Yeah, all that free trade with the Middle East has kept us out of a lot of wars. As for college the US has ripped the Middle Class apart while at the same time destroying the buying power of kids just out of college who are the replacements for the middle class. Good Economic plan there. Let's give another tax break to oil companies while we're at it.

I think the amount of student debt has a lot to do with it too. Trouble is when you make things free, people don't appreciate them as much as if you have to "earn" it. Will we end up with a lot of Van Wilders?

With which Middle East countries do we have significant trade prior to 2003? Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Turkey, Egypt, and Israel. Which of those nations did we invade?

How do we pay for a "free" college education? Does each public university get absorbed wholly by the US government and run by Washington? Are we eliminating the competition between schools now to best one another in their academic pursuits? How do we control the cost increases? Will the qualified PhDs continue to work at those universities when you tell them that their wages have just been frozen on behalf of Uncle Sam? How does that help our middle class when the good professors either leave academia altogether or only accept private school positions?

How does Bernie account for all of this?

He's a bit (!) of a blowhard, but it looks like Howie Carr is firmly in the tank for Trump. Or, he thinks the rest of the field is a joke.

Saw that today, and the Chris "Krispy Creme" Christie line was topped only by the "RINO-industrial complex" now pushing Kasich. :D

Wait? You read the Herald? I had you as a true blue Glober (which I only read for the front page / obits/ Red Sox coverage). I generally only skim the news on the Herald and read the Sox stuff.

Ask Germany. They give free college to not only their students but any foreigners as well that get accepted to their schools. If I had many years to plan ahead I'd send my kids there.

Which one of those is spending anywhere near what we are for their security?

Moving the goal posts much?

I suppose if there's any of them that spend more on their own defense than we do on them it might be Jordan. And that's iffy.

If you're suggesting that I support such a thing, you're mistaken.

Business section and sports are pretty good. Globe isn't a very well written paper although they've gotten a bit better it seems since they got out from under the NYT and got sold to the Sox owner.

I didn't believe the person behind that was actually 15 until I saw him identify himself as a Libertarian.

Howie likes to stir the pot, it helps his radio show. He is all in for trump because of illegals.

Re: Campaign 2016 - A Trump l'oeil? Kepler's Laws of Election Motions? Ship of Fools

I love how people go straight for the "underwater basketweaving" farce whenever education is talked about like somehow everyone is getting degrees in nothing. It is absurd but it is always the go to hyperbolic statement.

And while STEM is important so are the arts (ask Neil DeGrasse Tyson) and considering how pathetic most people are on the subject, Civics is pretty important too. Not everyone can be a scientist or engineer.

There are outliers to be sure but the vast majority of people in this country received free education and the dips are mostly the result of bad parenting not ingratitude toward the system.

Just when I thought John Kasich was someone with sensible positions, avoiding knee-jerk pandering to the right-wing American Taliban, he comes up with this:
“If I were, not president, if I were king in America, I would abolish all teachers’ lounges where they sit together and worry about ‘woe is us’,” Kasich told Brown.

Nice job of focusing on America's real problems.:rolleyes:

Has anyone seen the Waldo episode of Black Mirror? A cartoon character used to bash politicians becomes incredibly popular and enters the race as a joke, but then starts to actually build a voter base. That's what this entire Trump ordeal has felt like.

On the other hand, Biden reminds me a lot of Roger Sterling from Mad Men, and who wouldn't want a president throwing out epic one liners every speech?

@VoteDeezNuts16: There are two Americas -- the Left and the Right. Only one candidate unites both sides in a single package.

Vote Deez Nuts. #2016election

A man of logic! /sarcasmfontforthewaytooseriousliberals

Think of the party whose nom he's running for. He's gotta build herpa-derp street cred.

Yeah, that's why we should make people pay for the emergency room. Otherwise they won't appreciate it.

I'm not moving goalposts. I'm pointing out the dirty little secret about free trade deals. Deals that for the most part only improve the 1%ers lives.
