Re: Campaign 2016 - A Trump l'oeil? Kepler's Laws of Election Motions? Ship of Fools

So some pundidiot in the WSJ is stating that Dems had better fear a Bush-Kasich ticket, and a Kasich-Rubio ticket even more! First of all Kasich has little chance of being the nominee, so you might was well say Dems should fear that possible Reagan's Ghost-Jebbers! ticket.

But to the larger point, Bush-Kasich is not a good combo. VP picks rarely win you a state (LBJ being most notable) but what they can do is give you a positive buzz if they help balance out the ticket or signify something new. Biden and Cheney were older DC lifers balancing out youngsters. Gore gave Clinton additional ammo that the Dems were throwing off old dinosaurs and moved on to a new generation.

Bush and Kasich are each other. Two 60 something year old white guys who have been around for decades. Not exactly signifying a "new dawn" nor a pull back from their War on Women (and minorities).

I disagree. Politeness has to do with treating people kindly. PC is finding an issue where none should exist, or renaming something because some bit of its history has caused people to take pause. We've always known that Columbus Day was celebrated in honor of a very flawed man, yet now some think we have to change the name of the holiday. PC is changing the job title of "janitor" to "custodial engineer" because it sounds nicer, or banishing the use of "retard" when it's used in its true and accurate meaning because some have taken to using it in a perjorative manner.

I disagree. The difference between polite and PC is who's getting slagged. It was all OK when only the right people were being insulted, but God help you if you insulted the wrong ones (religious believers, Our Brave Lads, mothers, American Heroes, etc...).

Miller's coming at it from a comedic POV, and comedy is very different -- there should not be any filters on jokes except for: "is it funny?" Part of the humor of cruel humor IS the cruelty, because the joke within the joke is it makes fun of the kind of psycho who would actually say something nasty seriously. So comics get different rules. But Miller is mistaking the censorship of comedy, which is bad, with the normal change over time of what in society you can say. Miller's just mad the world's passed him by, which is part and parcel of the anti-PC shtick. The only people who need to grow a pair are the ones who are upset they can't make racist or sexist jokes anymore. Their world's gone, and good riddance.

Depends on how much of Hillary's foot is filled with buckshot after she finishes shooting it.

Jerry Seinfeld is about as bland as comedy comes, and yet he won't go to college campuses because of the PC mindset. Same for Chris Rock (save for the bland).

"What people call PC my grandmother just called being polite."
Has there ever been a time in the history of the world where the older generation wasn't being ****y about the younger generation not having the same values or how they are focusing on something they consider a ridiculous non-issue?

**** Miller for making excuses for Trump and the slime like him. Trying to treat intolerance of bigotry as bigotry itself is just an attempt at trying to make the words meaningless so business can continue as usual.

As I said, comedy is different.

Anyway, I would ban Seinfeld just cause he sucks.

Robert Conquest’s Three Laws of Politics:

1. Everyone is conservative about what he knows best.
2. Any organization not explicitly right-wing sooner or later becomes left-wing.
3. The simplest way to explain the behavior of any bureaucratic organization is to assume that it is controlled by a cabal of its enemies.

The first two are the righty circle jerk but the third is actually quite funny.

I followed through to the article about WND finding Obama's "Kenyan demonic spirit". Good Lord those people sometimes make Freepers look sane.

There's a lot of cray cray out on the righty tar plains. It's sinking slowly into the sunset, but in the couple decades we have left we're still going to get a lot of entertainment out of it.

And who knows -- the next strain of conservatism may be even more virulent, so we should just enjoy what we've got.

You're correct, though you're giving very mild examples of PC. Politeness has as much to do with PC as Arsenal fans do with Spurs fans.

No way these extreme positions don't come back to bite them in the general election, which is why Hillary is loving life right now. Listening to NPR last night over the fake planned parenthood videos, pro-choice people are finally calling out the anti-choice nutters on air and have stopped being polite. Even better, while I usually use the term "Talibanesque" to describe conservatives desire to force rape victims to have their attackers child, this panelist did me one better and called it Sharia Law!!! :D

The Fundies want Christian Sharia, but despite their noise they're in the minority by about 70-30. It always takes a while for the moral middle of America to wake up to the threat of the Thumpers, but when they do they always send them packing for another 75 years until the next outbreak.

The louder the Christiban are, the better for us in 2016. This isn't 1982; those numbnuts aren't running things anymore.

That article talks about Walker and Rubio. Fact is, Cruz is even more extreme. And they're all hypocrites.

But you were just saying we control things. Make up your mind which way your paranoia should work.
