Seriously surprised by Tkachuk's game. Though his first NHL goal was not the type to save for the highlight reel (the second one was...).

Congrats to him. I for one did not think he was ready.

Agreed, although it's only been 2 games. I'd expect a 19 year-old raw talent who's still growing into his body to have ups/downs over the course of a long season on a rebuilding team. But I hope I keep getting proven wrong when I questioned Tkachuk's decision and readiness for the NHL.

MSU's live stream is PPV. There's a link in today's THFB GameDay post, along with links to all the Free Press preview articles and numerous others. Also a long interview with Albie on Inside BU Hockey.

I might be missing it, but I can't seem to find the link to the Inside BU Hockey podcast. I see where you discuss it, but nothing to click on.

Good catch. I neglected to include the link. It's there now.
Albie said that Crotty was the best player on the ice against Acadia.
Should be interesting to see how he uses the 19th skater.

Is Chad Krys hurt?

Krys has a lower-body injury and didn't make the trip. "Precautionary," according to Albie.

"Our (defensemen) got a little gassed," said BU Head Coach Albie O'Connell. "We had 12 minutes of (killing penalties). They had two. From an energy standpoint, we had to kill penalties. ... We needed to capitalize on a few of those early chances. I think we had three or four 2-on-1s and a breakaway."

Farrabee had a golden opportunity and couldn’t capitalize. Some sloppy play overall. And while I’m not the type of person to blame the loss on refereeing, there were a couple of calls that were hometown calls. Farrance got hauled down behind the net and it becomes coincidental minors with him getting called for holding.

Jordan Greenway and Chase Phelps came to the game, as did Wild GM and former Terrier Paul Fenton. He was sitting next to me at dinner unbeknownst to me. He finally saw my shirt and introduced himself.

That one was a disaster. Horrendous call. Unfortunately no other BU penalty I felt was unjustified. They did miss a bunch on Mankato. Oh well.

What's with the "ole" stuff? Is this the Ryder Cup?

Who knows, it's their thing out here.

I also have on very good authority Jake was *very* ill just before the game tonight after eating dinner. Explains how fundamentally off he looked in the first period.

Hard to assess much just listening to the broadcast, but it sounded like BU was completely dominating the game from the middle of the second period until that mental lapse where they gave up that back-breaker with less than a second to go in the period. Tough to bounce back from that.

Pretty much right. After Mankato dominated the first ~25 minutes. They then did a good job jamming things up in the third and limiting any significant chances. Us taking three bad penalties in the third didn't help. A lot to work on.

Then why did he play? Don’t we have another goalie on the roster?

If anyone bothered to look but the entire Minnesota State lineup had all 21 or 22 year old freshmen.

In the Hastings era, we've had one 18 year-old Freshman, Teddy Blueger, and he was the youngest player on the team FOR HIS FIRST 3 YEARS. Yes, we are the Lowell of the Midwest, but like Lowell, we know the NHL draft picks aren't really coming our way. We do what we have to do.

Apropos of nothing....there are three players named Jake, two players named Shane and two players named Max on the roster. Oh, and two named Patrick.
