Watched Frontline's "The Power Of The Fed" this am. It's about their response to the Covid crisis. Guess who's benefitting from all the money they've pumped into the financial system.

I believe the show repeats this Friday.

Is the answer Jesus?

I always assume Bass Pro, Orvis, and Cabela's are charging the price their target demo - upper middle class suburban dads just getting into fly fishing or prepping for a guided hunting trip - will pay. Which means they are almost always 10-20% overpriced.

Yep. They are able to charge higher for convenience. But they also know that most of their customers are unaware of many other options. These people don't see the entire marketplace, just what is in their neighborhood. It also helps that some of their biggest spenders are 70+ and firmly believe that computers are the devil, even today.

Orvis is actually a good place to watch for the clearance on discontinued/old models of stuff. They don't like to sit on old gear so they blow it out at 50-70% off. They have had rods that were selling for $900 a month prior get cleared out at under $300 out the door. Part of that may be simply because they actively pursue the "How much did YOU spend?" dick measuring clientele for most of their revenue while the gear is current. They have already made their profit, so just get rid of the leftovers.

Ah yes, the adult hockey league players who never skated as a kid. I used to know a lot of those guys. Every year they had the top of the line skates…usually to keep them from bending their ankles.

Even Louis XVI is like "damned you might want to give a little to the poors!"

I wonder what the opera about the fall of America will be...I hope Lin-Manuel Miranda writes it!

(off topic but damn In The Heights was great!)

COVID is screwing with the markets so badly Sean Hannity of all people is urging people to get vaccinated. Corporate Masters don't like losing money...

Don't give him that much credit. Someone on Twitter pointed out that the segment immediately before his plea to get vaccinated was a bit just sowing doubt in the vaccine, and the segment immediately after his plea was a story of a young girl who died weeks after getting a (non-Covid) vaccine.

A few people pointed out that seeing the network 180 on their stance isn't going to sway their loyal viewers to get vaccinated. Instead, it's just going to make those viewers suspicious that the "deep state" has gotten a hold of the network.

I don't think it's the market that has them spooked. I think the lawyers told Murdoch he probably doesn't want to be the next Sackler.

The Sacklers pretty much got off scot-free. They entered into some settlement agreements but they're still filthy rich - no admission of wrongdoing, certainly no jail time. I'm not sure what Murdoch would be worried about. It's just money and he's got plenty.
