I'd like to think eventually the ownership class will learn after enough of these events

Have you met them?

The only thing they understand is

Owners will never learn...look at the movie studios as the ultimate proof.

No kidding. Writers asked for 50M over a year, and WB cried they were losing 300M in one month alone.

This isn't about the money, it's about the power. I really can't wait for these independents like A24 to just continue hitting home run after home run but now with the addition of "named" talent.

A24 is doing just fine without named talent.

If the guys on strike are typical of the kind of writing that comes out of Hollywood, keep them on the picket lines forever. I support their cause but if the brain-meltingly cliche scripts of 98% of Hollywood movies are indicative of their talent, send them back to Princeton for law school, we don't need them.

This strikes me more as a smart play than a stupid one.

If you're planning a layoff, most states have a bunch of rules around notifications, timing, responsibilities, etc. Plus they'd likely pay severance.

Orrrrrrrr... they could do the exact thing that will get a huge chunk of their staff to quit all on their own, which absolves the company of any of that.

You mean, 'anything for a buck' is the driving force for everything that happens in American business?

Shocked, shocked I tell you. Glad you're finally realizing it.

Huge hack at MGM Resorts. Everything is down, from website to scheduling to slot machines to room keys. Unsure if it's just the Vegas-based resorts or all of them (probably all of them).

Wow. This is going to cost them literally billions per day until it's restored.

As someone who has experienced this firsthand I’m sure they’ll quickly pay the ransom and then copy their backup data on to new servers. I would bet within a few days to a week they are back up and running.

The price on cyber policies has gone through the roof in the last couple years but I would guess a company their size has something.

It's astonishing to me that hotel bookings, room keys, etc. aren't air gapped from gaming.

Ok, i knew MGM was massive but I failed to understand the true scope. They have 48,000 rooms on the strip. As swansong mentioned, room keys are affected. My god. Imagine not being able to access your rooms at that scale.

It's believable. All summer, I've actually been using my phone as a room key while staying at hotels for my fishing tournaments. So you know that it's hackable and/or subject to computer "issues" (malicious or not).
