You guys all think it's funny that the GOP is stuck with Trump. Wait until you find out that not only do 70% of the Republicans support Trump and his interment camp ideas, but 48% of Democrats do too. Then what?

Because they know that Trump's correct when he says that if he quits the Republican party and runs as an Independent in the general election that the same people who will vote for him now will vote for him then, and the "legitimate" Republican candidate will come in third in November.

Speaking to the crowd still using dial-up and Windows 98SE, apparently.

Doesn't Gates have ways of just shutting that whole thing down? I'm sure he will get right on tying off the series of tubes.

My dad has a Sony VAIO from 1996 in the basement. It still runs Windows 95. He uses it for the sole purpose of playing euchre on Hoyle Classic Card Games. In MS-DOS.

I'm amazed the computer still runs.

Donald Trump represents mainstream conservative thought in the here and now, not what the party was 40 years ago. Therefore, why shouldn't he be the nominee? If anything he presents America with a clear example of what they're voting for, unlike a Jebbers! Bush who has little to do with the base of the party.

Also, please site where 48% of Dems agree with Trump's views.

They're scared and don't have a safe space to retreat to. One more Muslim attack in this country and it will make the post 9/11 hysteria look mild. If it's a big one, it may bring down the government.

I've always thought free day care would be a big winner for the Dems. It probably pays for itself by freeing up so many millions of people to join the workforce, and nothing would do more to break the circle of poverty.

Not to mention that it's, you know, the right thing to do.

And part of me wants to enjoy the acute embarrassment of Republicans fulminating against abortion for TEH KULTURE OF LIFE!!!111! and then immediately swatting this proposal down because, hey, once you're born you're on your own, sucka.

As in the Executive would no longer be the Executive. BHO would be driven out of office on a rail. There could be a legislative coup to drive the entire Executive Branch out.

I was raised to believe Americans are brave and that was how we managed to keep our civil liberties protections even during times of threat.

But it turns out that's bull, and it has been throughout our entire history. Americans are the biggest cowards on the planet. Despite two oceans and weak, friendly neighbors, we happily throw all our rights in the trash the instant we get our hair mussed.

If we ever get The Big One -- dirty bomb in Times Square, that sorta thing -- The Great Experiment in Democracy will be over and we'll be just another Pinochet corporate police state. We took a wrong turn somewhere along the line, maybe by not kicking the South out, maybe even earlier.

It turns out we're no different from France or Germany or Russia. We are only as free as we feel safe.

74 years ago we got angry. And 400,000+ Americans died to revenge that episode. Kep, we've changed. We want to be safe and comfortable and will do almost anything to remain in that state. IMO, the same could be said of Europe in the early 30's. The threat was there, but the democracies made accommodations with Germany to keep the status quo in their country (and screw the Czechs). How did that work out?

We're doing the same thing. They don't think like us or have the same values. We can't think that because we would do X in response to Y, that they would have the same reaction.

Anyone have any ideas?

Yes, you check yourself into an insane asylum. :rolleyes: The problem with people of your generation is the idea that the country can't go on without you, so therefore we're all doomed. Get over yourself. The country would survive a terrorist attack much in the same way it survived the last one, and the one before that, and the one before that.
