After watching part of the debate, I was wrong, there is one person that appears to be someone who should be running for president, John Kasich.

The panel on either Larry Wilmer or Bill Maher talked about that. Drumpf is the type of bully who instinctively knows what his victim's worst psychological fear is, and he goes right to it. Jeb is low energy -- once you associate that you can never unsee it. Rubio is flop sweat: that defines him as punching hopelessly above his weight. Cruz is an unlikable liar. Those are his essential characteristics.
Drumpf is the kid on the playground who can go around the circle and say, "lazy eye," "knock off brand clothes," "neck fat," "your Dad left your Mom," "pants wetter," and have every other kid curled up and bawling before the lunch bell rings. He's the evil bearded Spock version of a therapist.

To that constituency, you are right. But to others it is compelling if it results in some discussion about policy. But yes, political campaigns are not about policy discussion; they are knock-down-drag-out brawls for power and control.

My only post in this thread....
For most of my life that I've paid attention to politics, I have seen the Republicans tell us big government is bad, and ineffective, and that we need outsiders. As much as Regan was a Governor, it was not all that long before that he was an actor- so he was an outsider....
And that rhetoric has been continuing on continuously since then. Louder when Democrats are in any position of power.
We have seen many long time and effective Representatives and Senators blown out of office because of this movement.
The whole Tea Party movement jumped on that anti-establishment idea.
Which has resulted in the situation we have right now- the angry, businessman, outsider, who does a great job telling us how bad of a job we are doing, is leading the race by a mile. And the establishment candidates are in total explosion mode trying to stop it.
Well, you reap what you sow.
I'm a pretty solid D, but my R friends see that same thing, too.

Space is like Basic Science and the Arts -- you do it in spite of the masses, not because of them. And like Basic Science and the Arts, in the end it's the only thing that matters -- all the rest: economics, defense, health care, education, is just keeping the physical machine working so that it can do the important things. So you sneak in the funding, or tie it to something Wanda June can understand and support. You tie Space to beating those durned Ruskies, and Basic Science to "curing cancer," and the Arts... well, you can't tie the Arts to anything Wanda June will understand, so you just flat out fund it and take the hits politically.
The issue now is Wanda June isn't just voting, she's in Congress, and her pea brain won't ever begin to comprehend what's really important. Luckily, the people who do are way, way smarter and more savvy, and they'll go on making sure these things do actually get funded, until the US is so far down the rabbit hole that we'll have to move all the important projects somewhere else.
Democracy remains the only fair way to run politics. It has problems, but they're worth it. And that 1% who get the big picture used to be .1%, or even .01% so little by little things will get better. Someday it will be 10%, and then eventually 100%. We just may need to pass the torch a few more times. Japan seems nice. China would be ideal if they would just get it over with and go full frontal democratic already.
Figure it's what, Miletus --> Athens --> Alexandria --> Baghdad --> Paris --> London --> Vienna --> New York. A long trip, with just a few more jumps to go.

I'm not sure how we can ever take a debate seriously again. Awhile back I was watching a Rocky retrospective where Stallone was saying that you can never film a fight scene that had less punches thrown than the previous one or the audience would notice. Likewise, how can you go back to cerebral discussions about issues after this one? With the ratings being what they are every network hosting one of these things is going to make it into the Royal Rumble, and all they need is one candidate to play along.

Just listen to that crowd. I've been saying all along this rhetoric is very reminiscent of professional wrestling. Cut a promo on the other guy, put yourself "over" with the crowd as wrestling vernacular likes to say.
It's very telling that Drumpf is good friends with Vince McMahon.
Then again, Vince is VERY much an old school old money Republican - his wife Linda lost her Congressional race in 2012 and he blames the Tea Party for poisoning the well. Dunno how he's handling this one.
