the party when the party hasn't stayed neutral in its nomination process.

This is why people are still presuming Clinton will win. There would have to be multiple big upsets for Sanders to catch her. He doesn't just have to win the remaining states, he has to win big.

I'm not sure anybody doubted this. Sanders' path to victory was always to do well enough in the primaries that if Hillary was derailed by something else he is then the presumptive nominee. He has done his part; she just has to do hers.

What, not get derailed? That's beyond her control.

So....is Sanders trying to win or not?

Moving on, there's yet another idiotic suggestion that a brokered convention will turn to a unifying candidate like....hold your laughter please..Rick Perry, Scott Walker, Nikki Haley, or Mike Pence! Oookayyyy. I'm sure Trump and Cruz and their supporters are going to happily back an Establishment stiff who's won zero votes or delegates and who's skipped the entire primary process. There is no White Knight people. Its either Trump or Cruz...

PS - Scooby, if this is really you who wrote this (the Walker suggestion) my apologies. ;)

More a commentary on his lack of consistency. Read 1984 by George Orwell. This is tD. He says anything the audience he is addressing wants to hear. Doesn't matter if he said something else 5 minutes ago. He had this trait long before the party was hating on him

Looks like they all have backed off of the promise. One has to wonder why the GOP keeps trying to make people make blanket promises- no taxes, you must endorse X, etc. Rigidity that cannot stick or if it does causes difficulty.

Sanders is trying to get as many of his policies implemented as he can. Running was the most direct way for him to accomplish that. If he wins, he wins; if he loses he forces the other candidates to talk about the issues he cares about.

Let's hypothesize that Bernie continues to run about 45%, and that something Very Bad happens with Hillary between now and the convention. The most obvious is she gets indicted because one of the buckshot "scandals" winds up actually having something of substance behind it. Maybe something comes from completely out of left field; maybe she has a serious health issue. In any case, some meteor takes out her candidacy.

The Democratic party would have two choices: nominate Bernie or have the same sh-tshow in Philadelphia that the GOP will have in Cleveland. Under those circumstances a Bernie nomination is at least 50/50 -- better odds than anybody would have given him last summer.

Bernie had to earn consideration by demonstrating that liberalism is still strong in the party. He has. The rest is up to Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos.

I can imagine them giving Ryan a whirl. He'd look like Lincoln compared to those clowns.

Probably one of the best things that could have happened to the Republican Party. Make all the candidates pledge a certain way on the litmus tests. Trump then bails on them because, well, he's Trump. Other candidates follow suit. Future candidates will just point to this election and ask, "why should I sign, no one ultimately abides?" These stupid pledges go away.

The Dems have a ready made alternative in Joe Biden. If the Philly convention turns out to be a Frank Rizzo revival show, Joe can hop on Amtrak and arrive on his white charger and save the day.

John Kasich is the only alternative on the GOP side. Unfortunately, he'll be arriving on a donkey.

BTW, got my GOP primary sample ballot for the MD primary. In addition to the 3 survivors, everyone else is listed, too. I'm voting for Kasich, but my second choice should be?

Re: Campaign 2016 Part, let's say, X: There's a red moon rising On the Cuyahoga River

In that scenario the party would nominate Bernie in all fairness because he's actually run in the primaries. No reason to turn to Joe Biden who's only a couple of years younger than Sanders but who's had more serious health problems.

However, Sanders campaign is all over the place. They were spouting some nonsense this week about how he should be the nominee because he's only losing because he didn't contests some large states. Do you really want a campaign that openly claims it blew off FL, TX, VA, and NC in the primaries squaring off against Trump in the general election?

So I ask again (rhetorical question, you've already given your view). Is he trying to win or is he simply a conscience of the party candidate? If its the later then he needs to give it up on this "release the transcripts of your speeches" nonsense and stick to issues. If he's trying to win that's cool but then his people can't whine like little girls when someone points out his large delegate deficit.

Everybody whines, it's politics. And one thing Sanders has not been is "all over the place." He has one consistent message: inequality destroys democratic values. He relates everything to it. Now, it just so happens that I have the same prime directive, so I'm all for him. But even if you are against him you should admit he's a model of consistency.

"Release the transcripts" is perfectly in accord with his (our) view that contemporary Wall Street is TEH DEVIL. If Hillary just mouthed the usual substanceless platitudes to humor a bunch of old rich as-sholes, fine, they'll show that. If instead she laid out a point-by-point plan to subvert the democracy and delivery perpetual dictatorial power to the Goldman board, bwa-ha-ha, they'll show that, too. I feel no pain for the Queen -- she bought the ticket and she can take the ride. If their own conscience doesn't stop politicians from rubbing elbows with those swine, maybe public shaming will deter them in future.

As for whining, all I ever heard from Clinton's people is whining like a stuck pig about how anyone has the temerity to challenge Her Highness for her entitled crown. That dog won't hunt. This is politics, and of the two parties the Clintonistas are by far the whiniest.

Sorry if this has already been posted, but this is great.

It's painful to read but there are some absolutely brilliant moment in it.

If you can't get through it, just skip down to the NATO question. It's a very, very great moment where he talks himself into a corner and tries to escape. He actually has to be reminded that Russia has invaded Ukraine and was involved in Syria.

Interesting piece on how movements, parties and presidents can work to bring about significant change (and why that hasn't happened in about 50 years).

I still find it funny she was so eager to get her emails out there, but is scared of releasing some speeches.

You would think they would have learned already. They have a history of doing it that goes back to when I was in college. It hardly ever works out well (except for the Koch brothers)

Speaking of, here's Drumpf's de rigeur climate denial.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part, let's say, X: There's a red moon rising On the Cuyahoga River

My favorite part of yesterday was Trump telling everyone the truth that Walker is a disaster for Wisconsin. Loved it. And, then of course Walker lied and said that he was really supporting Cruz and not just blocking Trump.

The lies are off the charts.
