Re: Business, Economics & Tax Policy 5.0: Can a blind nut find a squirrel?

I'm sounding like a broken record, but our tax cut does that.

Not in any analysis I've seen. It reduces the burden more the higher up you are, AND it opens a new alley to make money at a lower rate (pass through companies).

It *seems* to reduce loopholes, but it makes a big new one. HUGE. One that I should retire and be my own business so that I can pay less taxes as my own corporation.

What's worse, there's zero evidence that the goal of this change will actually happen. Businesses don't need to invest in new stuff unless they have demand for new stuff- the money will go to share holders. Rich people already spend a lot of money, so having more really means they will save even more- taking MORE money out of circulation. None of this is good for the general economic model of a consumer based system.

Our meaning Kep and me.

Sorry, but you're playing the Republicans game by their rules. Republicans like that the tax code is confusing. Works to their advantage. That way they can sneak in massive tax cuts for the rich by saying "hey, everybody's getting a 4% reduction in their tax rate" while a willing and compliant national press corps overlooks the fact that the 50 bucks each middle class person gets is a bit lower than the 1M each billionaire gets.

Stop trying to monkey with rates with the exception of a hike on the top tier. Keep it simple. No "We're robbing Peter to pay Paul". More like "We're robbing Peter because he's received every tax break since 1981". Then limit deductions for high earners. Most people can wrap their minds around only deducting interest on a mortgage less than 1M dollars since few non-rich people have a mortgage for more than that.

Remember Howard Dean's mantra: Republicans want to tell you one thing they know about a couple of subjects (Taxes...BAD!!!). Dems want to tell you everything they know about every subject.

Re: Business, Economics & Tax Policy 5.0: Can a blind nut find a squirrel?

“After careful thought and consideration, I have decided to support the Senate tax reform bill. I believe this legislation, though far from perfect, would enhance American competitiveness, boost the economy, and provide long overdue tax relief for middle class families,” McCain said in a statement.

McCain buys the lies. Sad. All things considered them destroying Obamacare was a better result than this tax cut.

Re: Business, Economics & Tax Policy 5.0: Can a blind nut find a squirrel?

From the hill: The Senate GOP sent out a tweet announcing that their tax bill has passed even though the final vote is still hours or days away and the final bill has yet to be drafted.

Hahah break out the champagne!

Clearly someone already did. ;)

You know the GOP tax plan is bad when (conservative writ epic) talk show host Mark Levin is ripping it to shreds as horrible and lies.

Disagree on this one. Healthcare = people's lives. As in the earliest anybody could have gotten their insurance restored would have been 4 years later.

This gimmicky tax crap can and should be repealed and Dems need to run on that, but borrowing money for a few years to pay for tax cuts for billionaires is somewhat less damaging than kicking 30M people off of their insurance coverage.

We won't be able to repeal the tax cuts, especially if they get their estate windfall.

The tax structure is really the only thing matters. Everything springs from the decision of whether we have a strong middle class or we have a plutocracy. The former means equality, prosperity, and a morally healthy nation. The latter is the sh-tshow we've had since the 1980s, a nation run entirely for the wealthy, where every honest virtue is shouted down by the braying of the ownership class.

I hate to go to the well cause Kepler hates me for this but it's the only way people learn. The tax cut will not educate the voter base. Having their Health Care ripped away will.

Except it won't. Republican policies have destroyed the white working class. During that time the white working class has gravitated to the Republican party.

They will never learn. Look at the GOPers who post here. They aren't rich -- rich people have better things to do than post here. Many of them aren't even stupid. Think they're gonna learn? And I mean any of them?

We already know the punishment of GOP policies will not change white working class minds because we have a 40-year track record of that already occurring. Their media will always have a lie or an excuse handy and they'll wind up blaming the Dems.

If they weren't going to do that they would already have sussed it out.

Then all hope is lost. I figured this time they would learn because there was a lot of "noise" when the GOP was trying to rip away Health Care that just isn't happening with the tax cut.

No. They are lost. The hope is to out vote them and out breed them. And I had one kid, while they probably have six each cuz Baby Jesus.

I thought the Demographics were on the Democratic side? Latinos (sans Cuban Americans) should be all Democrats at this point. They breed faster than the orcs.

That's a really long game, Scoob. Demographics mean we win by 2050. But in the meantime the GOP Nuremberg Laws reduce citizenship to white male Christians so it won't matter anyway.

Re: Business, Economics & Tax Policy 5.0: Can a blind nut find a squirrel?

They're never gonna "learn" because they don't want to and are too brainwashed to realize it's their own party screwing them over.

Also the reason we don't support Trump is because his policies clearly hurt people and cheering it on like Scooby keeps doing is morally repugnant, especially when you consider that it clearly hurts people who voted for Hillary and definitely didn't support Trump.

LOL. It's just hilarious how wishing the voting public got what they voted for is somehow morally repugnant. Meanwhile apparently it's not morally repugnant to vote for them in the first place.

Nice setup.

Re: Business, Economics & Tax Policy 5.0: Can a blind nut find a squirrel?

Not everyone voted for it, what is so hard to understand about that?
