Campaign 2016 - A Trump l'oeil? Kepler's Laws of Election Motions? Ship of Fools?

The "compassionate conservative" label is deceitful in itself, because the "compassion" turns out to be their ideological hobbyhorse that the hand that you hold is the hand that holds you down. Hence, when they defund social programs it's "compassionate."
Compassionate is a similar code word as "religious freedom"

On MTP when asked about his "birther" misadventure (whatever happened to the crack investigative team Trump dispatched to Hawaii?), The Donald declined to talk about it.

I'd imagine that if the self-proclaimed "great dealmaker who went to Wharton" was asked about how his ego killed a professional sports league (the USFL), he'd have turned nasty and accused Chuck Todd of "not being nice." http://www.salon.com/2011/04/21/trump_tollin_usfl/

After what Trump did to Megyn Kelly, a wuss like Chuckles Todd is going to be scared sh! tless over asking him any tough questions. Guys like that tend to be intimidated by Republicans anyway for fear of being accused of "bias" by right wing media. That's childs play compared to what The Donald would do to a guy like Todd, Weaselopolous, Fossil Schieffer if he was still around, etc. They'll ask a question, but won't follow up when they get a nonsensical answer.

The great thing about the Short Fingered Vulgarian is it's so easy to troll him back. The minute you scuff his shoes he's on Twitter at 3 in the morning drunk tweeting insults about you "not being classy."

Gotta stick with what works. Whatever he's doing, he's up double digits on everybody else.

Watching the interviewer hand Trump the $3.14 cent judgment satisfaction check in that USFL 30 For 30 movie, and Trump's reaction, was one of my all time favorite movie highlights.

This. I still laugh about that when I see Trump.

"There's no such thing as bad publicity."

The next 10 months are going to test that adage.

If your referring to Trump, IMO his goals for personal gain have been met in spades (and there's almost nothing that could possibly take that away). I don't know that Trump's goal could ever be to be loved. Now if the lotto comes in and Trump somehow gets elected, he will likely be in the running for one of the top ten most famous people of the 21st century (just due to who he is).

Hillary hits 53% unfavorable, her highest in 24 (!) years of polling.

28% of All Americans and 25% of registered voters have still never heard of Bernie. Guess he wasn't mentioned on "Bachelor in Paradise." (7% have never heard of Joe Biden. Turn that over in your kind for a bit.)

Bernie is now 21 points behind Hillary nationally (48-27). However, when you include second choices Bernie takes a beating. First or second choice: Hillary 74%, Bernie 43, Biden 50, all others 33.

Hillary still beats the R field in the general. Among registered voters:

52-43 Bush
51-45 Trump
52-46 Walker
53-43 Fiorina

Ted Cruz, out getting the word out on the poor persecuted christians and their plight.

Tailgunner Ted better learn to censor his Comments. Every one of them so far is pointing out his hypocrisy.

The great thing is we'll have a record of these bigots' statement forever, so they won't be able to run from them. It's like having a million "segregation forever" speeches recorded, and they're doing it themselves.

Imagine if we had video clips of not just demagogues but also everyday shlubs in the 1950s fulminating against the horrifying danger of miscegenation, or in the 1930s about the Jews, or in the 1910s about womens suffrage, or in the 1880s tub thumping about Irish immigration, or in the 1860s talking about emancipation -- each time insisting this would destroy the country and bring down God's wrath.

We'll always have the documents they wrote, but there is something so much more tangible hearing it from their own mouths, with the braggadocio that seems to always go with your really first rate bigot.

And the thing is, it's always the same guy. That Guy has been with us since we first came down from the trees, and he always will be. We just have to remember, point, and laugh.

Who knew Bob was running for President? He could have told us he was Ted Cruz all along.

EDIT: Meanwhile the GOP alternative to Obamacare a.k.a. "Don't Get Sick" is alive and well.

Yikes.

Maybe it's time to admit the "extremists" in the GOP actually are the GOP.

Oh Kep, the enlightened ones have known that for quite a while. Boner and the GOP are a little too good at hijacking movements, such as the Taxed Enough Already party.

Like some of us have been trying to tell you, this isnt the old days where the crazy vocal minority had no power...the crazies have money and money equals power. The airheads with money have made sure that the only conservatives left would never go moderate on anything. Unlike in years past where no one knew or paid attention to what candidates said now we know and see everything so when the loonies talk (or when the establishment guys try and woo the crazies) it is front and center and they cant hide. Then as they walk it back they look like frauds to both sides.

Stop waiting for the GOP Candidates to unDerp cause it aint happening. That is why my conservative friends refuse to vote GOP anymore.

Re: Campaign 2016 - A Trump l'oeil? Kepler's Laws of Election Motions? Ship of Fools

I admitted that a long time ago, Kep. ;)

Weirdly, I had not.

I have always believed the GOP was simply a corporation whose business model is the transfer of wealth from the poor and middle class to their "shareholders," a couple hundred wealthy family donors. That imputes mere greed rather than religious or social ideology to the "board members" who actually run the corporation; all religious and social values promulgated by the company are just fly paper to catch voters without whom they would be unable to gain election and control over the country's public resources.

But moves like this suggest the board also wants to use the company to enforce their religious and social preferences, something you wouldn't see with say Coke or GM. I don't think Priebus is stupid, so it may simply be the price the board has to pay to keep its Deranged Billionaire donors happy. In other words, it may be intra-party politics.

Regardless, we don't usually see the RNC and/or other Republican politburo entities (Club for Growth, FreedomWorks, Heritage Action, etc) make these kind of mistakes. Maybe the lack of leadership and strategy on the right goes well beyond the party and has started to infect the policy feeder network. That's bad -- it makes them very vulnerable because it removes their ability to critique themselves, something that hitherto the righty establishment was brilliant at.

I will admit that recent moves at the party level combined with the dominance of the dumbest of the candidates makes it look like you might be right. I am just having a lot of trouble wrapping my mind around the idea that these Frankensteins didn't expressly plan for how to defend against their monsters taking over the castle. There is an incredible amount of money at stake. How much were they able to steal in the 30 years between Reagan and Dubya, $20 trillion or so, just from tax policy, not even counting the bailout? Maybe another $5 trillion or so in deregulation (not even counting externalities like environmental damage)?

The Republican party from the time of Reagan to the present has been the most successful criminal organization in history. How could they blow it?

F#ckabee opens his mouth, inserts... well probably his own dick.

"When I hear people scream, 'black lives matter,' I'm thinking, 'Of course they do.' But all lives matter. It's not that any life matters more than another," Huckabee told Blitzer. "That's the whole message that Dr. King tried to present, and I think he'd be appalled by the notion that we're elevating some lives above others."

My question about these guys is, do they really not get it, or are they just playing to the crowd?

In the case of Huckleberry, he's said so many bizarre and clueless things over the years that I think he may be sincere. But my guess is most righty politicians know exactly what BLM is saying and they deliberately choose to fan the flames of ignorance for political gain.
