Business, Economics, and Taxes 2: That's Why We Fight to Take the Means Back

getting an interview is huge! That's great news.
There's a zillion pieces of advice one can find online about how to answer questions, but I'd say to stress this one basic thing that so many forget: research the company (and your interviewer, if you know who they are) and come with a few good questions! If all else fails, ask what a successful candidate would look like six months in.

not sure exactly what kind of tech, but I've had brilliant U of M engineers show up to my interview dressed in a flannel shirt and khakis. Look neat and professional. Most of the candidates will likely have the skills to meet the role technically, so those in person skills will set him apart.

and above all else, pray the interviewer isn't a sconnie or a nodak
This is great advice. I just met with an undergrad yesterday and gave similar advice (know as much as you can about the company/med school you are interviewing at to appear interested and dress sharp).

My only quibble is that (most of) us sconnies have much more in common with you all from Minnesota than you think, as long as you avoid 80% of our state :)

No defense of nodak however

Sorry I should have worded that better - he's good on all that I was thinking more about his chosen field since you seem to have had a lot of experience at least some what relatedly.

yeah I also spent years doing hundreds of on campus interviews so it is def an area I know well

kep,
Europe's job market is trash right now. they're starting to close some of the doors, and entry level would be really tough over there. as someone fluent in a language it's nearly impossible unless you're a Phd. starting at an international company and transferring there may be easier path right now. but we are not a serious country so hopefully we can create some more permanent paths out

It doesn't exist. Between Ann Arbor and Boulder, you'll be hard pressed to find a greater concentration of Kumbaya singing, wake-n-baking, left-wing thinking than Dane County.

Just stay out of Verona to avoid the tech bros. Fortunately the smell of Axe body spray gives them away.

So the Prairie is so bad even its college towns are MAGAt?

That's... yeah, that aint great, I don't think I'd like that shit.

Every state I have ever lived in bordered the Atlantic (NY, MA, MD, VA) or the Pacific (CA, OR) except for AZ. I don't think I missed much, TBH. Though I love NM and CO and I would love UT if it were not for the kooks.

If the college/university is large enough, the town’s voting outcomes are more liberal. Not all of the schools are large enough to sway the outcomes for their precincts.

The 6 counties in Iowa that are still reliably blue have the 3 college towns (Iowa City, Ames, Cedar Falls) and the three cities (Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Davenport). Iowa City is the most liberal of those 6 areas, but Des Moines isn't too far behind.

Omaha is obviously Nebraska's blue dot. Lincoln is slowly getting bluer but not as much as you'd expect for a college and government town.

Kansas has the Kansas portion of Kansas City and Lawrence. Wichita is a lost cause. No clue about the Little Apple Manhattan

No clue about the Dakotas.

TBH this is also true of such Prairie strongholds as OR and NY. "The idiocy of the countryside" isn't just Voltaire being a prick.

If there was anywhere in the US where rural voters were more progressive than suburban it would be the Black Belt, but even there there seem to be enough Cletus the Slackjawed Yokels to make it derpy.

Blondes for miles, lake country everywhere, more hockey than you could ever possibly try to watch, blue for decades, clean environment, people that can read and value education, more theater seats per capita than anywhere outside NYC, some of the best museums...

Seriously I'd take a cabin on just about any lake over one on an ocean.
