Edit: "Trump held up a chart while speaking at the White House, showing the United States would charge a 34% tax on imports from China, a 20% tax on imports from the European Union, 25% on South Korea, 24% on Japan and 32% on Taiwan."

That has to be about 98% of all consumer goods bought by Americans. Nice.

And by hitting Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, the rest of the far East, it prevents American companies from taking the easy way out(and the way they're gonna try to do anyway, rather than build new production facilities here) and shift production to other non-tariffed countries.

Notice however, no tariffs on the lily-white former Russian domain eastern European states.
