I can't even remember what make of car I drive. Sh-t all looks the same to me.

Would it make sense for us to be United on the way over and American on the way back? The layover on the way over was PHX.

Like I said: cars, clothes, planes, equipment -- it's all just fungibles. I have literally no memory of who makes anything. I still don't recognize the Toyota logo and I drive a Toyota. I think.

I recognize Nissan, though.

No, if you connected in PHX (former US Airways hub) and DFW, odds are 99.9% you were on American both ways.

I mean jeez, did Doc Mrs. organize your travel, or are you really just that much of a Marxist? Or pretending to be one to seem cool at your age?

AAL 787s have the "reverse herringbone" pattern first class in 1-2-1 layout, just like Delta A330s. Which better describes your impression.

But the sad thing is even when I do all the arranging, while I am aware of things at the time they are in front of me unless I write them down I forget them moments after. I have no brand* object permanence. This isn't cool, it's inconvenient. If I like a certain rum, or razor, or rice, I have to write it down immediately. I won't forget the brand, I will forget the fact of the brand -- that it even exists. Imagine if everything you consumed in your life was a first time guess.

* And it's not just brands, it's varieties. I like certain nuts and I don't like others. I know this from years of trials. But which are which? Search me. I know I like peanuts, but everything else -- walnuts, macadamia nuts, pine nuts -- no, that's not right, I know pine nuts like I know peanuts. And like them. Almon-- sh-t, I know those too.

Nuts I could recognize without guessing: pea, pine, almonds,
Nuts I can never, ever remember: wall, macademia, pecans, hazel, chest, filbert (I don't believe anyone can recognize a filbert)

Is an acorn a nut? I know what an acorn is. I remember trying to eat them with a friend when we were about 8, and not liking them but that might have been the dirt or the ants.

I'm pretty sure it's a mental deficiency.

In the end, I'm of the opinion that how you got there is all flash (even if I'm occasionally guilty of it). What matters is what you did there.

What we did was amazing. If you've never been, go. Just leave a minimum of the days so you can really get into the flow. It also helps to go with Brazilians who know how to party. That pretty much helps everything, though -- I want to take them to the DMV as a test.

What we did was amazing. If you've never been, go. Just leave a minimum of the days so you can really get into the flow. It also helps to go with Brazilians who know how to party. That pretty much helps everything, though -- I want to take them to the DMV as a test.

Hawaii is coming someday, but I'm looking at Europe for late summer-fall this year.

Not a virgin to the UK, but I am a virgin to mainland Europe, which is my target.

FWIW, ran a quick check on Flightaware, and I think it's more likely you were on a 777 - the F configuration still fits your description. Also, it seems to be the common aircraft running from HNL-DFW on American.

The rest of Asia is another matter, but Fade does not have a 10-yr visa for China (yet), and apparently getting a tourist visa for Vietnam is a lengthy process. So I'd be limited to micro-areas like Hong Kong and Singapore for now.

I thoroughly enjoyed England, both London and the countryside in the Lakes District (and an afternoon in Scotland) but in my limited experience it has a much different feel from continental Europe (and my travel on the Continent is limited). I definitely want to get back to Great Britain to do some backpacking in Wales or Scotland.

United flies a 767 for the 10 hr flight from HNL <-> IAD during the busy season. Man, was that a long flight

Funny story: we were in London with a USAF Col who has served time in India and we were eating in a little local Indian food dive in an Indian restaurant. His opinion: "half of India is trying to be England while this street is more Indian than 90% of India."

I agree. The overall culture and feel is much better on mainland.
English culture is a huge turnoff for me after living there.
