Business, Economics, and Taxes: Eat Cereal for Dinner

Of course he was perp-walked in spectacular fashion.

Let me ask you guys this. How many people are shot in cold blood on the streets of NYC in any given year, or on the streets of any major metropolitan city, for that matter. Quite a few I'm thinking.

And on how many of those have the feds decided to step in to go after the defendant themselves. Not a whole lot, probably. Shooting deaths are typically handled locally.

They are going to try to make an example of Luigi. The State of NY and the Federal government are going to bring the entirety of their resources to bear on crushing him like a bug, to make an example of him.

Who does he have to thank for all of that? Every social media turd who made that boy their hero. Top notch work.

You think this is about him being praised on social media? Yeah I don't think so. If we are to believe that it is just as much because corporate media made this out to be the worst assassination since Kennedy. (Well except when Trump got his paper cut I guess) And in truth neither are the reason...it's cause he easily killed a rich douche while walking down the street and that is not acceptable. Plus, it happened in New York, not far from other rich pr!cos who are easily gettable. (Hence Adams and Hochul talking about CEO Trauma...phucking pathetic)

And how that justifies suspension of his rights I'm not exactly sure. The Mayor playing his little Reindeer Games is sad and disgusting.

I'm quite sure Mangione is gonna get strung up for murder. The terrorism charge is classic fed overreach to try and see if they can give him the needle. None of that makes Adams' actions any less nakedly self-serving and worthy of scorn.

No, they're going to make an example of him because he shot a health insurance exec, and the public cheered.

We can't be having the serfs thinking its ok to rise up against the masters. Gotta nip that shit in the bud, right now.

Edit: What Kepler said.

Good Lord what more can they do to him - make him feel more guilty?

After taking time away since the election, I slunk into Freerepublic this morning to lurk and see what that band of merry rednecks is yammering about. H-1B visas seem to be the hot topic of the day, with Elmo and Vivek Ramalamadingdong trying to stay Dump's hand. Freepers are not happy about that of course, they want all the darkies out.

Interesting report that Cognizant, a big competitor in my space, got nearly 7,000 H-1Bs approved this past year. Of course, ret@rded, racist Freepers think these jobs were "stolen" from young, white American men. They're also whining about low-level service jobs being filled by such work visa immigrants. I'm LOLing that they believe Americans will do them.

May they get *everything* they voted for.

I don’t know how cognizant runs things, but you know Americans could do some of not all those 7k jobs. They just don’t want to pay market rate and you can fully enslave the visas

my last company refused to do H1s. We’d just offshore entire teams completely offshore lol

Oh there's a degree of BS going on for sure. Musk using H-B1 to fill roles at X in Accounting, for example. All the B school grads in this country and he can't find any American accountants to do the work? He just doesn't want to pay.

The boutique firms learned years ago that it's easier and cheaper to open offices over there and develop people, than it is to promise or offer senior top performers the chance to come to the States. Plus as silly as it is, it gives particularly IT shops a bit of cachet to say they have an India office for clients looking for lower rates. Like you've really established yourself as a company if you're offshoring the overnight and weekend grunt work.

A bit of bs? I know most people here want to believe layoffs are not bad, economy is buzzing but there are still a lot of white collar layoffs particularly in IT. I know 3 high level engineers in their 50s laid off in the last month. Many of my colleagues have been out of work since oct 23.
make them pay the h1s market rate and you’ll see them slow way down.

I believe you. I see skilled IT and OCM people in my LinkedIn feed who've been unemployed for months. I'm just not convinced H-1B visa shenanigans are that big of a factor in the grand scheme of things. If my clients are any indication, I think many companies are simply flogging their layoff survivors for more hours. They don't want to pay market rates, investors demand profits, and so they are hanging on for a recession to flatten the labor market. I can barely get a few hours per week with my key stakeholders and decisionmakers. It's expected that workshops to gather requirements will be broken up into multiple sessions over several days, to say nothing of the challenge of keeping attendees consistently and actively engaged when you're delivering remotely.

Within my niche, I get a ton of contract jobs thrown my way. I even have recruiters reaching out for part-time subcontract work for competitors (which I can't do, even if I wanted to). But I don't see very many full-time roles pitched in the last year, furthering my theory that companies are freezing FTE hiring and trying to get by with contractors until a recession hits.

My point was more that Elmo and friends will greatly increase layoffs if the quota is removed

I have a masters degree from a very good school and ma y years of good performance at a fortune 4. I’m beginning to wonder if I’ll ever get a job again.

This is true. In a big way. A lot of Indians getting jobs in my sector. A lot. And they mostly live over there.
