Business, Economics & Tax Policy 5.0: Can a blind nut find a squirrel?

I know these people are out there. Supposedly the whole Pepe thing is these people -- genuine nihilists, that rarest of things.

But I still think they're posers living in Mom's basement. These guys may read Alan Moore but they aren't Alan Moore. The second the central heating switches off they're going to be wailing for all the old symbols of institutional "oppression" to save their soft behinds.

It's not the belligerence of the alt-right I mind. It's the pusillanimity.

How come nobody lives in Dad's basement?

I don't know, but have a feeling the bitcoin surge is directly related to the likelihood of the US dollar evaporating.

It's more like Dutch tulips or beanie babies.

It's clearly a bubble. The question is when it pops.

Re: Business, Economics & Tax Policy 5.0: Can a blind nut find a squirrel?

Rubio spills the beans: tax bill is just an excuse to slash Medicare and Social Security.

The Republicans have wanted to destroy the safety net since the beginning. For 80 years they have been on the wrong side of every issue of economic justice.

I know they're morons but please send the link to your loved one Republican Olds. Maybe they have just enough brainpower left to see that this is their death senten---

Never mind. Forget what I said. Let it lie.

Or, you could just not do tax cuts.

Oh, silly me.

The Red/Green tax plan will get a majority of votes around the country. Can the Dr. Mrs. plant a seed in the manure on the Hill to see if it sprouts?

Oh, silly me.

The Republicans always use the middle class as a human shield to hide their cuts on the wealthy. I do not understand why when the GOP pulls their sh-t the Dems don't call their bluff.

So the GOP says let's cut taxes on 70-100k from 28 to 26 and 1M+ from 38 to 32.

The Dems should say, no, let's cut taxes on 70-100k from 28 to 24, and raise taxes on 1M+ from 38 to 40 to pay for it.

Hmmm...Dems are pretty outspoken about opposing all this as a giveway to the rich from Sanders all the way to Manchin. It was up to Democratic voters to make a stand was in November, either by taking the WH or the Senate (or both). Hope all those 3rd party and Trump votes were worth it. Is anybody really surprised by this? Yes many Gooper reps may get voted out, but they'll simply go work as lobbyists afterwards for the same industries pushing these tax giveaways in the first place.

You ignored my question. You actually seem like a pretty good spokesman for the standard DNC way of doing things. Why don't we answer every GOP tax proposal with one of our own where we snip off the top earners' tax cut and return the savings with additional benefits to the middle class?

I have wondered about this since the 1980s. It's such an obvious way to gut the Republicans' insincere messaging about helping the middle and expose what their real agenda is.

Reagan's cut passed with broad bi-partisan support. RR wanted to eliminate the state tax deduction, but Pat Moynihan argued successfully to keep it.

Because you're already conceding the argument if you do that. That argument being "we need tax cuts". Once you grant that on a federal level, you're doomed. Then the discussion becomes who's "middle class" etc etc and the bill still gets loaded with corp giveaway goodies.

Kep, at this point everybody knows what the GOP agenda is. Even the people who vote for them and are getting screwed. They've made the decision to accept this massive theft under the theory that 1) it doesn't really affect them, and 2) its the price to pay in order to kick anybody with a tan and an accent out of the country. You keep trying to appeal to logic with the American right. It doesn't work.

The changes to the tax code need to revolve around making the wealthy pay more of their fair share. This is done by 1) raising the top rate, and 2) elimination some of the ways they use to shield income from taxes. Leave everyone else's taxes where they are. By doing this, you aren't playing the GOP's game where they claim that the whopping 50 extra bucks a year they gave to the middle class spurred an unrelated drop in the unemployment rate.

I'm sounding like a broken record, but our tax cut does that.
