Campaign 2016 - in bridge, the trump cards are really wild.

Re: Campaign 2016 - in bridge, the trump cards are really wild.

If Bill Hicks was right, and so help me over the years there have been times when I thought he was, Drumpf would already have been assassinated. So there is at least some sense in which the whole game hasn't been fully rigged yet.

.

The "rigging" was always a house of cards. Consider:

1) While Corp Overlords have long owned the GOP lock stock and barrel, they've been increasing reliant on social cons to actually deliver the votes to get in office.
2) Social cons have been getting jack all these years even though they're the backbone of the party.
3) Corp Overlords miscalculated their hold over the rank and file, and started openly pushing even more ridiculous, Ayn Randian policies that specifically screw over the working class whities that make up the party.
4) In Donald Trump, Corps found themselves confronted with a man who due to his wealth and ego couldn't be bought or controlled. Who ever would have imagined a candidate who didn't need to suck up to the Koch's for cash and who could tell Rupurt Murdoch and his network to go F themselves, and STILL win the nomination?
5) Now as he refutes a lot of Corp Overlord policies (free trade, cutting Social Security, illegal immigration) they have no levers to push anymore to stop him especially since he's giving the base what they want.

The Cleveland Screwjob begins.

A Republican presidential candidate doesn’t have to accrue a majority of delegates in eight states to be considered for the nomination during a contested convention in July, former Republican National Committee lawyer Ben Ginsberg — the party's preeminent election law expert — said Wednesday.

“In fact, that's not a rule,” Ginsberg told MSNBC early Wednesday morning. “That's part of what's called the temporary rules. Each convention has to pass for itself the number of states that put a candidate's name in nomination.”

Even if this is true, that cheese is going to be really old by November. They may have moved on to the next thing by then.

Plus wait until the Center for American Progress or the Brookings Institution start releasing studing that under Drumpf fiscal policy Social Security will be bankrupt by 2025, while AEI shouts that the budget deficit will hit $3T per year and the DOD budget will have to be cut in half.

If Cletus loses his assistance check and Cletus Jr. has to stay at home because he can't get a job as SAM fodder, that's going to ruin the party.

You guys are comedy gold. People hate Hillary Clinton. Hate. When people hate people they vote for the other guy. This is W vs. Gore except Gore is hated even more this time then last time.

No, this is Nixon 60 vs Nixon 46. And honestly I don't know who wins that.

I read a version of this as well. Party convention rules are whatever they decide at the convention. If the GOP decides that any state who voted for a candidate wearing a bleached dead skunk on his head loses its delegates, they can do so.

Having said that I see no way the party can make peace with Trump if he isn't the nominee even though he won the most votes. Use the 2008 Dem race (the last high turnout primary) as a proxy. 70M people voted for Obama in the general. About 40M voted in the primary I'm estimating. Applying the same %'s to the GOP's 60M voters, Trump will win about 15M votes. He's not going to endorse a rival, nor is he going to campaign for them. Most likely, a good portion of his 15M voters who are fed up with party politics stay home. That's 25% of the GOP base in the general election! Really, they have no other choice but to nominate him.

This seems like a contradiction, though, when you are also saying that Drumpf is not attracting new voters but has guys (hopefully all guys; I refuse to believe there are women stupid enough to fall for Drumpf) who dependably vote R. That means they could vote R again.

The question is, if the RNC screws Drumpf, will he go along with it? I find it hard to believe they have anything they can bribe him with. Drumpf seems like a classic narcissist so what could they cover his loss of face with? More money? He doesn't need it. Power? Being president is more power than they can give him? Fame? Don't make me laugh.

If I were with the RNC ('scuse me while I vomit) I would smile and embrace his nomination and run with it. If we win we win, if we lose we blame him and none of us gets hurt. It's the easiest call in history.

Re: Campaign 2016 - in bridge, the trump cards are really wild.

So, you think everyone's lying when they say it's NEW voters who are voting for Trump? Cause I don't. I don't even think most of the GOP is voting for him. I think everyone that he is getting are people that either A. Never voted before. or B. I'm a reality TV show watcher and this is fun.

The people voting for him don't care about politics. They care about the game show. And they're the majority in this country.

So they dont care about politics but they are going to go out of their way to vote in the election? Sure thing Scoobs! Maybe they will all write in Walker too...

You need to work on the act...I know the GOP isnt giving you much to work with but come on Sancho Doo you are better than this. This is Air America level shlock :D

Re: Campaign 2016 - in bridge, the trump cards are really wild.

They're not "new" GOP voters. They're new to the primary process but they vote Gooper reliably in the general election.

Sanders is actually bringing in some new voters since they weren't old enough in many cases to vote the last time. Trump hasn't found a previously unidentified cohort of crabby old white guys who haven't voted since 1984. The GOP ceiling, until someone proves it differently, is the 60-61M votes that both McCain and Mittens pulled in '08 and '12.

Scooby, this is how wrong you are...Rover is right! That is how far down the rabbit hole you have gone ;)

Re: Campaign 2016 - in bridge, the trump cards are really wild.

Yep. I'm the one underestimating reality television.

From what you are typing you sound like you are AUDITIONING for reality television...or a job at MSNBC since Ed Shulz is gone.

Then again...I am still waiting for you to tell me how Drumpf is going to flip the Obama States. He has a lot of work to do. Even if Cletus comes out to vote the 1%ers aint supporting him.

Well, he can flip Ohio, Florida, and Michigan based on how he has the most in common with Sanders that's running this year. Hillary can't flip any GOP States.

Trump's your prez under that scenario.

MIAMI-- Jeb Bush plans to meet with three of his former rivals in the coming days, NBC News confirms.
Bush will meet with Ohio Gov. John Kasich, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz as the candidates travel to Miami for another Republican primary debate taking place Thursday.

They will vote R again, but who cares? Obama coalition has a 6-10M vote advantage over the GOP coalition in the general election. What Hillary loses amongst college age voters she offsets with older married women hoping to see a female President in their lifetimes. I'll also say if Trump is the nominee Hispanics are going to come out in droves to shove it up his you know what.
