Wendy’s now says we alll misunderstood their surge pricing and that they only intended to lower prices at certain times

Translation: oh shit, the backlash was way worse than anticipated, time to back track. (but we are still going to creep the price up to a higher price which will be the new normal and then that lower price will be the old price during the slow times).

Despite its concentration in Wisconsin (10% of its restaurants), Culver's is not nearly as prevalent in the Midwest (or the US) as Wendy's. You'll pass roughly 6 Wendy's, 7 Burger King's, and 13 McDonald's before stumbling upon a Culver's.

While this is very true...the only way to improve on the issues of EVs is to continue to develop them and for that we need to upgrade the grid.

Updating the grid would be nice but I'm afraid all business is using the Sports Model for major upgrades and improvements. And that Model is, get the customers to pay for it through Government Taxes so they can milk maximum profits off the billing for their product.

Honest question…why would any of you in the Midwest go to Wendy’s when you have Culver’s?

Culver’s is plenty good, but their service is slow and more expensive. Wendy’s is better than the McD’s/BK stuff, but not so much as to require the time Culver’s does. And people are in a hurry.

The country should be more focused on affordable and consistent public transport rather than more car culture.

That is never going to happen...you are right it should but it won't.

And Culver's sucks. Yeah I said it. SUCKS!

Should be, but never will be in most parts of the country. Michigan had an opportunity to spend over a billion dollars on transportation a few years back, and used it to add a HOV lane to I-75 in the Detroit suburbs, instead of investing it in light rail and/or busses. As long as the auto industry is here, it'll be ever thus.

Get on the snake, with a swarm of motor flies
Get on the snake, under the cola-colored sky
No don't worry, everything's clean
Road-worthy, hungry, and mean

Culver's is a nice "Top Tier" quick serve burger chain for me. Definitely a regular stop when I'm on the road, but as mentioned, it is a bigger time commitment than a McD's/BK/Wendy's. Also probably 20% more in cost.

Overall I do think they are significantly cleaner than those other chains as well...

I don't think it sucks but it's definitely wickedly over rated. Same thing with Lion's Tap.

Give me MyBurger, their sri racha mayo and seasoned fries any day over any others such as Smash and 5 Guys.

While I'm not sure on the timeline, part of that may have had to do with the prior state administration or because of the federal funding / matching funds.

I do agree that more public transportation investment is needed. An expansion/change to the People Mover would be nice now that the main draw to using it is closed and demolished. It doesn't connect to any points of interest other than Greektown.

In a SimCity/Skylines world, the People Mover would link up the Pizza Box, CoPa, Ford Field, Greektown, (existing downtown stops), then swing out to MGM, up to Midtown, and back down the Cass Corridor to LCA. And it would have multiple train cars so you're only waiting a couple minutes.

I'm honestly impressed with the push back MDOT got for the proposed widening of I-94 and M-14. They're absolutely right that light rail from Ann Arbor into the City is needed. Ann Arbor, Ypsi, Willow Run Airport, Detroit Metro, and then express into a metro station somewhere around the Ambo Bridge / JLA that links up to the People Mover?

Fly in. Catch a football game or games, or hockey game, eat in Greektown, and fly out without needing to rent a car?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's directly Whitmer's fault. Her hands are tied, to an extent. That stretch of I-75 was past EOL and needed a total concrete chew-and-replace anyway, plus they mitigated the big curve at 9 Mile so it's no longer as sharp/dangerous. It's just annoying not to have equivalent expenditures on methods to reduce freeway traffic and improve regional transit options. Like you said, the Ann Arbor-to-Detroit corridor along I-94, including a stop at DTW, makes the most sense for any light rail efforts to begin.

Got 5100 miles on my last tank.

That's amazing. A ton of my driving lately has been in the 100-150 mile round trip range with no chance for a charge in between so my efficiency hasn't been stellar. But with my new job starting in April, "driving to work", when it happens, will be a 5 mile round trip instead of 100+.

But even with these longer drives, if my battery is full at start, I'm averaging ~40 mpg on 100+ mile round trips. In an SUV with a turbo that weighs a whole lot.

Part of that goes back on these agencies and how they can get funding. A large scale rebuild/reconstruction could take a decade to go from paper to shovel. Especially if the priority level is low or funding sources can't be secured right away.

That's why in 2009 during the Obama TIGER recovery effort a lot of those projects were "shovel ready."

Yeah it's definitely helped I've been driving primarily between two places about 20 miles apart, and one has a fast charger. I wouldn't pretend any other normal random itinerary would be quite that good. But being able to knock off 25 miles or so of gas sure doesn't hurt!

It sure doesn't! I get about 35 miles on a full charge in the cold and upwards of 44-45 in the summer. It's funny to watch my trip mpg go from like 300+ to 41.2 or whatever on some drives to and from gigs.

Burgers: Culver's > 5 Guys > Freddie's > DQ = BK = Wendy's > Hardee's > McDonalds = Sonic > White Castle

Fries: BK old > Freddie's > DQ > Wendy's > Hardee's = McDonalds = Sonic > 5 Guys >> Culver's

That's the conundrum.

(I don't remember Sonic's and I can't remember ever having White Castle's. BK used to have brilliant fries. I can still taste them when I think about it. Their current fries probably fall in the middle.)
