Just fired up the DVR. Props to Fox for making it super awkward for as long as possible by making them stand next to each other for that long. That was awesome.

If fiorina won, I think we should implement an EPL-style relegation.

Man Ted Cruz is a complete phony. He just comes off like a complete dingus.

Kasich isn't ready for prime time but he's got potential. Seems fairly purple.

Cruz, trump, huckabee, and a couple of others are just bat**** insane.

And then he seemingly gives trump a reach around.

I like Rand Paul a lot at times.

I wish he had taken the bait on the Neocon question and gone to town on them. I know he can't do that in front of an RNC hand-selected crowd, but that would have been an authentic moment of speaking truth to power.

Talk about a punchable face. It's like they called up to central casting, "send me down an Upper Class Twit of the Year."

I also love that his mouth moves just like the Canadians on South Park.

But I agree, here he's supposed to be the one bright bulb in a low wattage junk box, and he didn't distinguish himself in any way at all. To be honest the only guys who came across as having anything above the neck were Paul, Jeb!, and Kasich.

And my god, Christie's everybody's dumb gym coach. What a tool.

Pretty sure my poor grandfather would have a stroke. He loves Obama, and can't stand Hillary. He is convinced she's only going to win because she's a woman.

My dad, whose political stance is pretty much "don't touch my guns you niBONG" has to be freaking out now. Even HE didn't like the GOP choices last time around. He'll probably go for Trump (he went for Perot in the 90's because of his "I'll run the country like a business" gimmick.)

Yeah, but Christie is the only one who seems to get social security. Or at least what it's about. His fixed might not be ideal, but unlike everyone else he gets what it means.

Social security isn't a retirement plant. It's a safety net so that we don't have our older generation dying in the street in poverty. It's just enough to put a meal or two on the table every day and a roof over your head. Maybe not even that.

He knows there's a problem and the first thing you need to do is raise the age of collection (as it was originally designed to pay people who were close to the life expectancy at the time) and either cut benefits or raise taxes. His first instinct doesn't seem to be kill it like Huckabee.

I have to give him credit for that.

Rubio reminds me a little bit of Obama during the Kerry nomination convention. He seems to be the future.

Well spoken and collected.

And then Rubio has to pander to the deep peddlers on abortion.

"When did you actually become a republican?" Hahahahahahaha

Re: Campaign 2016 - A Trump l'oeil? Kepler's Laws of Election Motions? Ship of Fools

So do I but I'm afraid he's a neocon like the rest

He's not a Neocon; he would be the best of the bunch (including Hillary) on the Empire. He's got a libertarian antipathy to the state's Murder, Inc. racket.

On domestic policy he would be a disaster, but in truth a president can probably singularly affect foreign policy much more radically. If he faced a Democratic Congress he would be checked on his more loony schemes.

If he ran as a big L Libertarian I might give it a whirl. As a Republican he'd have to blow too many disgusting bedfellows to get to the top of the hill, so he's out.

He may not be a neocon but he will shift that way if he wants a chance.

So from coverage of the debate, here's some of the theme's I'm seeing:

1) Trump did his thing, which will be followed by pundidiots predicting his demise for the umpteenth time, only to watch in horror as his poll #'s rise.
2) Lamestream media seems desperate to pump of Jebbers! even though he did nothing to distinguish himself.
3) Kasich is on his way to being annointed REPUBLICAN JESUS by the press, following President Huntsman and President Pawlenty in that regard.
4) Line of the night and most notable exchange goes to Rand Paul for creaming Christie with the "maybe you want to give Obama another big hug" line during the Patriot Act squabble. Runner-up is Trump's Rosie O'Donnell remark...
5) Rubio "looking polished and speaking clearly" + 50 cents will get him a newspaper, and nothing else.

Re: Campaign 2016 - A Trump l'oeil? Kepler's Laws of Election Motions? Ship of Fools

I found it interesting how Fox asked the questions. They were picking winners and losers by the questions they asked and how they asked them. They obviously want Trump out of there. There was plenty of war on women without bringing up Trump's comments about them. They have a man crush on Jeb.

Schumer has come out against the Iran deal. Sticking the knife in Obama AND bolstering idiots like Lindsey Graham and John McCain.

Jon Stewart left us last night. It was a tearful farewell. The highlight was John Oliver coming out and then Colbert. What Colbert did for a Thanks to Jon Stewart was about as good as it gets. Thank goodness Berkley Breathed is back to feed that need. I hope the new kid can keep the show afloat. It's an important institution in my mind.
