Fixed that for you.
:D

In non-Coronavirus/Stock Market news... Boeing's recommendation for owners of 787 aircraft? A standard joke among IT professionals and non-IT professionals: Did you try turning it off and back on again?
According to the directive itself, if the aircraft is powered on for more than 51 days this can lead to "display of misleading data" to the pilots, with that data including airspeed, attitude, altitude and engine operating indications. On top of all that, the stall warning horn and overspeed horn also stop working.
How is Boeing still a company?

The only advantage of movies over big screen at home is teens still use it as an excuse to get away from their parents, ditch the movie, and screw. Although presumably that's tweens, now.

I'll see a movie on the big screen if it has massive special effects, and/or I won't be able to avoid the hype. Even then, I go to the earliest Sunday showing at the theater. I've never encountered more than 6-7 others there at that time.

As for small businesses, some restaurants are doing ok (hint: the ones that don't really serve alcohol besides the bottle of beer or bottle of single serve wine). The ones who really rely on that profit margin...I'd be worried.

As for breweries (and this relates to that stimulus package), they have converted to curbside, added online ordering, and have added a delivery area for two reasons:
1. Customer service
2. Keeps their employees on the payroll

My go-to local brewery is using this time to remodel their interior, all done by employees, to also keep them on the payroll.

Thankfully, there is a grass-roots movement, so to speak, to keep going to the small businesses, to keep them alive through this. I've actually ordered MORE to-go food than I normally do, because I can, and I don't want to see these businesses close.

And you seemed to be implying that we'd do so much better now because........?

If its this bad and we haven't even hit the peak yet......

And with this administration "in charge"......

Outside of the admin we have multiple places working on a vaccine

So, a year from now things will be better?

Whew, that's a relief. How many dead by that time? My number from the beginning was half a million.

Just like the flu.

Re: Business, Economic, and Tax Policy 9: No, No, No, We Compost The Rich

US. I'm seeing projections that just Texas and Florida could top half a million

Gotta assume CA will lead us in the end. There are almost as many people in CA as in Spain.

Yeah I think the "theater is dead" theory is way off. I think a lot of smaller films will forgo theaters cause they make no money anyways but no way would Disney, WB, Sony or Universal take their huge blockbusters and go VOD with them. The amount of money lost would be astounding. Netflix is the gold standard of this stuff and they lose money by the bucketload.

The problem is you lose all the money on repeat business. (unless people are dumb enough to rent) If Avengers: Cause We Need More Money is released on Disney+ sure millions will watch. But most of them will already be members so there is no extra revenue gained. Even if Disney+ required you to buy it to watch it as a "premiere" of sorts you only have to buy it once you wont have to buy it again. (just like Amazon, Google Play or Apple) I could watch it 100 times for the one time only price. Whereas before people needed to pay multiple times (unless they had a subscription service...which is what killed MoviePass) to see it in the theater multiple times (bumping up the receipts) now there is nothing.

Not to mention VOD all but guarantees pirating almost overnight...

As long as the big studios need their tentpole films there will always be theaters.
Disney will follow the release plan like they did with “Onward”, the new Pixar movie. They linked to it on the Disney+ platform, but that would take users to amend where they could choose the service from which to buy it, like Amazon, for $20. My wife and I did that.

Re: Business, Economic, and Tax Policy 9: No, No, No, We Compost The Rich

That is how I figured it worked. And that is why I am saying it is a revenue loser. For you and your wife it is probably a wash but if you had 2 kids Disney just lost half the revenue of the sale. If the kids want to watch it again they lose that as well.

VOD is the equivalent of DVD sales...and with how much movies cost nowadays it just is not going to take over for theaters. Maybe when they figure out a new cost structure but that wont be for a while. Unless they all want to take major losses on films already made...

Not so sure. I think at least Cali is putting the measures in place to mitigate bad outcomes. Texas and Florida missed that window a long time ago.

Re: Business, Economic, and Tax Policy 9: No, No, No, We Compost The Rich

And the PPP that SJHovey was touting is a complete and total dumpster fire. Bank of America is denying anyone who doesnt have a credit card or laon with them (even if they are loyal long term customers with business accounts) and other banks havent even got the application ready yet.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Are you kidding me <a href="https://twitter.com/BankofAmerica?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@BankofAmerica</a> with this requirement of having a credit card to apply for the PPP? What type of scam is this. I have been a loyal customer for years with my business accounts. <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/bankofamerica?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#bankofamerica</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/PPPloan?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#PPPloan</a> <a href="https://t.co/bppThanGSc">pic.twitter.com/bppThanGSc</a></p>— Melissa Perri (@lissijean) <a href="https://twitter.com/lissijean/status/1246075718544560128?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">April 3, 2020</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Bank of American is getting skewered right now. They need some way to fix this or they could be in some serious trouble.

edit: Looks like Chase, Citi, Wells Fargo for sure werent ready when the project launched. At the same time:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Congratulations to <a href="https://twitter.com/SBAgov?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@SBAgov</a> and <a href="https://twitter.com/USTreasury?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@USTreasury</a> teams!! I just got first report on <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/PPPloan?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#PPPloan</a> The system is up and running. Community banks have already processed over 700 loans processed for $2,500,000. Nooo. Are you saying the talking points trotted out by a conservative aren’t working??

There’s nothing else to trot out since they can’t admit this is a mess lead by their party

Re: Business, Economic, and Tax Policy 9: No, No, No, We Compost The Rich

I dont get BofA. First they are the lone holdout of mortgage relief in California...now they are basically screwing over their business account holders. Are they TRYING to crash and burn? Even Wells Fargo isnt this malicious and stupid.
